  • This paper proposes a new immunotronic approach for the fault detection in hardware. The suggested method is, inspired by biology and its implementation is based on genetic algorithm. Tolerance conditions in the immunotronic system for fault detection correspond to the antibodies in the biological immune system. A novel algorithm of generating tolerance conditions is suggested based on the principle of the antibody diversity and GA optimization is employed to select mature tolerance conditions in immunotronic fault detection system. The suggested method is applied to the fault detection for MCNC benchmark FSMs (finite state machines) and its effectiveness is demonstrated by the computer simulation.

  • Foraging is a biological process, where a bacterium moves to search for nutriments, and avoids harmful substances. This paper proposes a hybrid approach integrating the bacterial foraging optimization algorithm (BFOA) in a radial basis function neural network, applied to image classification, in order to improve the classification rate and the objective function value. At the beginning, the proposed approach is presented and described. Then its performance is studied with an accent on the variation of the number of bacteria in the population, the number of reproduction steps, the number of elimination-dispersal steps and the number of chemotactic steps of bacteria. By using various values of BFOA parameters, and after different tests, it is found that the proposed hybrid approach is very robust and efficient for several-image classification.

  • A new algorithm using a measure for edge detection from ultrasonic image is proposed. Ultrasonic image is blurred by pre-processing for removing speckle noises and precise edge placement is not clear. Because extracted edge from blurred image is thick, a measure utilizing the absolute difference of mean between two windows is used to thin the thickness of extracted edge in blurred image. The algorithm is effective to process blurred image due to the noise filtering that remove speckle noises. Results of the proposed algorithm using a measure show good edge detection performance comparing with other gradient edge operators.

  • Despite the simplicity of processing, a conventional autocorrelation function(ACF) method for the precise determination of fetal heart rate (FHR) has many problems. In case of weak or noise corrupted Doppler ultrasound signal. the ACF method is very sensitive to the threshold level and data window length. It is very troublesome to extract FHR when there is a data loss. To overcome these problems, the high resolution pitch detection algorithm was adopted to estimate the FHR. This method is more accurate, robust and reliable than the ACF method. With a lot of calculation, however, it is impossible to process real time FHR estimation. This paper is presented a new FHR estimation algorithm for real time processing.

  • This paper presents a new matching scheme for creating a single panoramic image from a sequence of partially overlapping images of the same object or scene. This matching scheme is based directly on the searching algorithm, using a multiscale approach to the Hooke-Jeeves algorithm. Matching scheme evaluation was performed using simulated pattern images. The proposed matching scheme reveals good results and could be effectively applied to real ultrasound applications.

  • This paper deals with the recognition algorithm of walking will based on torque estimation. Recently, concern about walking assistant aids is increasing according to the increase in population of elder and handicapped person. However, most of walking aids don't have any actuators for its movement. So, general walking aids have weakness for its movement to upward/download direction of slope. To overcome the weakness of the general walking aids, many researches for active type walking aids are being progressed. Unfortunately it is difficult to control aids during its movement, because it is not easy to recognize user's walking will. Many kinds of methods are proposed to recognize of user's walking will. In this paper, we propose walking will recognition algorithm by using torque estimation from wheels. First, we measure wheel velocity and voltage at the walking aids. From these data, external forces are extracted. And then walking will that is included by walking velocity and direction is estimated. Here, all the processes are verified by simulation and experiment in the real world.

  • This paper describes an algorithm of pattern analysis of ECG signals by significant points extraction method. The significant points can be extracted by modified zerocrossing method, which method determines the real significant point among the significant point candidates by zerocrossing method and slope rate of left side and right side. This modified zerocrossing method improves the accuracy of detection of real slgnficant polnt Position. This Paper also describes the pattern matching algorithm by a hierarchical AND/OR graph of ECG signals. The decomposition of ECG signals by a hierarchical AND/ OR graph can make the pattern matching process easy and fast, Furthermore the pattern matching to the significant points reduces the processing time of ECG analysis.

  • This paper presents a new algorithm for P-wave detection in the ECG signal, we get the peak, onset and offset point by using significant point extraction algorithm with 5-point derivative. To these set of extracted significant points, we apply amplitude and duration threshold criterion. we define the set of significant point meeting the criterion as P-wave candidate. Then P-wave candidate is classified through match-process with template. The template with maximum number or P-wave candidate is selected to be the P-wave.

  • This paper presents a new approach to evaluate reliability indices of electric distribution systems using genetic Algorithm (GA). The use of reliability evaluation is an important aspect of distribution system planning and operation to adjust the reliability level of each area. In this paper, the reliability model is based on the optimal load transforming problem to minimize load generated load point outage in each sub-section. This approach is one of the most difficult procedures and become combination problems. A new approach using GA was developed for this problem. GA is a general purpose optimization technique based on principles inspired from the biological evolution using metaphors of mechanisms such as natural selection, genetic recombination and survival of the fittest. Test results for the model system with 24 nodes 29 branches are reported in the paper.

  • The object detection capabilities of ultrasonic imaging systems are limited by the ability of the detection process to distinguish the resolved object signals from backscattered speckle noise. It has been shown that the phase component of the Fourier transform of the speckle noise is random. Based on this property. we propose a new algorithm for distinguishing between speckle and specular targets. The proposed algorithm is implemented by taking the Fourier transform of the received signal, low-pass filtering the phase, and taking the inverse Fourier transform of the filtered phase to enhance specular reflectors and reduce speckle in the image. Simulations and experiments using phantoms confirm the algorithm yielding significant reduction of speckle noise.
