Biocementation based on the microbially induced calcite precipitation (MICP) process is a novel soil improvement method. Biocement can improve significantly the properties of soils by binding soil particles to increase the shear strength or filling in the pores to reduce the permeability of soil. In this paper, results of triaxial consolidated undrained (CU) tests and constant shear drained (CSD) tests on biocemented Ottawa sand are presented. In the CU tests, the biocemented sand had more dilative behaviour by showing a higher stress-strain curves and faster pore pressure reducing trends as compared with their untreated counterparts. In the CSD tests, the stress ratio q/p' at which biocemented sand became unstable was higher than that for untreated sands, implying that the biocementation will improve the stability of sand to water infiltration or liquefaction.

Calcium silicate hydrate(C-S-H) is the principal binding phase that controls the strength and thermal stability of concrete. However, the effects of high temperature on the lattice structure and interatomic structure of C-S-H remains poorly understood due to its nanocrystallinity. This study aims to elucidate the change in interatomic distance of synthetic C-S-H with different Ca/Si molar ratios after exposure to high temperature via high energy X-ray scattering experiment which is a powerful analytical tool for amorphous materials.
To address inherent weaknesses such as low mechanical strength and limited enzyme loading capacity in conventional chitosan or alginate beads, an additional step involving the exchange of anionic surfactants with hydroxide ions was employed to prepare porous chitosan hydrogel capsules for enzyme immobilization. Consequently, excellent thermal stability and long-term storage stability were confirmed. Furthermore, coating the porous chitosan hydrogel capsules with polydopamine not only improved mechanical stability but also exhibited remarkable enzyme immobilization efficiency (97.6% for M1-D0.5). Additionally, it was demonstrated that the scope of application for chitosan hydrogel beads, prepared using conventional methods, could be further expanded by introducing an additional step of polydopamine coating. The enzyme immobilization matrix developed in this study can be selectively applied to suit specific purposes and is expected to be utilized as a support for the adsorption or covalent binding of various substances.

In reinforced concrete structures, the joints of ordinary rebars are usually lap joints, which are bound by binding wires with rebars, and mechanical joints by couplers. In domestic design standards (concrete design code), welded lap joints are restricted for ordinary rebars, but overseas standards allow welded lap joints of ordinary rebars through pre-heating. This study investigated the domestic and international standards/criteria and evaluated the fracture strength by performing the tensile test on the lap welded joint of SD400 grade rebars, which is used the most in the construction sites. The weld length of the specimen for weld lap joints is based on the minimum weld length (8d) given in the KS standard (KS B ISO 17660-1). According to AWS D1.4, the preheating temperature was set to $150^{\circ}C$ for D19 and below, and $260^{\circ}C$ for D22 and above. In the test results, the tensile strength of rebars with welded lap joints exceeded the required strength (125% of the yield strength) according to the concrete design code. To analyze the effect of preheating, the tensile strength of the welded rebars after preheating was not significantly different from that of the welded rebars without preheating. The carbon equivalent content (Ceq) of the rebars used in the test was 0.45% or less. Under AWS D1.4, no preheating is required if the carbon equivalent is less than 0.45%. All specimens with a welded lap length of 8d failed by a bar fracture. The effect of preheating was confirmed to be insignificant due to the low carbon equivalent of the rebar.
Selective extraction procedure has been used to quantify copper and cadmium In association with the various phases of aquatic sediment such as exchangeable/adsorbed, carbonate, manganese oxides, organic matter and iron oxides. Changes of pH influenced on the partitioning of copper in carbonate and exchangeable/ad- sorbed phases and of cadmium in carbonate phase of aquatic sediment. Addition of NTA and EDTA, copper and cadmium associated with carbonate phase were released from sediment to water. Total partitioning coefficient was 8.361 for copper and 0.497 for cadmium. The relative binding strengths of copper and cadmium to each solid phase can be ranked by using the partitioning coefficints. For copper it was observed that carbonate > organic matter > exchangeable/adsorbed > manganese oxides > iron oxides and for cadmiunm it was observed that exchangeable/adsorbed > carbonate > manganese oxides > organic matter > iron oxides.

At IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force), recently RFC3775, RFC3776 documents about the mobile IPv6 were standardized by IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force). Those specifications propose that during the roaming, the mobile node sends securely the binding update to the home agent and the correspondent node after setting the security association between Mobile Node and Home Agent. But there is no secure bootstrapping method between a mobile node and a home agent at the two RFC documents. This paper proposed a method for the secure bootstrapping between a mobile node and a home agent. This makes the authentication, binding update, home agent assignment, security association distribution through the AAA-based secure channel between mobile node and home agent. And the proposed method was analyzed in the view of the procedure, round trip and security strength.
This study was carried out to investigate the relation between surface acidity and interfacial electrical characteristics of surface-treated ${\gamma}-alumina$ whose surface activity was increased. The points of zero charge (P. Z. C.) of ${\gamma}-alumina$ whose surface is treated with the sulfuric, nitric and hydro-chloric acid of various concentration were measured from the site-binding theory and mass transport method. The surface active sites were measured by amine titration method and Hammett indicator method. The interfacial properties at alumina/KCl(aq) interface were measured by potentiometric titration. From the experimental results, the following results were obtained. Pure ${\gamma}-alumina$ surface acidity decreases with the increase of calcination temperature at strength $H_o{\leq}+9.3$ Surface-treated alumina acidic properties increase with the anion loading on alumina surface. The surface ionization constants decrease with anion loading on alumina surface, then P. Z. C. decreases with acid amount on alumina surface. Acid amount of surface treated alumina can be correlated with surface charge density at strength $H_o{\leq}+4.8$ as follows. $SO_4^2-/Al_2O_3:Q_A=-0.172ln(0.0418{\sigma}+1.448)$$NO_3^-/Al_2O_3:Q_A=-0.024{\sigma}-0.0189$$Cl^-/Al_2O_3:Q_A=-0.01{\sigma}-0.2006$.
In order to fraclionate ${\alpha}$-, ${\beta}$- and ${\gamma}$-cyclodextrins(CDs) from CD reaction mixture, various CD adsorbents were manufactured using fatty acids as the ligand molecules and anion exchange resins as matrix. Among several anion exchange resins, DEAE Cellulose was found to be the most suitable matrix for binding fatty acid. The binding stability between DEAE Cellulose and capric acid was tested under the various operation conditions, such as temperature, ethanol concentration, and ionic strength. Specific CD adsorbents manufactured with different chain-length fatty acids, saturated and unsaturated, were compared in terms of the recovery yield and selectivity of ${\alpha}$-, ${\beta}$- and ${\gamma}$-CDs. Stearic acid (C18, saturated) was identified as the most effective ligand for fractionation of ${\alpha}$-CD, and linoleic acid ((C18, unsaturated ) for ${\beta}$-CD. The spacer length between the matrix and ligand was required for effective adsorption of CDs, and the double bond in fatty acid molecules was also acted as an important factor determining recovery yield and selectivity. The elusion patterns of ${\alpha}$- and ${\alpha}$-, ${\beta}$-CD from column packed with stearic acid and linoleic acid CD adsorbents were also investigated at the various elusion conditions for fractionation of ${\alpha}$- and ${\beta}$-CD.
Porous chitosan and chitin membranes were prepared by using silica particles as porogen. Membrane preparation was achieved via the following three steps: (1) chitosan film formation by casting an chitosan solution containing silica particles, (2) preparation of porous chitosan membrane by dissolving the silica particles by immersing the film into an alkaline solution and (3) preparation of porous chitin membrane by acetylation of chitosan membrane with acetic anhydride. The optimum preparation conditions which could provide a chitosan and chitin membranes with good mechanical strength and adequate pure water flux were determined. To allow protein affinity, a reactive dye (Cibacron Blue 3GA) was immobilized on porous chitosan membrane. Binding capacities of affinity chitosan and chitin membranes for protein and enzyme were determined by the batch adsorption experiments of BSA protein and lysozyme enzyme. The maximum binding capacity of affinity chitosan membrane for BSA protein is about 22 mg/mL, and that of affinity chitin membrane for lysozyme enzyme is about 26 mg/mL. Those binding capacities are about $several{\sim}several$ tens times larger than those of chitosan and chitin-based hydrogel beads. Those results suggest that the porous chitosan and chitin membranes are suitable in affinity filtration chromatography for large scale separation of proteins.
The thermal bonding PET fabrics were produced through high temperature steaming (HTS) of low melting PET yarn as warp and composite fancy yarn containing low melting PET yarn as weft. The low melting PET yarn of sheath-core structure consisted of a regular PET in core portion and low melting PET in sheath portion. The composite fancy yarn consisted of regular PET yarn as inner part and effect part and low melting PET yarn as binding part. This study was carried out to investigate the melting behavior of thermal bonded PET fabric, the effect of HTS on the thermal bonding, mechanical properties, and dyeing properties. The melting peak of low melting PET yarn showed two melting peaks caused by sheath-core structure. Almost the entire thermal bonding of the fancy PET fabrics containing low melting PET yarn has formed at $200^{\circ}C{\times}3min$ of HTS. The tensile strength in warp and weft direction of the fancy PET fabrics slightly decreased as temperature of HTS increased. The total K/S value of the fancy PET fabrics decreased slightly to $180^{\circ}C{\times}3min$ of HTS, while increased slightly above $200^{\circ}C{\times}3min$ of HTS. The changes in the hue angle ($H^{\circ}$) of the thermal bonded fancy PET fabrics dyed with disperse dyes hardly ever happened.
