  • We propose a method of the efficient injection of the MPEG-4 data into MPEG-2 A/V stream. The proposed method is to transmit MPEG-4 data synchronized with MPEG-2 A/V stream using MPEG-2 Transport Stream Protocol so that the user can decode MPEG-4 data on time at the client side, after extracting IOD (Initia1 Object Descriptor), OD (Object Descriptor), BIFS (Binary Format for Scone) and media data from mp4 file.

  • Multi-disk data allocation problem examined in this paper is to find a method to distribute a Binary Cartesian Product File on multiple disks to maximize parallel disk I/O accesses for partial match retrieval. This problem is known to be NP-hard, and heuristkc approaches have been applied to obtain sub-optimal solutions. Recently, efficient methods have been proposed with a restriction that the number of disks in which files are stored should be power of 2. In this paper, we propose a new disk Allocation method based on Genetic Algorithm(GA) to remove the restriction on the number of disks to be applied. Using the schema theory, we prove that our method can find a near-optimal solutionwith high probability. We compare the quality of solution derived by our method with General Disk Modulo, Binary Disk Modulo, and Error Correcting Code methods through the simulation. The simulation results show that proposed GA is superior to GDM method in all cases and provides comparable performance to the BDM method which has a restriction on the number of disks.

  • Multi-media service has been changed into user based audio services, which service supports actively user's preference and interaction with the users. In the market, multi-media products which can support the highest audio-quality by using lossless audio technology have been released and object audio music which user can select the objects has been serviced. In this paper, we design user's preference information based object audio file format and audio scene description for storage and transmission media. The designed file format is designed based on MPEG-4 file format because high-quality audio codecs in MPEG-4 audio can be easily used and the track of file format can be flexibly controlled depend on the number of the instrument in music. The encoded audio data of each objects and encoded audio scene description by binary encoding that has independent track are packed in a file. The scene description for storage media is consist of full and object scene description, the scene description for transmission media has an essential description for object audio operation and a specific description for real audio sound. The designed file format based simulator is developed and it generates an object audio file with several scene descriptions. Also, the real audio sound is serviced by the interaction with user and the unpacked scene description.

  • Data is represented by file structure in Computer System. But the file size is to be larger, it is hard to control and transmit. Therefore, in recent years, many researchers have developed new algorithms for the data compression. And now, we introduce a new Dynamic Compression Technique, making up for the weaknesses of huffman's. The huffman compression technique has two weaknesses. The first, it needs two steps of reading, one for acquiring character frequency and the other for real compression. The second, low compression rate caused by storing tree information. These weaknesses can be solved by our new Dynamic Relocatable Method, reducing the reading pass by relocating data file to dynamic form, and then storing tree information from pipeline structure. • This paper presents a parallel genetic algorithm for the Multi-disk data allocation problem an NP-complete problem. This problem is to find a method to distribute a Binary Cartesian Product File on disk-arrays to maximize parallel disk I/O accesses. A Sequential Genetic Algorithm(SGA), DAGA, has been proposed and showed the superiority to the other proposed methods, but it has been observed that DAGA consumes considerably lengthy simulation time. In this paper, a parallel version of DAGA(ParaDAGA) is proposed. The ParaDAGA is a 2-dimension torus-based Parallel Genetic Algorithm(PGA) and it is based on a distributed population structure. The ParaDAGA has been implemented on the parallel computer simulated on a single processor platform. Through the simulation, we study the impact of varying ParaDAGA parameters and compare the quality of solution derived by ParaDAGA and DAGA. Comparing the quality of solutions, ParaDAGA is superior to DAGA in all cases of configurations in less simulation time.

  • In a pervasive environment, there are various applications as much as connections of various devices. In this computing environment, XML is the most suitable data representation method. XML is able to transform data for other application areas using XSLT. XML is text-based, the file size of XML document is bigger than binary data file. Therefore, XML has a disadvantage that it is hard to deal with XML in a pervasive environment. In this paper, we survey encoding methods of XML documents, and then we propose a transform method that transforms an encoded EXI format XML document into an EXI format XML document suited for other applications. Among various applications, we present a system that transforms an EXI format XHTML document into an VoiceXML document. This system can improve reusability of EXI format XML documents in a pervasive environment and it is expected to contributes utilization of EXI format XML documents.

  • In this paper, we propose a fast booting solution with embedded linux-based smart devices. We have divided the fast boot process into six steps, such as boot loader, kernel, file system, the init-scripts, shared libraries, and applications for an embedded linux-based boot process to improve the fast booting. Improvements for the fast boot are made in the boot loader phase, which is the first phase at power-up, and the init-script that runs the boot loader phase. To improve the fast booting, standby time from the boot loader and unnecessary initialization routine have been removed, and uncompressed kernel image loading as well as optimized copy routine have been applied. Further, a technology that replaces binary scripts in init-script phase and light-weight init process have been utilized to improve the boot.
