  • This paper presents a speed and position sensorless control of permanent magnet synchronous motors using an integral binary observer. In order to improve the steady state performance of the binary observer, the binary observer is formed by adding extra integral dynamics to the switching hyperplane equation. The observer structure and its deign method are described. The experimetntal results of the proposed algorithm are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach.

  • In this paper, a binary disturbance observer is implemented, and the validity is verified by experiments. A disturbance observer with binary control is proposed to suppress the chattering of the conventional sliding mode observer in estimation of the external disturbance. As a result of experiments, it is confirmed that the robust and high precision position control is possible by the proposed binary observer.

  • This paper presents a sensorless speed control of cylindrical permanent magnet synchronous motors(PMSM) using an adaptive integral binary observer In view of composition with a main loop regulator and an auxiliary loop regulator, the binary observer has a property of the chattering alleviation in the constant boundary layer. However, the steady state estimation accuracy and robustness are dependent upon the width of the constant boundary. In order to improve the steady state performance of the binary observer, the binary observer is formed by adding extra integral dynamics to the switching hyperplane equation. With the help of integral characteristic, the rotor speed can be finely estimated and utilized for a sensorless speed controller for PMSM. Since the Parameters of the dynamic equations such as machine inertia or a viscosity friction coefficient are lot well known, there are many restrictions in the actual implementation. The proposed adaptive integral binary observer applies an adaptive scheme so that observer may overcome the problem caused by using the dynamic equations and the rotor speed is constructed by using the Lyapunov function. The observer structure and its design method are described. The experimental results of the proposed algorithm are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach.

Influence of granite waste aggregate on properties of binary blend self-compacting concrete

  • This study explores the feasibility of granite waste aggregate (GWA) as a partial replacement of natural fine aggregate (NFA) in binary blend self-compacting concrete (SCC) prepared with fly ash. Total of nine SCC mixtures were prepared wherein one was Ordinary Portland cement (OPC) based control SCC mixture and remaining were fly ash based binary blend SCC mixtures which included the various percentages of GWA. Fresh properties tests such as slump flow, T500, V-funnel, J-ring, L-box, U-box, segregation resistance, bleeding, fresh density, and loss of slump flow (with time) were conducted. Compressive strength and percentage of permeable voids were evaluated in the hardened state. All the SCC mixtures exhibited sufficient flowability, passing ability, and resistance to segregation. Besides, all the binary blend SCC mixtures exhibited lower fresh density and bleeding, and better residual slump (up to 50% of GWA) compared to the OPC based control SCC mixture. Binary blend SCC mixture incorporating up to 40% GWA provided higher compressive strength than binary blend control SCC mixture. The findings of this study encourage the utilization of GWA in the development of binary blend SCC mixtures with satisfactory workability characteristics as a replacement of NFA.

  • Binary CDMA는 음성 영상 등의 멀티미디어 데이터를 초고속으로 우수한 전송품질로 통신할 수 있는 우리나라가 개발한 새로운 표준 무선통신 기술이다. 본 논문에서는 전화선의 설치나 매설 작업 없이 원하는 장소에 자유롭게 설치할 수 있는 Binary CDMA 기반의 무선 VoIP 시스템 개발을 위한 개발방법 및 구현에 관해 연구하였다. Binary-CDMA VoIP 시스템의 구조를 설계하고, 호제어를 위한 메세지와 자료구조의 정의한 후, 사용자간 통화를 위한 착발신 단말 간의 호제어 메세지 흐름을 설계하고 구현하였다.

  • Variable structure control (VSC) can be used for the control of power plants required stability and robustness such as elevator control. It has no overshoot and is insensitive to parameter variations and disturbances in the sliding mode where the system structure is changed with the sliding surface in the center. But in the real system, VSC has a high frequency chattering which has a bad influence upon the control system proformances. In this paper, to alleviate the high frequency chattering, a binary controller (BC) with inertial type external loop is implemented by DSP and applied to position control of brushless DC motor. Binary controller has external loop to generate the continuous control input with the flexible variation of primary loop gain. Thus it has the property of chattering alleviation in addition to advantages of the conventional variable structure control.

  • Brushless DC(BLDC) motor have been increasingly used in machine tools and robotics applications due to the reliability and the efficiency. In control of BLDC motor, it is important to construct the controller which is robust to parameter variations and external disturbances. Variable structure controller(VSC) has been known as a powerful tool in robust control of time varying systems. In practical systems, however, VSC has a high frequency chattering which deteriorates system performances. In this paper, a binary controller(BC) which takes the form of VSC and MRAC combined is presented to solve this problem. BC consists of the primary loop controller and the external loop controller to change the gain of primary loop controller smoothly. So it can generate the continuous control input and is insensitive to parameter variations in the given domain. To confirm the validity, various investigations of control characteristics for various design parameters in a position control system of BLDC motor are carried out.   • In recent year, as the robot technology is developed, the researches on the artificial muscle actuator that enables robot to move dexterously like biological organ become active. Actuators are key technologies underpinning robotics. Breakthroughs in actuator technology, particular in terms of power-to-weight ratio, or energy-density, will have significant impacts upon the design and control of robotic system. In this paper, a new approach to design and control of shape memory alloy(SMA) actuator is presented to drive the robot hand. SMA wire is divided into many segments and their thermal states of the SMA are controlled individually in a binary manner. This control manner will reduce the hysteresis that the SMA material has and it becomes the fundamental technology to develop the anthropomorphic robot hand. In this paper, the mechanism In the digital step motor of the shape memory alloy that is driven by the segmented binary control, which is a new control technique, is studied. This SMA digital step actuator applies for the robot hand and the driving mechanism of the robot hand is investigated.

Vision-Based Roadway Sign Recognition

  • In this paper, a vision-based roadway detection algorithm for an automated vehicle control system, based on roadway sign information on roads, is proposed. First, in order to detect roadway signs, the color scene image is enhanced under hue-invariance. Fuzzy logic is employed to simplify the enhanced color image into a binary image and the binary image is morphologically filtered. Then, an effective algorithm of locating signs based on binary rank order transform (BROT) is utilized to extract signs from the image. This algorithm performs better than those previously presented. Finally, the inner shapes of roadway signs with curving roadway direction information are recognized by neural networks. Experimental results show that the new detection algorithm is simple and robust, and performs well on real sign detection. The results also show that the neural networks used can exactly recognize the inner shapes of signs even for very noisy shapes.

  • A new method for generation of binary random sequences, called random sampling method, has been proposed by the authors. However, the random sampling method has the defect that binary random sequence can not be rapidly generated. In this paper, two methods based on the random sampling method are proposed for fast generation of binary random sequences. The optimum conditions for obtaining ideal binary random sequences are derived.
