Rapid development of geophysical exploration and hydrogeologic monitoring techniques has yielded remarkable increase of datasets related to groundwater systems. Increased number of datasets contribute to understanding of general aquifer characteristics such as groundwater yield and flow, but understanding of complex heterogenous aquifers system is still a challenging task. Recently, applications of data science technique have become popular in the fields of geophysical explorations and monitoring, and such attempts are also extended in the groundwater field. This work reviewed current status and advancement in utilization of data science in groundwater field. The application of data science techniques facilitates effective and realistic analyses of aquifer system, and allows accurate prediction of aquifer system change in response to extreme climate events. Due to such benefits, data science techniques have become an effective tool to establish more sustainable groundwater management systems. It is expected that the techniques will further strengthen the theoretical framework in groundwater management to cope with upcoming challenges and limitations.
Gastric cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. In advanced and metastatic gastric cancer, the conventional chemotherapy with limited efficacy shows an overall survival period of about 10 months. Patient specific and effective treatments known as personalized cancer therapy is of significant importance. Advances in high-throughput technologies such as microarray and next generation sequencing for genes, protein expression profiles and oncogenic signaling pathways have reinforced the discovery of treatment targets and personalized treatments. However, there are numerous challenges from cancer target discoveries to practical clinical benefits. Although there is a flood of biomarkers and target agents, only a minority of patients are tested and treated accordingly. Numerous molecular target agents have been under investigation for gastric cancer. Currently, targets for gastric cancer include the epidermal growth factor receptor family, mesenchymal-epithelial transition factor axis, and the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase-AKT-mammalian target of rapamycin pathways. Deeper insights of molecular characteristics for gastric cancer has enabled the molecular classification of gastric cancer, the diagnosis of gastric cancer, the prediction of prognosis, the recognition of gastric cancer driver genes, and the discovery of potential therapeutic targets. Not only have we deeper insights for the molecular diversity of gastric cancer, but we have also prospected both affirmative potentials and hurdles to molecular diagnostics. New paradigm of transdisciplinary team science, which is composed of innovative explorations and clinical investigations of oncologists, geneticists, pathologists, biologists, and bio-informaticians, is mandatory to recognize personalized target therapy.

Many construction projects involve a plethora of safety-related problems that can cause loss of productivity, diminished revenue, time overruns, and legal challenges. Incorporating data collection and analytics methods can help overcome the root causes of many such problems. However, in a dynamic construction workplace collecting data from a large number of resources is not a trivial task and can be costly, while many contractors lack the motivation to incorporate technology in their activities. In this research, an Android-based mobile application, Preemptive Construction Site Safety (PCS2) is developed and tested for real-time location tracking, trajectory prediction, and prevention of potential collisions between workers and site hazards. PCS2 uses ubiquitous mobile technology (smartphones) for positional data collection, and a robust trajectory prediction technique that couples hidden Markov model (HMM) with risk-taking behavior modeling. The effectiveness of PCS2 is evaluated in field experiments where impending collisions are predicted and safety alerts are generated with enough lead time for the user. With further improvement in interface design and underlying mathematical models, PCS2 will have practical benefits in large scale multi-agent construction worksites by significantly reducing the likelihood of proximity-related accidents between workers and equipment.
This review article addresses the role of safety professionals in the diffusion strategies for predictive analytics for safety performance. The article explores the models, definitions, roles, and relationships of safety professionals in knowledge application, access, management, and leadership in safety analytics. The article addresses challenges safety professionals face when integrating safety analytics in organizational settings in four operations areas: application, technology, management, and strategy. A review of existing conventional safety data sources (safety data, internal data, external data, and context data) is briefly summarized as a baseline. For each of these data sources, the article points out how emerging analytic data sources (such as Industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things) broaden and challenge the scope of work and operational roles throughout an organization. In doing so, the article defines four perspectives on the integration of predictive analytics into organizational safety practice: the programmatic perspective, the technological perspective, the sociocultural perspective, and knowledge-organization perspective. The article posits a four-level, organizational knowledge-skills-abilities matrix for analytics integration, indicating key organizational capacities needed for each area. The work shows the benefits of organizational alignment, clear stakeholder categorization, and the ability to predict future safety performance.
Selective accumulation of a photosensitizer and the subsequent response in only the light-irradiated target are advantages of photodynamic diagnosis and therapy. The limited depth of the therapeutic effect is a positive characteristic when treating surface malignancies, such as peritoneal carcinomatosis. For photodynamic diagnosis (PDD), adjunctive use of aminolevulinic acid- protoporphyrin IX-guided fluorescence imaging detects cancer nodules, which would have been missed during assessment using white light visualization only. Furthermore, since few side effects have been reported, this has the potential to become a vital component of diagnostic laparoscopy. A variety of photosensitizers have been examined for photodynamic therapy (PDT), and treatment protocols are heterogeneous in terms of photosensitizer type and dose, photosensitizer-light time interval, and light source wavelength, dose, and dose rate. Although several studies have suggested that PDT has favorable effects in peritoneal carcinomatosis, clinical trials in more homogenous patient groups are required to identify the true benefits. In addition, major complications, such as bowel perforation and capillary leak syndrome, need to be reduced. In the long term, PDD and PDT are likely to be successful therapeutic options for patients with peritoneal carcinomatosis, with several options to optimize the photosensitizer and light delivery parameters to improve safety and efficacy.

Project management and deployment has gone through a long journey from traditional and agile to continuous integration, continuous deployment and continuous monitoring. Software industry benefited with the latest buzzword in the development process, DevOps that not only escalates software productivity but at the same time enhances software quality. But the implementation and assessment of DevOps practices is expository as there are no guidelines to assess and improvise DevOps application in software industries. Hence, there was a need to develop a hybrid model to assist software practitioners in DevOps implementation. The intention behind this paper is to implement the already proposed DevOps hybrid model using suggested tool chains including Jenkins, Selenium, GitLab, Ansible and Nagios automation tools through Jenkins project management environment and plugins. To achieve this implementation objective, a java application is developed with a web-based graphical interface. Further, in this paper, different challenges and benefits of Jenkins implementation shall also be outlined. The paper also presents the effectiveness of DevOps based Model implementation in software organizations. The impact of considering other automation tools and models can also be considered as a part of further research.
This paper reports a case study of SevenBräu, the first company to acquire a license for small and medium scale beer manufacturing in Korea. This study explores how SevenBräu analyzed its consumers, competition, and environment to set its target market and successfully positioned itself to explore new markets in Korea. The company accomplished this through a mixture of marketing strategies with differentiated products and consumer benefits. SevenBräu has been growing fast and establishing its image as a "high-quality craft beer locally produced in a traditional way" and a "beer with regional characteristics," with young consumers (aged 20 to 35) as the main target. Such remarkable growth of SevenBräu can be attributed to factors such as: (1) product differentiation to satisfy the needs of consumers for taste, flavor, diversity, and freshness, (2) developing brands with regional characteristics and actively communicating its strategy through earned and owned media, and (3) sustainable management, considering both social value creation and environmental performance. Lastly, this case study presents challenges in the areas of brand management, value delivery network, and communication that SevenBräu needs to address in the beer market that faces increasing competition.

Knotworking represents a distributed collaborative expertise in pursuit of a task that is organized among designers from different design disciplines. Construction processes involve phases and tasks that cannot be solved in one organization only, as integration of expert knowledge from various sources is needed. Through knotworking, groups of people, tasks and tools are set to work intensively for a short period of time to solve a problem or accomplish a task. Knotworking requires intensive collaboration across organizational boundaries and hierarchies. The practice of knotworking has been developed and applied in the development of healthcare organizations, libraries and school-university relationships, but it has not previously been applied in the construction industry. In this paper, we describe the concept of knotworking and the findings of a case study that we completed in the Finnish construction industry. We will also compare the similarities and differences of the Big Room and knotworking in terms of participants, duration, target, space/infrastructure, benefits and challenges. Finally, we present some suggestions for further research and experimentation on knotworking in construction projects.
Purpose: The study attempts to explore the operational performance of the existing Malaysian logistics companies and the extent of their adoption of digitalization. The role of digitalization in enhancing the performance of companies in the logistics industry in Malaysia, for value creation, is the topic of study. Research design, data and methodology: A qualitative research method with a semi-structured interview approach was applied and judgmental sampling was used as the sampling technique to collect data. The research has chosen nine companies in the logistics industry in Peninsular Malaysia, with the interviews aimed at eleven members of top and middle-level management. Data analysis was performed using logical system techniques to examine and evaluate data, reorganizing feedback, comparing it with literature, and transforming it into structured, valuable information after interviews. Results: The study revealed mixed opinions on digitalization in logistics, despite its potential benefits such as improved operational efficiency, real-time information, and customer service. However, high costs may hinder financial performance and require revisions due to stakeholder involvement. Conclusions: The Malaysian logistics industry's adoption of digitalization is gaining traction, with most companies satisfied with their status. However, challenges like cost and inefficiency persist, prompting calls for government support to improve efficiency and reduce costs while ensuring sustainable transportation.
Postharvest diseases cause considerable losses to harvested fruits and vegetables worldwide. Fresh produce suspected of harboring postharvest disease must be treated to control any pathogens present. Although there are various treatments to control postharvest losses by pathogens, the current community is eager to take safer and more eco-friendly alternatives to help with human health and reduce environmental risks. Ionizing irradiation is a promising phytosanitary treatment that has a significant potential to control postharvest diseases in use worldwide. Although almost 19000 metric tons of sweet potatoes and various fruits are irradiated each year in six countries to control postharvest disease, irradiation continues to be a debate, with slow acceptance by industries. Irradiation alone is not effective as a fungicide, and an over dose affects the physical properties of irradiated products. A combination of irradiation with other treatments such as heating, biocontrol agents, chlorination, and nano Ag particles is to enhance their effectiveness. Challenges to the use of phytosanitary irradiation are an avoidance of irradiated postharvest and cost of the irradiation facilities, and thus consumers still need to be educated on the principles and benefits of irradiation and prepare an optimum economy of scale for commercial use. In this review, we evaluated the current phytosanitary irradiation, and combination with various other treatments to minimize the postharvest losses.
