  • To measure springback ratio of thin sheet or plate, winding bend rig is made. It bends a specimen with keeping its curvature constant and measures the bending angles before and after release of bending load. To check the performance of the bend rig, we calculated the bending moment by two ways which are based on simple beam theory. One is that the bending moment is calculated by using the results of bending test, and the other is that the moment is calculated by using the results of tensile tests. The former may entails the effect of the friction between bending pin of the rig and the surface of specimen, but the latter does not contain any effects of the friction since the bending moment is obtained by using tensile tests. Nevertheless, the values of the two bending moment shows the same level of bending moment, which implies that the friction does not influence on the value of springback ratio in spite of the presence of friction within the cope of the test performed in this experiment.

  • The joints of the new prefabricated concrete assemble beam-column joints are put together by the hybrid joints of inserting steel under post-tensioned and non-prestressed force and both beams and columns adopt prefabricated components. The low cyclic loading test has been performed on seven test specimens of beam-column joints. Based on the experimental result, the rotation capacity of the joints is studied and the $M-{\theta}$ relation curve is obtained. According to Eurocode 3: Design of steel structures and based on the initial rotational stiffness, the joints are divided into three types; by equivalent bending-resistant stiffness to the precast beam, the equivalent modulus of elasticity $E_e$ is elicited with the superposition method; the beam length is figured out that satisfies the rigid joints and after meeting the requirements of application and safety, the new prefabricated concrete assemble beam-column joints can be regarded as the rigid joints; the design formula adopted by the standard of concrete joint classification is theoretically derived, thereby providing a theoretical basis for the new prefabricated concrete structure.

  • Over the past few decades various experimental and theoretical investigations have been performed on offshore tubular members with regard to damage resistance and residual strength. Analysis of damaged tubular members requires a three-dimensional shell analysis for accurate results. Even though various commercial packages are available for this purpose, a beam-column analysis is preferred for offshore structural designs. In this paper, empirical equations are provided for a more accurate beam-column analysis of damaged tubes including the relationships between the lateral denting load and the depth of the dent, the rate of dent deepening due to increasing curvature and the longitudinal variation in the dent depth of damaged tubes. A design equation to predict the ultimate bending capacities of damaged offshore tubular members is also presented.

  • In this research, experimental tensile test and manufacturing of carbon nanotube reinforced composite beam (CNTRC) is presented. Also, bending, buckling, and vibration analysis of CNTRC based on various beam theories such as Euler-Bernoulli, Timoshenko and Reddy beams are considered. At first, the experimental tensile tests are carried out for CNTRC and composite beams in order to obtain mechanical properties and then using Hamilton's principle the governing equations of motion are derived for Euler Bernoulli, Timoshenko and Reddy theories. The results have a good agreement with the obtained results by similar researches and it is shown that adding just two percent of carbon nanotubes increases dimensionless fundamental frequency and critical buckling load as well as decreases transverse deflection of composite beams. Also, the influences of different manufacturing processes such as hand layup and industrial methods using vacuum pump on composite properties are investigated. In these composite beams, glass fibers used in an epoxy matrix and for producing CNTRC, CNTs are applied as reinforcement particles. Applying two percent of CNTs leads to increase the mechanical properties and increases natural frequencies and critical buckling load and decreases deflection. The obtained natural frequencies and critical buckling load by theoretical method are higher than other methods, because there are some inevitable errors in industrial and hand layup method. Also, the minimum deflection occurs for theoretical methods, in bending analysis. In this study, Young's and shear modulli as well as density are obtained by experimental test and have not been used from the results of other researches. Then the theoretical analysis such as bending, buckling and vibration are considered by using the obtained mechanical properties of this research.

  • Based on the random cracking theory, the cylinder RVE model of reinforced concrete is established and the damage process is divided into three stages as the evolution of the cracks. The stress distribution along longitude direction of the concrete and the steel bar in the cylinder model are derived. The equivalent elastic modulus of the RVE are derived and the user-defined field variable subroutine (USDFLD) for the equivalent elastic modulus is well integrated into the ABAQUS. Regarding the tensile rebars and the concrete surrounding the rebars as the equivalent homogeneous transversely isotropic material, and the FEM analysis for the reinforced concrete beams is conducted with the USDFLD subroutine. Considering the concrete cracking and interfacial debonding, the macroscopic damage process of the reinforced concrete beam under four-point bending loading in the simulation. The volume fraction of rebar and the cracking degree are mainly discussed to reveal their influence on the macro-performance and they are calibrated with experimental results. Comparing with the bending experiment performed with 8 reinforced concrete beams, the bending stiffness of the second stage and the ultimate load simulated are in good agreement with the experimental values, which verifies the effectiveness and the accuracy of the improved finite element method for reinforced concrete beam.

  • This paper presents shear deformation characteristics in reinforced concrete beams. Based on the relationship between shear and bending moment in beams subjected to combined shear and bending, the behavior of a beam is explicitly divided into two base components of the flexural action and the tied arch action. Transverse elongation of the web and deflections are calculated from shear compatibility condition in a beam and compared with test results.

  • A concrete-filled circular steel tube beam was fabricated, and a bending test was performed to analyze its failure modes, displacement ductility, bending-shear strength, and load-central deflection relationship. For the bending test, the installation position of the shape memory alloy (SMA) inside and outside the double-skin steel tube was used, and the rebar installation position, the concrete strength, the mixing of fibers, and the inner-outer diameter ratio as the main parameters. The test results showed that the installation positions of the reinforcements inside and outside the double-skin steel tube and the inner-outer diameter ratio of the steel tube affected the ductility, maximum load, and failure mode. In general, the specimen made of general concrete with SMA installed outside and inside (OI) the double-skin steel tube showed the best results.

  • In this study, the deflection and deformation behaviours of IPN80 steel beam and column were investigated under the different industrial loads. Single-sided welds were applied to IPN80 steel beams using shielded metal arc (SMAW) and metal inert gas welding (MIG) method in the form of T-type. After that, the performance of SMAW and MIG welded joints were identified using beam bending test under 500 and 3000 N loads. SMAW and MIG methods were compared with each other to understand the deflection and deformation behaviours of the welded steel structures. Lower deformation and deflection were obtained in MIG welded steel beams. The results show that, steel beams welded MIG method has higher load capacity than SMAW welded ones. MIG welding method is more reliable than the SMAW method for the combining performance and load capacity.

This phenomenon is explained theoretically by using moment equilibrium.
