  • This research examined the technical feasibility of composite that had 2- and 3- layers of fiberglass reinforcement to enhance the load carrying capacity of particleboard. Specimens were prepared from commercial particleboard. Results indicated that bending properties, hardness and impact bending energy increased as the number of layers of fiberglass reinforcement increased. The wood screw withdrawal load only decreased at the 3-layer of fiberglass reinforcement. The technique developed by this study may increase an opportunity to use particleboard for structural purposes.

  • A numerical method for perdicting the behavior of a reinforced concrete column under biaxial loading is proposed, using the layered finite element method. Concrete is assumed to exhibit strain softening and steel reinforcement is elastic-plastic. The bending theory assumptions are used and bond slip of reinforcement is meglected. To perdict the entire load-deformation characteristics, displacement control method is used. This method consider not only combined effect due to axial load and bending moment but also that due to bending moments. Predicted behaviors of reinforced concrete columns under biaxial loading through the numerical method proposed in this study show good agreements with test results.

  • The collapses of curved bridges are mainly caused by the damaged columns, subjected to the combined loadings of axial load, shear force, flexural moment and torsional moment, under earthquakes. However, these combined loadings have not been fully investigated. This paper firstly investigated the mechanical characteristics of the bending-torsion coupling effects, based on the seismic response spectrum analysis of 24 curved bridge models. And then 9 reinforced concrete (RC) and circular column specimens were tested, by changing the bending-tortion ratio (M/T), axial compression ratio, longitudinal reinforcement ratio and spiral reinforcement ratio, respectively. The results show that the bending-torsion coupling effects of piers are more significant, along with the decrease of girder curvature and the increase of pier height. The M/T ratio ranges from 6 to 15 for common cases, and influences the crack distribution, plastic zone and hysteretic curve of piers. And these seismic characteristics are also influenced by the compression ratio, longitudinal reinforcement ratio and spiral reinforcement ratios of piers.

  • In general, RC beam members are designed as flexural members, considering only the bending load. However, in actual buildings, axial and bending load are simultaneously applied due to the continuity between members. As a result, the bending strength of the RC beam member increases, but the displacement decreases, and cracks are mainly concentrated in the center of the beam. Therefore, in this study, the bending performance of both normal and strengthened RC beam using carbon fiber sheets subjected to combined axial and bending load was experimentally evaluated. The carbon fiber sheets were wrapped around the middle of the specimens, and axial and bending load were applied simultaneously to the beams. The magnitude of the axial force and the effects of carbon fiber sheet reinforcement on the deformed shape, bending strength, deflection, and ductility of the RC beams were analyzed. The results show that as the applied axial force increased, the maximum bending strength increased, but the ductility decreased 64%. The bending strength of the strengthened beams increased up to 27%, the maximum deflection decreased around 8% and the ductility increased by up to 43%.

  • A slab examined by this study is the half precast concrete(PC) slab with the truss-reinforcement. There are many studies on the composite slab, but the study on the half precast concrete(PC) slab is little. Especially, the study on a structural performance of the half PC slab according to the height of the truss-reinforcement is extremely little. Therefore, in this research, three kinds of slabs with different height of the truss-reinforcement were made, and the bending test was conducted to research a structural performance.

  • Concrete infill and reinforcement are one of the most well-known strengthening methods of structural elements. This study investigated flexural performance of concrete infill composite PHC pile (ICP pile) reinforced by infill concrete and longitudinal rebars in hollow PHC pile. A total four series of pile specimens were tested by four points bending method under simply supported conditions and investigated bending moment experimentally and analytically. From the test results, it was found that although reinforcement of infilled concrete on the pure bending moment of PHC pile was negligible, reinforcement of PHC pile using infilled concrete and longitudinal rebars increase the maximum bending moment with range from 1.95 to 2.31 times than that of conventional PHC pile. The error of bending moment between experimental results and predicted results by nonlinear sectional analysis on the basis of the conventional layered sectional approach was in the range of -2.54 % to 2.80 %. The axial compression and moment interaction analysis for ICP piles shows more significant strengthening effects of infilled concrete and longitudinal rebars.

  • The $I_c$ degradation behaviors of externally-reinforced Bi-2223 superconducting tapes under pressurized liquid nitrogen were investigated. Tapes with different thickness of reinforcement layers were compared and the results showed that when the bending strain was calculated at the outer surface, the tape with the thicker reinforcement showed a better bending strain tolerance of $I_c$, but when the bending strain was calculated at the outermost filament, the $I_c$ degradation behavior became identical for all tapes. $I_{c0}$ decreased with the increase of applied pressure. After depressurization to atmospheric pressure from 1 MPa, the $I_c$ was completely recovered to its initial values. Ballooning occurred after a thermal cycle.

  • It analyzed the reinforcement effect according to reinforced period for FREP. It found that reinforcement effect of P-Type that was reinforced during the usage decreased compared to I-Type that was reinforced before the usage. So when reinforcing a existing structure that is being used, it should consider the stress that is produced due to the fixed load. It evaluated bending and shear of RC reinforcing beam based on the test and analytical conditions of this study. It found that stress concentration was concentrated due to rapid change of bending rigidity in reinforced cutting part as a result of excessive reinforcement thickness of FREP. It resulted in rip-off failure. It means that it should evaluate the shear when designing reinforcement.

  • The importance for the department combined is increased concerning structures and pile foundation with the introduction of structures in sesmic design of structures. Therefore, the railway bridge and the road bridge standards approach for the earthquake about above the department combined by using strong coupling. Also, mechanical interpretation is performed as foundation combined with the head of pile foundation assuming the pillars. Accordingly, this study suggests the head of PHC repair can enhance the load carrying capacity and constructability of the department combined after bending, pulling, shear and compressive tests by appling the reinforcement of bending the rebar, the reinforcement of pulling the rebar.

  • In this study, specimens were made with profile thicknesses and shear reinforcement as parameters. The bending and shear behavior were checked, and comparative analysis was conducted of the results and the theoretical values in order to see the applicability of T-section Modular Composite Profiled Beams (TMPB). In TMPB, the profiles of formwork functions play a structural role resisting the load. Also, the module concept, which is introduced into TMPB, has advantages: it can be mass-produced in a factory, it is lighter than an existing H-beam, it can be fabricated on the spot, and its section size is freely adjustable. The T1 specimens exhibited ductile behavior, where the whole section displayed strain corresponding to yielding strain at least without separation between modules. They also exhibited maximum strength similar to the theoretical values even if shear reinforcement was not applied, due to the marginal difference between shear strength and maximum bending monment of the concrete section. A slip between modules was incurred by shear failure of the bolts in all specimens, excluding the T1 specimen, and therefore bending moment could not be fully displayed.
