This paper pursues a comparative study on the design and function of the ready-made Bo-Son and the Bo-Son Pattern based on teaching and learning materials. It intends to investigate whether the Bo-Son is designed to suit to Kinetics of foot or to give the ease of wearing and taking off. The following results came out through trial wearing. 1) The Bo-Son pattern suggested in teaching materials can not satisfy the wearers with partial modification due to design problem. On the other hand, the ready-made Bo-Son can satisfy them with partial modification. 2) The important factor in designing the pattern of Bo-Son is the posture of foot when putting on it, that is, the height of the heel of the foot from the floor, the length of the heel, the length of toe and the bending angle of toe. 3) As a result of this study, in the design of the improved Bo-Son pattern, it is most suitable when the size of foot is 230mm, the height of the heel of the foot is 12.5cm, and and angle of the front toe of a sock is 35$^{\circ}C$.

Recently, there has been growing interest in low loss and low dielectric constant material for LTCC application, as the frequency range for electronic devices increases. This study was designed to evaluate the effect of cordierite filler for low dielectric constant LTCC material. From the previous experiments, two glass compositions of B-Si-Al-Zn-Ba-Ca-O and B-Si-Al-Sr-Ca-O system, were chosen. Each powder of two glass compositions was sintered respectively with commercial cordierite powder in temperature range from $800^{\circ}C\;to\;900^{\circ}C$. Crystalline cordierite and glass peaks were affected only with two factors of composition and sintering temperature among various factors. With the optimized condition of two cordierite/glass compositions, obtained dielectric constant was below 5.5 and quality factor was above 1,000. Closed pore of sintered body was controled by sintering temperature and sintering time. When cordierite/glass composite with ratio of 5.5:4.5 was sintered at $900^{\circ}C$, densification was sufficient with good dielectric characteristics of ${\epsilon}_r<5.1,\;Q{\ge}1,000$. Residual fine closed pores could be reduced with control of sintering temperature and time. 3 point bending strength and chemical durability were evaluated to obtain feasibility for substrate material.
The main objective of this paper is to study the dynamic load allowance (DLA) calculation methods for bridges according to the dynamic response curve. A simply-supported concrete bridge with a smooth road surface was taken as an example. A half-vehicle model was employed to calculate the dynamic response of deflection and bending moment in the mid-span section under different vehicle speeds using the vehicle-bridge coupling method. Firstly, DLAs from the conventional methods and code provisions were analyzed and critically evaluated. Then, two improved computing approaches for DLA were proposed. In the first approach, the maximum dynamic response and its corresponding static response or its corresponding minimum response were selected to calculate DLA. The second approach utilized weighted average method to take account of multi-local DLAs. Finally, the DLAs from two approaches were compared with those from other methods. The results show that DLAs obtained from the proposed approaches are greater than those from the conventional methods, which indicate that the current conventional methods underestimate the dynamic response of the structure. The authors recommend that the weighted average method based on experiments be used to compute DLAs because it can reflect the vehicle's whole impact on the bridge.
Single span historic bridges often contain non-prismatic members identified with a varying depth along their span lengths. Commonly, the symmetric parabolic height variations having the constant haunch length ratio of 0.5 have been selected to lower the stresses at the high bending moment points and to maintain the deflections within the acceptable limits. Due to their non-prismatic geometrical configuration, their assessment, particularly the computation of fixed-end horizontal forces (FEFs) and fixed-end moments (FEMs) becomes a complex problem. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the behavior of non-prismatic beams with symmetrical parabolic haunches (NBSPH) having the constant haunch length ratio of 0.5 using finite element analyses (FEA). FEFs and FEMs due to vertical loadings as well as the stiffness coefficients and the carry-over factors were computed through a comprehensive parametric study using FEA. It was demonstrated that the conventional methods using frame elements can lead to significant errors, and the deviations can reach to unacceptable levels for these types of structures. Despite the robustness of FEA, the generation of FEFs and FEMs using the nodal outputs of the detailed finite element mesh still remains an intricate task. Therefore, this study advances to propose effective formulas and dimensionless estimation coefficients to predict the FEFs, FEMs, stiffness coefficients and carry-over factors with reasonable accuracy for the analysis and re-evaluation of the NBSPH. Using the proposed approach, the fixed-end reactions due to vertical loads, and also the stiffness coefficients and the carry-over factors of the NBSPH can be determined without necessitating the detailed FEA.
In this paper, a simple and refined nonlocal hyperbolic higher-order beam theory is proposed for bending and vibration response of nanoscale beams. The present formulation incorporates the nonlocal scale parameter which can capture the small scale effect, and it considers both shear deformation and thickness stretching effects by a hyperbolic variation of all displacements across the thickness without employing shear correction factor. The highlight of this formulation is that, in addition to modeling the displacement field with only two unknowns, the thickness stretching effect (${\varepsilon}_z{\neq}0$) is also included in the present model. By utilizing the Hamilton's principle and the nonlocal differential constitutive relations of Eringen, the equations of motion of the nanoscale beam are reformulated. Verification studies demonstrate that the developed theory is not only more accurate than the refined nonlocal beam theory, but also comparable with the higher-order shear deformation theories which contain more number of unknowns. The theoretical formulation proposed herein may serve as a reference for nonlocal theories as applied to the static and dynamic responses of complex-nanobeam-system such as complex carbon nanotube system.

There are many reports on fatigue crack of metallic materials but most of them relate crack propagation rate to stress intensity factor. The problem of crack propagation is not yet clarified, especially the bridge between micro and macro phenomena In this experiment rotating bending fatigue tests have been carried out with smoothed specimen of rolled steel plates including 0.2% carbon under application of three stress conditions to investigate the slip band and the crack propagation behaviour. The results obtained are as follows; 1) The length of cracks which have grown at initial crack tips can be expressed as follows; $l=Ae^{BNr}$(A,B: constant, $N_r$: cycle ratio) $\frac{dl}{dN}=\frac{AB}{N_f}{\cdot}e^{BNr}$($N_f$:fatigue life) 2) The ratio of slipped grain number to total grain number is $S_f=7{\sigma}-5.6$-5.6{\sigma}_c$($\sigma$: stress amplitude) (${\sigma}_c$: fatigue limit) 3) When the fatigue process transfers from Stage I to Stage II, the crack which propagates into specimen changes its direction from that of the maximum shear stress to the direction of perpendicular to principal stress and this is same in the circumferential direction of specimen. the crack propagation behaviors of both sides of a crack are different each other when they approach to the grain boundary.

The failure of hydraulic hose assemblies is caused by the impulse pressure and repetitive motions of bending and stretching (flexing) used at high pressure pipe in the form of bursting Since it takes long time to observe the bursting for life analysis, we can reduce test time by the method of applying the Knockdown stress which is equivalent to 70% of initial bursting pressure on rubber hose assemblies with maintaining the failure mode equally In this study, after scale parameter, shape parameter, and acceleration factor by preforming the impulse pressure test until the hose bursts, and finally analyzed the accelerated life.

Asbestos-cement is a material with valuable strength and durability. It was extensively used for water distribution pipes across the world from the 1950s until the early 1980s. The network of pipes in this case study dates from the 1970s, and after more than 30 to 40 years of service, some pipes have been found to break under common service pressure with no apparent reason. A set of mechanical tests was performed including bending, compression, pressure and crushing tests. Microscopy analysis was also used to understand the material behaviour. Tests showed that there was a clear loss of strength in the pipes and that the safety factor was under the established threshold in most of the specimens. Microscopy results showed morphological damage to the pipes. The loss of strength was attributed to a leaching effect. Leaching damages the cement matrix and reduces the frictional interfacial shear stress.
During machining, since more than 50% compliance of the cutting point in machine tool structures comes from headstocks, with the remainder coming from beds, slides and structural joints, the structural analysis of the headstock is very important to improve the static and dynamic performances. Especially, in case of machining hard and brittle materials such as glasses and ceramics with the grinding machine, the reinforced headstock with the high damping material is demanded. Since the fiber reinforced composite materials have excellent properties for structures, owing to its high specific modulus, high damping and low thermal expansion, it is expected that the dynamic and thermal characteristics of the headstock will be improved if they are employed as the materials fur headstock. In this paper, the design and the manufacturing methods as well as the static and dynamic characteristics of a steel-composite hybrid headstock were investigated analytically and experimentally to improve the performance of the grinding machine system.
An important issue in the design of soil-nailing systems, as long-term retaining walls, is to assess their stability during seismic events. As such, this study is aimed at simulating the dynamic behavior and failure pattern of nailed structures using two series of numerical analyses, namely dynamic time history and pseudo-static. These numerical simulations are performed using the Finite Difference Method (FDM). In order to consider the actual response of a soil-nailed structure, nonlinear soil behaviour, soil-structure interaction effects, bending resistance of structural elements and construction sequences have been considered in the analyses. The obtained results revealed the efficiency of both analysis methods in simulating the seismic failure mechanism. The predicted failure pattern consists of two sliding blocks enclosed by three slip surfaces, whereby the bottom nails act as anchors and the other nails hold a semi-rigid soil mass. Moreover, it was realized that an increase in the length of the lowest nails is the most effective method to improve seismic stability of soil-nailed structures. Therefore, it is recommended to first estimate the nails pattern for static condition with the minimum required static safety factor. Then, the required seismic stability can be obtained through an increase in the length of the lowest nails. Moreover, placement of additional long nails among lowest nails in existing nailed structures can be considered as a simple retrofitting technique in seismic prone areas.
