In this study, the material properties of UHPC mixed with graphene was investigated. The compressive strength, the bending strength and the permeability test was conducted. As a result, there was no improvement in compressive strength by the graphene, but the bending strength increased by 20% by the graphene. The water penetration amount decreased by 80% by the graphene.
$\beta$-Tricalcium phosphate ($\beta$-TCP) particles reinforced bioresorbable plastics poly-L-lactide (PLLA) composites were prepared by injection molding. The nominal weight ratio of $\beta$-TCP was selected as 5, 10 and 15%. In order to clarify effects of the PLLA crystallinity on the mechanical properties, the specimens were heat treated isothermally. Results of differential scanning calorimetry indicated that the PLLA crystallinity increased with increasing heat treatment temperature. Bending and compressive tests were conducted on the specimen with different $\beta$-TCP contents and crystallinities. The results show that the bending and compressive moduli increased with increasing $\beta$-TCP contents and crystallinity. On the other hand, bending strength decreased with increasing $\beta$-TCP contents. Maximum bending strength was obtained at the heat treatment of $70^{\circ}C$ for 24 h, whereas compressive 0.2% proof strength increased with increasing heat treatment temperature. This difference is attributed to the difference in the microscopic damages.
The purpose of this experimental study is to investigate the compressive strength, shear strength, bending strength, and crack control by the mixture of the hwang-toh. The size of compressive specimens is $200{\times}200{\times}400(mm)$, and the size of shear, bending specimens is $200{\times}200{\times}600(mm)$. Finally, crack control specimens for comparative comparison is $200{\times}200{\times}15(mm)$. The mixture of the hwang-toh is as follows; Hwangtoh( H)+Water(W), H+W+Sand(S), H+W+S+sTraw(0.5%), H+W+S+sT(1.0%). The actual height, width, and the length are measured at the center of all specimens. The main parameters are mixture ratio of hwang-toh, straw and age of specimens. The test results are as follows. (1) The compressive strength is linearly increased until 15 weeks according to specimen ages. (2) About crack control, the specimen added in 1% straw is the most effective.
The selected physical and mechanical properties of non-certificated LVL circulated in domestic lumber market were investigated and compared to relevant standards. The tested LVL passed the moisture content and the soaking delamination rate limit as per domestic (KS) and Japanese standard (JAS). The evaluated mechanical properties were flatwise/edgewise bending strength, modulus of elasticity (MOE), horizontal shear and compressive strength. The 30 mm-thick LVL showed significantly higher bending strength than that of the 25 mm-thick LVL. The modulus of elasticity (MOE) showed same tendency in the results of bending strength. The edgewise bending strength and MOE were higher than that of flatwise bending strength and MOE. The horizontal shear strength values were also showed similar results to bending strength values. The tested results were compared each other and each products were graded according to JAS 701 grade specification. The failure mode of LVL in bending test showed the similar failure mode of solidwood that failed in a simple tension manner (splintery tension). The glue line failure was severe in 25 mm-thick specimens due to concentration of shear stress in layer discontinuity containing small voids and starved glue lines. In horizontal shear strength test, failure mode of LVL showed the typical horizontal shear failure. Compressive specimens failed with fiber crushing in company with apparent delamination that splitted along the length of the specimens. From the results, the complete bonding between lamination and consistency in thin veneer layer were considered as a critical factor in the mechanical properties of LVL. Moreover, the standard test procedure and specification for non-certificated LVL should be required to check the performance of uncertificated materials.
The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of plantation thinning on physical and mechanical properties of Larix kaempferi. Tree samples were obtained from unthinned, moderately, heavily thinned plantations where located in Kwangryung forest research stand. The effects of different thinning methods on the bending and parallel to grain compressive strengths of Larix kaempferi were explored. Average latewood ratio with various thinning treatments revealed the trend of unthinning < moderate thinning < heavy thinning treatment. Average annual ring width with various thinning treatments showed the trend of unthinning < moderate thinning or heavy thinning treatment. Average bending and parallel to grain compressive strengths with various thinning treatments revealed the trend of unthinning > moderate thinning > heavy thinning treatment. This indicates that thinning treatment reduces average bending and parallel to grain compressive strength properties.
Relationship between growth rate and wood quality was investigated by mechanical properties with Alnus glutinosa L. (24 years old) from 4 different origins of seeds (Bulgary, Italy, United Kingdom and Yugoslavia). Compression strength was in the range of $231{\sim}326kgf/cm^2$, and there was some differences among different origins of seed. Wood cultivated from the seeds of Italy, United Kingdom, and Bulgary showed higher growth rate and had lower compression strength and compression young's modulus. Wood from Yugoslavia seed had the fastest growth rate with higher strength than other three origins of seed. Bending strength was in the range of $426{\sim}727kgf/cm^2$, and there was some differences among the origin of seed. Higher growth rate wood showed higher bending strength and young's modulus than other woods. Trees cultivated from Yugoslavia seed had two times in diameter than other different origins of seeds, also have compressive strength, bending strength than other origins, which can be recommended as best cultivar in Alnus glutinosa L.
This study was carried out to investigate the properties of woodceramics made from woody part of Broussonetia Kazinoki at different impregnation ratios of phenolic resin of 40, 50, 60, 70%. The physical and mechanical properties increased with increasing impregnation ratio. The highest mean values of density, bending strength, Brinell hardness and compressive strength were 0.66 g/$cm^3$, 53 kgf/$cm^2$, 187 kgf/$cm^2$, 126 kgf/$cm^2$, respectively. There were close correlations between density and bending strength, Brinell hardness and compressive strength, and between MOE and MOR.
We investigated the mechanical properties of Korean red pine (Geumgangsong, Pinus densiflora forma erecta Uyeki) of Uljin province in Korea as a basic research to investigated the material properties. Compressive strength of Korean red pine was $36.2N/mm^2$, which was slightly lower than the pine (Pinus densiflora S. et Z.) in Korea. The compressive strength of Korean red pine showed the maximum value at a distance of 60 mm from the pith. Bending strength of Korean red pine was $76.5N/mm^2$, which was slightly higher than the pine (Pinus densiflora S. et. Z.) and nut pine (Pinus koraiensis) in Korea. Similar to the compressive strength, bending strength of Korean red pine showed the maximum value at a distance of 60 mm from the pith. On the other hand, the shearing strength showed the maximum value at part of including the pith. This result does not coincide with the results of compressive and bending strength, in consideration of the specific gravity, which is consistent. Surface hardness of Korean red pine was $43.7N/mm^2$ in cross section, $12.0N/mm^2$ in radial section and $13.7N/mm^2$ in tangential section respectively. The mechanical properties of Korean red pine were similar to the pine and nut pine having a similar specific gravity. The mechanical properties were greatly affected on the specific gravity than the annual ring width.
This research was attempted as one of a study for investigating optimum contents of fly ash and briquette ash when they were used as admixtures. In mix designs of mortar, fly ash and briquette ash to cement, each of them, was mixed with 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 percent by weight of cement. They were tested for compressive strength, tension strength and bending strength, and these results were summarized as follows; 1. The compressive strength of mortar to add fly ash showed the maximum value at 25 percent. tension strength, 20 percent, bending strength, 15 percent. 2. In case of using briquette ash, compressive strength showed maximum strength at 15 percent. tension strength, 20 percent, bending strength, 20 percent. 3. To add fly ash showed in general more additive effect than to add briquette ash. 4. It was not only to excess standard strength but may be to develop as admixture when briquette ash was used around 20 percent.

Generally, normal concrete has the disadvantages of low tensile strength, low ductility and volume instability. To improve its performance, fiber reinforced cimentitious composite(FRCC) have been development. These composites are composed of cement, sand, water, a small amount of admixtures, and an optimal amount of fiber like synthetic fiber and steel fiber. This research investigates influence of sand, hybrid fiber and fiber volume fraction, and reports the test results of mechanical properties, fracture behavior and failure pattern of the FRCC. Our experiment was observed that sand mixed FRCC has lower compressive strength and higher bending strength than no sand mixed FRCC, and more steel fiber mixed FRCC has higher compressive strength and bending strength. Hybrid FRCC of steel and polypropylene had superior properties than FRCC of polypropylene only in same fiber volume fraction.
