  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to see the effect of beevenom on inhibition of Alopecia Universalis. Methods : Beevenom was injected subcutaneously through the borderline of head scalp alopecia starting and, also, region feeling stiff tension. Results : Hair falling off seized and scalp tension was vanished. Conclusions : Beevenom seemed to inhibit the progression of Alopecia by recirculating the blood flow as stiff tension over head was solved and anti-inflammatory effect of beevenom seizing inflammation on the scalp. Further evaluation with big sample size control study would be required to manifest the rationale and effectness of Beevenom over Alopecia Universalis.

  • Objective : To examine the effects of Beevenom on the cell proliferation of human breast carcinoma cell line MCF-7, we performed various experiments such as does-dependent effect of Beevenom on cell proliferation and viability, morphological changes, and alterations of apoptosis/cell cycle-regulatory gene products. Methods : Beevenom induced cell viability and proliferation of MCF-7 cells in a concentration-dependent manner. The anti-proliferative effect by Beevenom treatment in MCF-7 cells was associated with morphological changes such as membrance shrinking and cell rounding up. Results : Beevenom induced apoptotic cell death in a concentration-dependent manager, which was associated with degradation of ${\beta}$-catenin, an apoptotic target protein. Beevenom induced the Bax expressions, a pro-apoptotic gene, both in protein and mRNA levels, however, the levels of Bcl-$X_{S/L}$ expression, an anti-apoptotic gene, were down-regulated in Beevenom-treated cells. Western blot analysis and RT-PCT data revealed that the levels of cyclin of B1 protein and cyclin E mRNA were reduced by Beevenom treatment in MCF-7 cells, respectively, where as the expression of tumor suppressor p53 and cyclin dependent kinase inhibitor p21 mRNA were markedly increased in a concentration-dependent fashion. Conclusions : Taken together, these findings suggest that Beevenom induced inhibition of human breast cancer cell proliferation is associated with the induction of apoptotic cell death and Beevenom may have therapeutic potential in human breast cancer.

  • Objectives : The purpose on this study is to report clinical effects of oriental medicine for traumatic brachial plexus injury. Methods : The patient was treated using acupuncture, electroacupuncture, beevenom acupuncture treatment, herbal medication, moxibustion and physical treatment. And the effects for traumatic brachial plexus injury have measured in VAS, sthenometry and dermatome of upper limb. Results : 1. VAS of upper limb pain was changed to go down at less than half. 2. Sthenometry was improved slowly than VAS. 3. Dermatome of upper limb were improved gradually. Conclusions : Oriental medical treatment showed positive effect on traumatic brachial plexus injury.

  • Objectives : The aim of this study is to review papers on adverse events in the course of Oriental Medical treatments in the JKAMS and the JCTKAM. Methods : We searched papers up to December 2010 in the JKAMS and The JCTKAM. Electronic and manual literature searches were performed. Results : 92 papers were retrived in total. Out of these, 62 reported the occurrence of adverse events whereas 30 reported none. Adverse events in treatments were generally transient and mild. However, this result had limitations due to the insufficient number of papers reporting adverse events and the inconsistency in the methodology according to each paper. Conclusions : Reports on adverse events are necessary in clinical research. In future research, organized case reports and systemic reviews should be carried out. Furthermore, prospective studies should be done as well.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is analyzing the current research methodology of pharmacopucture for the treatment of animal cancer models. Methods : Four electronic databases were searched for animal studies published from January 2000 to September 2014 onward using these search terms "cancer, anticancer, pharmacopuncture, beevenom". Selected articles were described about animal cancer models. The methods used to induce cancer and the outcome measures used to assess the effects of pharmacopuncture on animal cancer models were analyzed. Results : 37 articles were included. For producing animal cancer models BALB/C mice(n=22) and C57BL/6 mice(n=17) were selected. And intravenous injection of B16-F10 melanoma cells into tail vein(n=14) or intraperitoneal injection of sarcoma-180 cells(n=14) were frequently used to induce cancer. Various pharmacopunctures were injected into acupoints $CV_{12}(n=19)$, $ST_{36}(n=8)$, $BL_{18}(n=8)$ or peritoneal cavity(n=6), tumor site(n=2), tail vein(n=2). Outcome measures were categorized into anti-cancer, anti-metastasis, general condition, cytotoxicity, immune response, toxicity. Median Survival Time(MST) and increase of life span(ILS)(n=26) was frequently used for evaluating anti-cancer effects. And pulmonary colonization assay(n=13) was frequently used for evaluating anti-metastasis effects Conclusions : Based on these data, further research would be needed to ascertain the effectiveness of pharmacopuncture for treating cancer and broaden the range of clinical applications.
