  • As people have more interest in environment-friendly structures recently, many researchers are actively researching non-sintered cement in Korea and other countries. Non-sintered cement shows various characteristics of its reaction products and hardeners, depending on the kind of alkali activators. Thus, this study manufactures ground granulated blast furnace slag based non-sintered cement binder by using circulating fluidized bed combustion ash, which is a kind of industrial byproduct, as a stimulant, and investigated its hardening characteristics and hydration, depending on the rate of circulating fluidized bed combustion ash. Besides, this study investigated its insulation property according to the weight lightening of non-sintered cement. As a result, ettringite and C-S-H were mainly formed in the hydration, and it was possible to manufacture a non-sintered cement hardener over 50 MPa. Lastly, it was possible to manufacture a non-sintered cement hardener in a thermal conductivity level of $0.127W/m{\cdot}K$ when the compressive strength was 10 MPa for weight lightening.

  • The effects of multipore spawn inoculation of Lentinus edodes on the mycelial growth stage and on the quantitative and qualitative yields of fruit-bodies for 5 years were investigated at natural environmental conditions. The spawn inoculation quantity did not affect the mycelial rooting at a range of 3.0kg-6.0kg per $m^3$ of bed-logs while the increase of spawn quantity by multipore inoculation increased the mycelial growth and the inner erosion of bed-logs, resulting in the increased yields of total fruit-bodies of L. edodes per $m^3$ of bed-logs for 5 years but resulting in the shortened major production period of fruit-bodies to the the first three years. Major production of fruit-bodies occurred during May-June and August-September, which was not affected by the spawn inoculation quantity. No significant differences in dry weight of a fruit-body were observed as increasing the spawn quantity by multipore inoculation; however the heaviest dry weight of a fruit-body was 1.63g at the spawn inoculation of 4.0kg per $m^3$/TEX> of bed-logs.

  • This study presents a new method of estimating the size distribution of river bed gravel through image processing. The analysis was done in two steps; first the individual grain images were analyzed and then the grain particle segmentation of river-bed images were processed. In the first part of the analysis, the relationships (long axes, intermediate axes and projective areas) between grain features from images and those measured were compared. For this analysis, 240 gravel particles were collected at three river stations. All particles were measured with vernier calipers and weighed with scales. The measured data showed that river gravel had shape factors of 0.514~0.585. It was found that the weight of gravel had a stronger correlation with the projective areas than the long or intermediate axes. Using these results, we were able to establish an area-weight formula. In the second step, we calculated the projective areas of the river-bed gravels by detecting their edge lines using the ImageJ program. The projective areas of the gravels were converted to the grain-size distribution using the formula previously established. The proposed method was applied to 3 small- and medium- sized rivers in Korea. Comparisons of the analyzed size distributions with those measured showed that the proposed method could estimate the median diameter within a fair error range. However, the estimated distributions showed a slight deviation from the observed value, which is something that needs improvement in the future.

  • Electro-hydraulic sliding deck systems have been developed to reduce the weight for the loading of an agricultural machine. The extension length of the sliding deck was calculated according to the bed's dump angle. The optimum thickness and material were determined using a large and heavy load at acceptable angles. In addition, the degrees of freedom were calculated to obtain the input/output relationship of the system. An equation was derived using a simplified model formula for the extended length of the sliding deck according to the bed's dump angle. Also, the advance length at the maximum and minimum angles of the system was determined using numerical analysis. A down-scaled model of the system was constructed and verified by experiments. The deck was simplified to determine the material and thickness of the sliding deck and for the selection of the two representative materials. The simplified model was tested in deformation tests and stress tests with different thicknesses and materials using a structure analysis program. The analysis results show that ATOS80 is the best among the two materials for reducing the weight of the system.

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of the reuse of sawdust fermented with swine excretion as bed material on the growth performance of pigs. The sawdust which was already fermented with swine excretion in the pig house for eight months was transported to a fermentation facility for secondary fermentation. A total of 96 pigs with average 30kg of initial body weight were randomly assigned in the $2{\times}2$ factorial design with two levels(0%, 1.5%) of probiotics added for secondary fermentation and two levels(0%, 1.5%) of probiotics in feed. The results obtained are as follows : 1. Total-nitrogen(T-N), $K_2O$, total-carbon(T-C), and carbon/nitrogen(C/N) in sawdust bed showed no significant difference within treatments, but phosphate increased by 57% in average compared to the initial. 2. There was no significant difference in temperature in the sawdust bed treatments. 3. The internal parasite eggs detected were Trichuris suis, Strong. ransomi, Ascaris suum, Coccidia and Balantidium coli. 4. The utilization period of sawdust fermented with swine excretion was 52, 26, 16, 4, 5, 3 days, respectively, with increase of body weight. 5. Average daily gain and feed conversion were significantly improved by adding probiotics in the feed(P<0.05), but there was no difference between fermented sawdust with or without probiotics. 6. There was no significant difference in carcass weight and backfat thickness of pig among treatments(P>0.05).

  • The authors carried out an experiment to determine the vertical opening of the midwater trawl, which is the same used in the former experiment in this series of studies. To determine the vertical opening of otter board and front weight, three fish finders were used. A 200 KHz fish finder set on board the research vessel was used to sound the depth of water. A transmitter of 50 KHz fish finder was set through the shoe plate of otter board to determine the height of otter board from the sea bed, and a transmitter of another 50 KHz fish finder was set downwardly on the net pendant right before the front weight to determine the height of weight from the sea bed. The depth of otter board and weight were calculated by subtract the height of those from the depth of water, respectively. To determine the vertical opening of mouth, a transmitter of net recorder was set on the head rope and the vertical opening of that to ground rope was directly read on the recording paper. The results obtained can be summarized as follows: 1. The rate of the depth of otter board to the length of warp was in the range of 0.44 to 0.25, and the depth was linearly shoaled about 5m per 0.1m/sec of the towing speed or per 20rpm of the main engine. The rate of the observed depth to the calculated depth of otter board was in the range of 0.92 to 0.080 with a decreasing tendancy in accordance with the increase of towing speed. 2. The depth of head rope was 2 to 3m deeper than that of otter board, and the vertical opening of net mouth was in the range of 22 to 19m, with a decreasing tendancy in accordance with the increase of towing speed, 3. The difference of depth between front weight and otter board was about 20m and 22m respectively in the length of warp 100m and 150m without distinct change in accordance with the towing speed. The depth of front weight was 2 to 3m shallower than that of ground rope. 4. The changing range of depth of head rope according to the revolution of main engine was about 4m per 20rpm.

  • This research was performed to estimate the influence of relative light intensity and planting density on the growth of dry weight of needles and other organs growth in Korean white pine seedlings raised in the transplanting bed. 1. As treated with various light intensities, relationships between needle dry weight and growth of other organs(dry weight of shoot, root and diameter of seedlings) had significantly positive correlations and linear regressions, but regression between needle dry weight and seedling elongation was a second degree polynomial. As treated with various planting densities, the second degree regression curve was found between needle dry weight and shoot dry weight, and seedling elongation, And linear regression between needle dry weight and root dry weight, and seedling dry weight could be estimated, while any regression between needle dry weight and diameter was not recognized. 2. As treated with various light intensities, linear regression between leaf area and shoot dry weight, and seedling dry weight, exponential regression between leaf area and seedling elongation were significantly recognized, while a tendency of logarithmic regression between leaf area and diameter appeared. According to the different density treatment, logarithmic regression between leaf area and shoot dry weight, linear regression between leaf area and root dry weight, and seedling dry weight, but quadric regression between leaf area and seedling elongation and diameter were significantly found.
