고온/고압 환경 하에서 물로 윤활되는 그루브 저어널 베어링의 윤활 해석 (Lubrication Analysis of the Grooved Journal Bearing Lubricated with Pressurized High Temperature Water)

  • Specially designed grooved journal bearings are installed in the main coolant pump for SMART (System-integrated Modular Advanced ReacTor) to support radial load on the rotating shaft. The canned motor type main coolant pumps are arranged vertically on the reactor vessel and filled with circulating primary coolant which is pure water. The main coolant pump bearings are lubricated with this coolant without any other external lubricant supply. Because lubricating condition is too severe for this bearing to generate proper hydrodynamic film, investigation of lubrication characteristics of the journal bearing is important to satisfy life constraint of whole pump system, and the results will be applied to the analysis of dynamic characteristics of the shaft system. The bearing is made of silicon graphite which has self$.$lubricating effect. A lubrication analysis method is proposed for this vertically grooved journal bearing in the main coolant pump of SMART, and lubricational characteristics of the bearings are examined in this paper.

Heat Generation Model of Angular Contact Ball Bearing with Oil-Air Lubrication

  • Angular contact ball bearings are mainly used in the spindle, which requires high speed and stiffness. The heat generation is studied by experiments and simulations using a pair of angular contact ball bearings. The temperature variation of inner and outer races and the temperature increment distribution are measured by using thermocouples for the rotational speed, preload, viscosity of lubricant. The measured values from experiments are used to estimate the heat conduction rate. The method of oil-air lubrication is used for the experiment. The amount of conduction heat transfer to the test spindle and the convection heat transfer coefficients long the spindle are computed by using inverse method with temperature increment distribution. Total heat generation rate is estimated with the heat partition rate which is calculated from temperatures of inner and outer races. In addition, the empirical factor of oil-air lubrication method for Palmgren's heat generation model is suggested. The empirical friction coefficients, which are obtained from the experiments, depend on the preload condition, and can give us more accurate estimation of the heat generation in ball bearings.

  • This paper presents the thermal characteristic analysis of a high-speed HMC with spindle speed of 50,000rpm. The spindle is supported by two radial and axial magnetic bearings. and the built-in motor is located between the axial and rear radial magnetic bearings. The X-axis and Y-axis feeding systems are composed of linear motor and linear motion guides, and the Z-axis feeding system is composed of servo-motor, ballscrew and linear motion guide. The thermal analysis model of high-speed HMC is constructed by the finite element method, and the thermal characteristics in the design stage are estimated based on the temperature distribution and thermal deformation under the conditions related to the heat generation of built-in motor, magnetic bearings, linear motors, servo-motor, ballscrew, and so on.

  • This paper proposes a method to calculate the stiffness and the damping coefficients of the coupled journal and thrust bearings. The Reynolds equations and their perturbation equations are transformed to the finite element equations by considering the continuity of pressure and flow at the interface between bearings. The Reynolds boundary condition is used in the numerical analysis to simulate the cavitation phenomena. The dynamic coefficients of the proposed method are compared with those of the numerical differentiation of the loads with respect to finite displacements and velocities of bearing center. It shows that the proposed method is more accurate and efficient than the differentiation method.

  • A dynamometer was designed and constructed to measure three directional forces and moments of pull type implement with eliminating the interference between the forces. The dynamometer consists of a linear motion bearing, self-aligning bearings, universal joints, and cantilevers where strain gages were attached. A data acuquisition system was developed to collect data and to analyze them. The data acuquisition system consists of the dynamometer, a potentiometer to measure the implement depth, strain amplifiers, a A/D converter, and an IBM-AT compatible microcomputer. Program, written in C language, was developed to read data from tranducers with given interval, to calculate forces and moments, to display them on screen, and to store them on disk. The calibration results showed that cantilevers had good linearity and there was no interference among directional forces. When applied loads were reduced with constant rate, hysteresis was appeared on the dynamometer. It might to be reduced by using ball bearings instead of self-aligning bearings.

  • Micro turbine is an electric power generating system using a gas turbine whose rated power is under 300kW, and it is featured as a small, efficient. maintenance free and environment-friendly system. Air foil bearing has several advantages over conventional bearings for micro turbine because it is oilless and non-contact. Recently, air foil bearings for high temperature over $500^{\circ}C$ has been developed for the application of 65kW micro turbine system. In this paper, the development and current status are summarized in detail.

  • The micro turbo generator is new portable power source based on the Brayton cycle, which consists of a compressor, a turbine, a generator, and a combustion chamber. In this paper, the thermodynamic analysis was performed to find the required condition for hundreds watts power in the micro turbo generator, and also the rotordynamic stability was predicted using the numerical analysis of air foil bearings which support the micro turbo generator. By experimental works, the rotordynamic stability of the micro turbo generator with foil bearings was verified. While various transient dynamic situation, the micro turbo generator had stable performances. From the result, it was demonstrated that air foil bearings could be adapted to the micro turbo generator as a excellent lubrication element.

  • The two-microphone sound-intensity technique has been used for the detection of defects in ra-ally loaded ball bearings. The difference in the sound-intensity levels measured for bearings with no defect and for those with intentionally introduced defects of different sizes n heir elements under various operating conditions of loads and speeds is demonstrated. The results show that of an inner-race or ball defect. It is difficult to detect defects at lower speeds. Sound-pressure measurements were also performed for comparison and it shown that the detectability of defects by sound-intensity measurements is better than that by sound-pressure measurements.

유막 베어링에 지지된 탄성회전체의 모드 밸런싱 실험 (Experiment Onmodal Balancing of a Flexible Rotor Supported on Fluid Film Bearings)

  • Experiment on the modal balancing of a flexible rotor supported on two kinds of fluid film bearings is performed to verify the modal balancing theory. The fluid film bearings are a tilting pad bearing and a two axial grooved journal bearing. One is inherently stable, but the other is not. The experimental result shows that the modal balancing method is effective for balancing of a high speed flexible rotor system. Besides, the critical speeds and mode shapes measured experimentally are in good coincidence with the results of rotordynamic analysis. Oil whip, which is the instability phenomenon due to fluid film force, is also observed during the experiment.

  • In order to meet the growing demands for higher storage density as well as lower noise level, the spindles In hard disk drives are to be supported by hydrodynamic bearings in place of conventional ones. However, the existing models are inappropriate to apply to accurate Prediction or vibration characteristics because the Inn spindle tends to take quite a complex shape to secure the performance of the new type bearings. In this context, this paper treats analysis of free and forced vibrations of such-designed HDD spindles based on more sophisticated models and validation by means of experiments. Remarkably, to this end each component in the system is modeled as elastic adopting the finite element method.
