In high multistory reinforced concrete buildings, coupled shear walls can provide an efficient structural system to resist horizontal force due to wind and seismic effects. Coupled shear walls are usually built over the whole height of the building and re laid out either as a series of walls coupled by beams and/or slabs or a central core structure with openings to accommodate doors, elevators walls, windows and corridors. A number of recent studies have focused on examining the seismic response of concrete, steel, and composite coupling beams. However, since no specific equations are available for computing the bearing strength of steel coupling beam-wall connections, it is necessary to develop such strength equations. There were carried out analytical and experimental studies to develop the strength equations of steel coupling beam-connections. Experiments were conducted to determine the factors influencing the bearing strength of the steel coupling beam-wall connection. The results of the proposed equations were in good agreement with both test results and other test data from the literature. Finally, this paper provides background for design guidelines that include a design model to calculate the bearing strength of steel coupling beam-wall connections.

The aim of this paper was to study the influence of the footing shape and the effect of the roughness of the foundation base on the bearing capacity of shallow foundations on rock masses. For this purpose the finite difference method was used to analyze the bearing capacity of various types and states of rock masses under the assumption of Hoek-Brown failure criterion, for both plane strain and axisymmetric model, and considering smooth and rough interface. The results were analyzed based on a sensitivity study of four varying parameters: foundation width, rock material constant (mo), uniaxial compressive strength and geological strength index. Knowing how each parameter influences the bearing capacity depending on the footing shape (circular vs strip footing) and the footing base interface roughness (smooth vs rough), two correlation factors were developed to estimate the percentage increase of the ultimate bearing capacity as a function of the footing shape and the roughness of the footing base interface.

Well designed group bolted connections can exhibit excellent ductile behavior through the bearing mechanism until the occurrence of shear rupture in the bolt or in the connecting plate. This excellent ductility can be utilized in favor of economical connection design. In this study, comprehensive tests on single-bolt bearing connections were conducted and analyzed considering bearing boundary conditions. The primary objective was to propose a generalized bearing strength and load-deformation relationship that can be used for designing group-bolted connections. To this end, new bearing strength formula, deformation limits as well as new load-deformation relationship were first proposed. Especially the proposed load-deformation relationship can reflect the stiffness, strength, and geometrical boundary conditions of the joint. The proposed formula and relationship are validated based on test results.
This paper describes the results of bearing capacity using field loading test of pile, in order to extend the applicability of drilled shaft with mid-size, and the results were compared with the prediction results of design bearing capacity by empirical formular. The static load test result showed that the allowable bearing capacity of high pile strength was about 2.4 times higher than that of low pile strength. The dynamic load test result showed that the allowable bearing capacity of high pile strength was about 1.4 times~1.5 times higher than that of low pile strength. The comparison result of allowable bearing capacity between static and dynamic load test showed that the difference of allowable load ranged from 3% to 6% under the same settlement conditions. As a result of comparing the ultimate bearing capacity by load test and design bearing capacity, it was found that the FHWA proposed equation could be more reasonable than the other proposed equation in load sharing ratios of end bearing and skin friction.
To study the mechanical properties of steel reinforced recycled concrete (SRRC) filled circular steel tube columns under eccentric compression loads, this study presents a finite element model which can simulate the eccentrically compressed columns using ABAQUS software. The analytical model was established by selecting the reasonable nonlinear analysis theory and the constitutive relationship of materials in the columns. The influences of design parameters on the eccentric compressive performance of columns were also considered in detail, such as the diameter-thickness ratio of circular steel tube, replacement percentage of recycled coarse aggregate (RCA), slenderness ratio, eccentricity, recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) strength and steel strength and so on. The deformation diagram, stress nephogram and load-displacement curves of the eccentrically compressed columns were obtained and compared with the test results of specimens. The results show that although there is a certain error between the calculation results and the test results, the error is small, which shows the rationality on the numerical model of eccentrically compressed columns. The failure of the columns is mainly due to the symmetrical bending of the columns towards the middle compression zone, which is a typical compression bending failure. The eccentric bearing capacity and deformation capacity of columns increase with the increase of the strength of steel tube and profile steel respectively. Compared with profile steel, the strength of steel tube has a greater influence on the eccentric compressive performance of columns. Improving the strength of RAC is beneficial to the eccentric bearing capacity of columns. In addition, the eccentric bearing capacity and deformation capacity of columns decrease with the increase of replacement percentage of RCA. The section form of profile steel has little influence on the eccentric compression performance of columns. On this basis, the calculation formulas on the nominal eccentric bearing capacity of columns were also put forward and the results calculated by the proposed formulas are in good agreement with the test values.
An almost permanent anchor (friction type) is resistant to ground deformation due to the friction between the soil and grout at a fixed length from the anchor body. The purpose of this study is to calculate the force of bearing resistance for a bearing anchor in enlarged boreholes. We conducted analytical and numerical analyses, along with laboratory testing, to find the quantities of bearing resistance prior to grouting in EBA (Enlarged Bearing Anchor) construction. The force of bearing resistance from the analytical method was defined as a function of general borehole diameter, expanded borehole diameter, and soil unconfined compressive strength. We also employed the Flac 3D finite difference numerical modeling code to analyze the bearing resistance of the soil conditions. We then created a laboratory experimental model to measure bearing resistance and carried out a pull-out test. The results of these three analyses are presented here, and a regression analysis was performed between bearing resistance and uniaxial compression strength. The laboratory results yield the strongest bearing resistance, with reinforcement 28.5 times greater than the uniaxial compression strength; the analytical and numerical analyses yielded values of 13.3 and 9.9, respectively. This results means that bearing resistance of laboratory test appears to be affected by skin friction resistance. To improve the reliability of these results, a comparison field study is needed to verify which results (analytical, numerical, or laboratory) best represent field observations.

SFRC(Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete) has advantage of crack resistance and ductility failure behavior. But the study which investigated about effect of steel fiber under bearing stress is not to be enough, and it does not be sure of criterion of SFRC for allowable bearing stress formula in internal specification. The purpose of this study is to clear the influence of SFRC on the bearing capacity and ductility of material through static loading test. additionally, arrive an allowable bearing stress formula for SFRC and examine mechanical behaviro by the 3-D finite element analysis.
With the increasing use of geotextile mats in dredging and reclaiming work and coastal construction, the assessment of bearing capacity in soft ground has become an important evaluation index for negligent accidents. The review of the allowable bearing capacity of soft ground consisting of inhomogeneous layers by laying geotextile mats and sand mat layers for soft ground improvement is generally compared with the equation of Meyerhof (1974) and Yamanouchi (1985). Mayerhof formula results in economic loss due to underestimation of bearing capacity, and Yamanouchi (1985) formula does not take into account negligent accidents for punching shear failure, so rather high bearing capacity is evaluated. It is considered that economic feasibility and stability will be ensured by proposing a modified formula to calculate the appropriate bearing capacity by applying the seam tensile strength of the geotextile mat to the design standard of soft ground improvement.
In this paper, cyclic loading tests on composite frame inner joints of steel-reinforced recycled concrete (SRRC) column-steel beam were conducted. The main objective of the test was to obtain the shear behavior and analyze the shear strength of the joints. The main design parameters in the test were recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) replacement percentage and axial compression ratio. The failure process, failure modes, hysteresis curves and strain characteristics of the joints were obtained, and the influences of design parameters on the shear strength of the joints have been also analysed in detail. Results show that the failure modes of the joints area are typical shear failure. The shear bearing capacity of the joints maximally decreased by 10.07% with the increase in the RCA replacement percentage, whereas the shear bearing capacity of the joints maximally increased by 16.6% with the increase in the axial compression ratio. A specific strain analysis suggests that the shear bearing capacity of the joints was mainly provided by the three shear elements of the recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) diagonal compression strut, steel webs and stirrups of the joint area. According to the shear mechanism and test results, the calculation formulas of the shear bearing capacity of the three main shear elements were deduced separately. Thus, the calculation model of the shear bearing capacity of the composite joints considering the adverse effects of the RCA replacement percentage was established through a superposition method. The calculated values of shear strength based on the calculation model were in good agreement with the test values. It indicates that the calculation method in this study can reasonably predict the shear bearing capacity of the composite frame inner joints of SRRC column-steel beam.

To calculate the end bearing capacity of a drilled Shaft socketed into the rockmass, the unconfined compression strength could be used. But it is difficult to find the unconfined compression strength because it is impossible to get undisturbed samples in weathered soils and rocks. So, to calculate the end bearing capacity, the existing bearing formula could not be used. In this study, for five zones (near pile tip, tip~lower 1D, tip~lower 2D, upper 1D~lower 1D, upper 1D~lower 2D), the relationships between the characteristic values of in-situ tests(SPT, DCPT PMT, BST) and the end bearing capacity of drilled shafts were analysed. As a result, DCPT results were represented the best credibility. Also, a design chart of end bearing capacity using DCPT was suggested.
