This paper analyzes file stiffness, damping coefficient, friction force and flow coefficient of externally pressurized oil journal beating, including the effect of journal rotation according to the Sommerfeld number. This paper assumed that the oil in the whole pocket has constant pressure, and that the oil in the whole bearing region has constant viscosity, temperature and density. Reynolds equation is derived from Nuvier - Stokes equation and continuity equation. And solved bearing pressure by ADI method for whole bearing region and fitted with out flow rate of pocket region. The model for numerical simulation is hydro - static oil journal bearing for high-speed, high-accuracy lathe spindle.

This paper present an optimum design for the rotor-bearing system of a high-speed (80000RPM) ultra-centrifuge supported by ball bearings with nonlinear stiffness characteristics. To obtain the nonlinear bearing stiffnesses, a ball bearing is modelled in five degrees of freedom and is analyzed quasi-statically. The dynamic behaviors of the nonlinear rotor-bearing system are analyed by using a transfer-matrix method iteratively. For optimum design, minimizing the weight of a rotor is used as a cost function and the Augmented Lagrange Multiplier (ALM) method is employed. The result shows that the rotor-bearing system is optimized to obtain 8% weight reduction.
This study set out to predict the load capacity and rotordynamic coefficients of tilting-pad journal bearings, taking the pivot stiffness into account. The analysis uses rocker-back (cylindrical) and ball in socket (spherical) pivot models, both of which are based on Hertzian contact stress theory. The models ascertain the non-linear elastic deformation of the pivots according to the applied load, pivot geometry, and material properties. At present, the Reynolds equation for an isothermal, isoviscous, and incompressible fluid is used to calculate the film pressure by using the finite-element method, after which the Newton-Raphson method is used to simultaneously find the journal center location, pad angles, and pivot deflections. The bearing analysis, excluding the pivot models, is validated using predictions those are readily available in the literature. As the rotor speed increases, the predicted journal eccentricity and damping coefficients decrease, but the stiffness coefficients increase, as expected. Most importantly, the implementation of the pivot models increases the journal eccentricity but significantly decreases the stiffness and damping coefficients of the tilting-pad journal bearings.
Generally, it is said that the heat generation of air bearing is negligible. But the air bearing using at the built-in spindle is different from the general air bearing itself because of the thermal effects from the spindle motor and high-speed conditions. In this paper, in order to analysis the characteristics of air bearing by the heat, We made easy -heating-bearing-system (EHBS) and hard-heating-bearing-system (HHBS) and could identify the changes between the two bearing systems from the experiments and simulation. When spindle system reached at thermal steady-state, the changes means that the stiffness of air bearing becomes change due to the clearance change between bearing and journal. It is shown that the temperature rise and thermal effects to cause the thormal expansions have to be considered when designing air spindle system.
In this Part II study, rotordynamic stability analyses were carried out to confirm improvements to the stability of a process high-speed lightweight centrifugal compressor, depending on the effects of tilting pad journal bearing designs. The bearing design variables considered were the clearances, LBPs, LOPs, and preloads. The results showed that the rotordynamic stability of the subject compressor rotor-bearing system improves exactly in accordance with the effects of the bearing design variables, which were determined in the preceding Part I study, owing to reduced bearing stiffnesses. Specifically, it was confirmed that the stability of the rotor system can be greatly improved by increasing both the machined and assembled bearing clearances, but there were no stability improvements by simply changing from an LBP to an LOP design. In addition, it was confirmed that for given fixed machined bearing clearances, the stability can be additionally improved by decreasing the preloads, i.e., by increasing the assembled clearances. In conclusion, it may be necessary to improve the designs of the original tilting pad bearings to obtain a sufficient margin of rotordynamic stability against a possible aerodynamic cross-coupled stiffness in a process high-speed centrifugal compressor. Thus, increasing the machined and assembled bearing clearances and decreasing the preload could be effective solutions.

The spindle unit is core parts in high precision machine tools. Diverse static and dynamic charateristics of spindle unit are needed for special purpose of machine tools. Specially, high damping ability may be very useful to high precision and high speed spindle unit. But commercial bearing system has very low damping value and high stiffness. In this paper, the combined bearing system with ball-hydrostatic bearing is suggested for high damping spindle unit. The suggested bearing system has 30% damping ability more than general ball bearing's. The average rotational accuracy of spindle with combined bearing in working speed is 24% better than with ball bearing. The unbalance rotating experiment in spindle show that rotating error with combined bearing is only half value of with ball bearing.

In-situ bearing metal temperature and shaft vibration are measured for an unload type and a preload type, m=0.87, of vertical guide bearing for hydraulic pump-turbines. Guide bearing is a tiltingpad type journal bearing consisting of eight pads whose diameter is 1,450 mm. Rotational speed is 450 rpm. Both the bearing metal temperature and the shaft vibration are very high in the unload type but are slight in the preload type, comparatively. The bearing metal temperature is decreased due to the increase of cooling effect by the increase of preload and the shaft vibration is decreased due to the increase of bearing stiffness. It is concluded that the preload effect of a guide bearing for hydraulic pump-turbines has a large influence on the bearing metal temperature and the shaft vibration.

Because of their cleanliness, low friction, and high stiffness, aerostatic bearings are used in numerous applications. Aerostic bearings that use porous materials as means of flow restriction have higher stiffness than other types of bearings and have been successfully applied as guide bearings, which have high motion accuracy requirements. However, the performances of porous bearings exhibit strong nonlinearity and can vary considerably depending on design parameters. Therefore, accurate prediction of the performance characteristics of porous bearings is necessary or their successful application. This study presents a porous bearing design and performance analysis for a spindle used in wafer polishing. The Reynolds and Darcy flow equations are solved to calculate the pressures in the lubrication film and porous busing, respectively. To verify the validity of the proposed analytical model, the calculated pressure distribution in the designed bearing is compared with that derived from previous research. Additional parametric studies are performed to determine the optimal design parameters. Analytical results show that optimal design parameters that obtain the maximum stiffness can be derived. In addition, the results show that cross-coupled stiffness increases with rotating speed. Thus, issues related to stability should be investigated at the design stage.

This paper describes a theoretical analysis and experimental verification on the performances of a vacuum-compatible air bearing, which is designed with a cascaded exhaust scheme to minimize the air leakage in a vacuum environment. The design of the vacuum-compatible air bearing equipped with the differential exhaust system requires great care because several design parameters, such as the number of exhaust stages, diameter of exhaust tube, pumping speed of a vacuum pump, and bearing clearance greatly influence the air leakage and thus degree of vacuum. In this study, a performance analysis method was proposed to estimate the performances of the air bearing, such as load capacity, stiffness, and air leakage. Results indicate that the load capacity and stiffness of the air bearing was improved as its boundary pressure, which was determined by the $1^{st}$ exhaust method, was lowered, and the dominant factors on the chamber's degree of vacuum were the number of exhaust stages, exhaust tube diameter and bearing clearance. A vacuum chamber and air bearing stage using porous pad were fabricated to verify the theoretical analysis. The results demonstrate that chamber pressure up to an order of $10^{-3}$ Pa was achieved with the air bearing stage operating inside the chamber, and this analysis method was valid by comparing predicted values with experimental data, for the mass flow rates from the porous pad, and pressures at each exhaust port and chamber, respectively.

The pitch reducer consists of several planetary gearsets, and they should have good load distribution over gear tooth flank and load sharing among the planets to improve the durability. This work investigates how bearing internal clearances influence both the load distribution over the gear tooth flank and the planet load sharing. A whole system model is developed to analyze a pitch reducer. The model includes non-linear mesh stiffness of gears, non-linear stiffness of bearings. The results indicate that the face load factor and mesh load factor decrease, and the fatigue life of output shaft bearings increase as bearing internal clearances of output shaft decrease. Therefore, the internal clearance of output shaft bearing must be considered when designing the pitch reducer for wind turbines.
