Numerical modeling and simulation technique in time-domain for multibeam echo sounder

  • A Multibeam Echo Sounder (MBES) is commonly used for rapid seafloor mapping. We herein present a time-domain integrated system simulation technique for MBES development. The Modeling and Simulation (M&S) modules consist of four parts: sensor array signal transmission, propagation and backscattering modeling in the ocean environment, beamforming of the received signals, and image processing. Also, the simulation employs a ray-theory-based algorithm to correct the reconstructed bathymetry, which has errors due to the refraction caused by the vertical sound velocity profile. The developed M&S technique enables design parameter verification and system parameter optimization for MBES. The framework of this technique can also be potentially used to characterize the seabed properties. Finally, typical seafloor images are presented and discussed.

Optimal Numbers of Base Station Antennas and Users in Multiuser Massive MIMO Systems with Pilot Overhead (다중 사용자 Massive MIMO 시스템의 파일럿 오버헤드를 고려한 최적 기지국 안테나 수 및 사용자 수 분석)

  • In this paper, we consider multiuser massive multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) system where multiusers simultaneously utilize massive antennas of base station (BS). With a downlink frame structure considering pilot signals, we derive the ergodic cell capacity based on zero-forcing beamforming (ZFBF) technique. This paper proves that the ergodic cell capacity is concave function with respect to the numbers of BS antennas and users, and derives the optimum numbers of BS antennas and users maximizing ergodic cell capacity. From the simulation results, it is shown that the derived numbers of BS antennas and users has the optimum value for the maximum ergodic cell capacity, and the ergodic cell capacity with the derived optimum values increases with respect to the transmit SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio).

  • As the wireless communication technique is developing rapidly, the use of smart devices is increasing. Due to gradually increasing data traffic, a new area, more than 6GHz of bandwidth to increase capacity of the network, has been studied. Millimeter Wave(MmWave) communications utilizes the bandwidth above 6GHz, which makes it possible to achieve one gigabit per second data rate. To overcome the path loss due to the smaller wavelength, the mass of the antenna arrangement is used. This paper presents an algorithm that maximizes the spectral efficiency of the system in the pre-coding process using a hybrid beamforming. Also it is suggested with the optimization of the number of beams that maximizes the spectral efficiency was maximized by the propose method.

Coverage Evaluation of mmWave Small Cell in Outdoor Environment (실외환경에서 밀리미터파 소형 셀의 커버리지 측정)

  • In an effort to compensate the rising of the data throughput demand nowadays, there have been many research works to optimize the radio resource and increase the capacity of the network. At the present, small cell network, mmWave band and beamforming technology are leading the trend and becoming the core solutions of the fifth generation (5G) cellular networks. Since the propagation characteristics of radio wave in the mmWave band is quite different from the conventional bands, the communication systems which work in these bands have to be redesigned. In this paper, a 3D simulation model is discussed for cellular network at 60 GHz in outdoor environments. Coverage analysis and system performance is carried out for a small cell system in the typical urban environment including street canyon simulation scenario. In addition, the beamforming technique is considered to evaluate the throughput improvement. Simulation results show that the mmWave small cell systems is expected to be one of the major candidate technologies to satisfy the requirements of 5G in terms of data rate.

Determination and Performance Evaluation of Codevectors Utilizing Phase Difference Distribution Characteristics of Circular Antenna Arrays (원형 안테나 배열의 위상 차이 분포 특성을 활용한 코드벡터 결정 방식 및 성능 평가)

  • Current mobile communication systems utilize the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission technique as an important means to enhance the bandwidth efficiency. Accurate beamforming via channel estimation contributes to the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) increase and the system performance improvement when MIMO transmission techniques are employed. Therefore, determination of beamforming vectors as well as the design of appropriate codebooks defining these codevectors play an important role in system operation. In this paper, we statistically analyze the phase difference between the channels corresponding to adjacent antenna elements in order to design an efficient codebook for uniform circular arrays (UCAs). We introduce new parameters which compensate for the additional phase difference observed in its probability density functions (PDFs). The performance of the proposed codebook is tested using the spatial channel model (SCM) to demonstrate its gain over the standard codebooks adopted in the long term evolution (LTE) Releases 8 and 10.

The Measurement of Fading Characteristics of The Beamforming on Mobile ad-hoc Channel Environments (이동 ad-hoc채널에서 빔 형성 방식의 페이딩 특성 측정)

  • In mobile channel environments, the effect of the multi-path fading reduces the performance of the mobile communication severely. Previous studies on the effect of the multi-path fading show that, only the channel between fixed base stations and mobile terminals are considered. However, the future mobile communication service such as telematics may use the communication between moving mobile terminals, so called mobile ad-hoc communication, the studies on the channel is required for such situations. In this paper we have measured the mobile channel and analyzed the fading characteristics when using the linear array antennas. In the data measurements, we sent the QPSK modulated signal with carrier frequency of 2GHz band and received the signal using the array antennas equipped on moving vehicles. We have analyzed the fading characteristics and the effects of the fading reduction using the CDF of fading depth using data collected from two moving vehicles. The simulation results show that the beamforming technique adds 6 or 7dB to the fading margin than that of the selection diversity depending on channel environments.

  • In this paper, Inter user interference elimination algorithm based on Block Diagonal Geometric Mean Decomposition(BD-GMD) for eliminating inter user interference apply to Zero-Forcing in the Successive Signal to Leakage plus Noise Ratio(SSLNR) in Coordinated Multi-Point Coordinated Beamforming system(CoMP CB). As a result, the leakage power is eliminated. The inter user interference elimination algorithm, however, cannot guarantee the enough desired signal power therefore we perform the channel ordering to overcome this disadvantage and increase the desired signal power. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme provides the improved Bit Error Rate(BER) performance compared with existing SSLNR-Zero-Forcing-Tomlinson Harashima precoding(SSLNR-ZF-THP).

  • 본 논문에서는, 다중송수신안테나 직교주파수분할다중화 (MIMO-OFDM) 시스템에서 심볼 기반 빔포밍을 위한 제한 피드백 기법을 고려하였다. 공간적 상관도가 존재하는 다중전달경로 채널에서, 심볼 기반 빔포밍을 위한 제한 피드백 기법과 코드북을 제안하였다. 모의실험 결과를 통해 제안한 기법이 낮은 복잡도를 가짐에도 불구하고 기존의 iterative 알고리즘을 기반으로 하는 심볼 기반 빔포밍을 이용한 제한 피드백 기법보다 우수한 성능을 보임을 확인하였다. 또한, 제안한 코드북이 랜덤 벡터 양자화 코드북보다 우수한 성능을 보임을 확인하였다.

  • 본 논문은 수평적 시공간 부호화 기법(Horizontal Space-Time Coding)과 송수신단에 별도의 빔형성 기법을 결합한 JBSTC(Joint Beamforming Space-Time Coding) 구조에 대한 제안 및 동작원리를 기술하고 성능을 분석하였다. JBSTC는 MIMO(Multi-Input Multi-Output) 송수신 시스템 채널 모델링을 기반으로 송신측 안테나간 상호 상관 행렬과 수신측 안테나간 상호 상관 행렬을 이용하여 송수신 빔형성기의 안테나 가중치들을 계산한다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 JBSTC 방식은 송수신단에서 발생하는 안테나 간격과 각퍼짐에 따른 상호 상관 값을 효과적으로 보정함으로써 기존의 수평적 시공간 부호화 기법보다 우수함을 알 수 있다.

Performance Evaluation of Beamformer for STBC-OFDM Systems (STBC-OFDM 시스템에서 빔형성 기법의 성능평가)

  • Recently, in order to improve high speed data transmission and spectral efficiency in wireless communication systems, the study on the combination OFDM and space-time coding is active. Also, a solution to improve system capacity in multiuser systems is to use adaptive antennas. In a system using STBC, the signals transmitted from two transmit antennas are superposed at the receive antenna and the interference between two transmit antennas of a user occures. Thus it is difficult to apply the conventional beamforming techniques for single antenna to the systems using space-time coding. In this Paper, we present the MMSE beanforming technique using training sequence for STBC-OFDM systems in reverse link and evaluate the performance by using various parameters in TU and HT channels.
