The box system that is composed only of reinforced concrete walls and slabs we adopted on many high-rise apartment buildings recently constructed in Korea. And the framed structure with shear wall core that can effectively resist horizontal forces is frequently adopted for the structural system for high-rise building structures. In these structures, a shear wall may have one or more openings for functional reasons. It is necessary to use subdivided finite elements for accurate analysis of the shear wall with openings. But it would take significant amount of computational time and memory if the entire building structure is subdivided into a finer mesh. An efficient analysis method that can be used regardless of the number, size and location of openings is proposed in this study. The analysis method uses super element, substructure, matrix condensation technique and fictitious beam technique. Three-dimensional analyses of the box system and the framed structure with shear wall core having various types of openings were performed to verify the efficiency of the proposed method. It was confirmed that the proposed method have outstanding accuracy with drastically reduced time and computer memory from the analyses of example structures.

Investigating the impact of openings on the structural behavior of ferrocement I-beams with two distinct types of reinforcing metallic and non-metallic meshes is the primary goal of the current study. Up until failure, eight 250x200x2200 mm reinforced concrete I-beams were tested under flexural loadings. Depending on the kind of meshes used for reinforcement, the beams are split into two series. A control I-beam with no openings and three beams with one, two, and three openings, respectively, are found in each series. The two series are reinforced with three layers of welded steel meshes and two layers of tensar meshes, respectively, in order to maintain a constant reinforcement ratio. Structural parameters of investigated beams, including first crack, ultimate load, deflection, ductility index, energy absorption, strain characteristics, crack pattern, and failure mode were reported. The number of mesh layers, the volume fraction of reinforcement, and the kind of reinforcing materials are the primary factors that vary. This article presents the outcomes of a study that examined the experimental and numerical performance of ferrocement reinforced concrete I-beams with and without openings reinforced with welded steel mesh and tensar mesh separately. Utilizing ANSYS-16.0 software, nonlinear finite element analysis (NLFEA) was applied to illustrate how composite RC I-beams with openings behaved. In addition, a parametric study is conducted to explore the variables that can most significantly impact the mechanical behavior of the proposed model, such as the number of openings. The FE simulations produced an acceptable degree of experimental value estimation, as demonstrated by the obtained experimental and numerical results. It is also noteworthy to demonstrate that the strength gained by specimens without openings reinforced with tensar meshes was, on average, 22% less than that of specimens reinforced with welded steel meshes. For specimens with openings, this value is become on average 10%.

In this paper, transverse shear spacing and effective depth of wide beams were considered as parameters to evaluate the shear capacity of wide beam according to transverse spacing of steel plates with openings in experimental way. The eight specimens were composed of: five specimens of shear reinforced by steel plates with openings and three non-reinforced specimens. Crack, failure mode, strain and load-displacement curve of specimens were analysed. Shear contribution of shear reinforcement is evaluated and maximum transverse spacing of shear reinforcement was proposed. Shear strength of the specimen that reinforced with three stirrup legs was higher than shear strength of the specimen that reinforced with two stirrup legs. And as the effective depth increased, shear strength was increased.
A total of nine H-shaped beams with web openings under cyclic loading condition were investigated. The dimension criteria are based on the formulae proposed by Darwin. The suitability of existing design formulae the effects of plastic hinge on beams with web openings the fracture around the web openings and the influence of cracks neighboring web openings to the beam strength under cyclic loading were also investigated through the observation of the behavior of these beams with various opening dimensions. locations numbers and spacing between the two openings.

Since wall system apartment used the shear wall as main lateral resistance member, installation of openings which causing section loss of walls may cause significant problem to structure. Also, there are few studies for inducing coupling beam or slabs which are occurred by installing openings. Therefore, this study planned isolated 2-story shear walls which are reduced three half-scale specimen to find out walls behavior characteristic. The test results showed that strength reduction caused by loss of effective section of walls and different result of stiffness and energy dissipation regarding to the coupling beam and coupling slabs.

In this paper, shear performance of concrete wide beams was evaluated through shear failure tests. The specimens were designed to have two continuous spans with a column at the center of the wide beam. Also the specimens were reinforced with plates with openings as shear reinforcements. For the test, total eight specimens, including five specimens were reinforced with steel plates and the other three specimens were reinforced with GFRP plates were manufactured. And the shear strengths obtained from the tests were compared with ones from the equation provided by ACI 318. Support width of wide beam, support section of wide beam and shear reinforcement material were considered as variables. The results showed that the support width was proportional to the increase of shear strength. Also, regardless of material type of shear reinforcement, the shear reinforcing effect was similar when the amount of shear reinforcement was the same.
Cold-formed steel (CFS) I sections are increasingly being used as load-bearing components in building constructions, and such I sections frequently incorporate web holes to facilitate service installation. The economical and structural advantages of these elements have prompted many researchers to investigate the behavior of such structures. Despite numerous studies on the buckling stability of castellated beams, there is a notable absence of experimental investigation into oval castellated beams with stiffeners. This study examines the local buckling of cold-formed steel castellated I-beams stiffened with oval constellations through experimental and numerical analysis. Four specimens are fabricated with and without stiffeners, including parallel, perpendicular, and intersecting types attached to the web portion of the beam, along with cross stiffeners for the oval-shaped openings at the beam ends. Additionally, a numerical model is developed to predict the behavior of castellated beams with oval openings up to failure, considering both material and geometric nonlinearities. Codal analysis is performed using the North American specification for cold-formed steel AISI S-100 and the Australian/New Zealand design code AS/NZS 4600. The anticipated outcomes from numerical analysis, experimental research, and codal analysis are compared and presented. It will be more helpful to the preliminary designers.

Castellated beams fabricated from standard I-sections are being used for several structural applications such as commercial and industrial buildings, multistory buildings, warehouses and portal frames in view of numerous advantages. The advantages include enhanced moment of inertia, stiffness, flexural resistance, reduction in weight of structure, by passing the used plate girders, the passage of service through the web openings etc. In the present study, experimental and numerical investigations were carried out on concrete encased steel castellated beams with hexagonal openings under flexural loading. Various positions of openings such as along the neutral axis, above the neutral axis and below the neutral axis were considered for the study. From the experimental findings, it has been observed that the load-carrying capacity of the castellated beam with web opening above neutral axis is found to be higher compared to other configurations. Nonlinear finite element analysis was performed by using general purpose finite element software ABAQUS considering the material nonlinearities. Concrete damage plasticity model was employed to model the nonlinearity of concrete and elasto-plastic model for steel. It has been observed that FE model could able to capture the behaviour of concrete encased steel castellated beams and the predicted values are in good agreement with the corresponding experimental values.
