페광산 복구지역 잔류장미로 인한 주변 지하수${\cdot}$토양 오염가능성-시흥광산 사례 (Potential Contamination of Soil and Groundwater from the Residual Mine Tailings in the Restored Abandoned Mine Area : Shihung Mine Area)

  • 시흥광산은 1973년 폐장되었으며 1990년 초에 선광장 및 광미야적장에 있던 광미들을 제거한 후 그 자리에 소각장을 건설하는 폐광 복원사업을 실시하였다. 그러나 현재에도 광미가 완전히 제거되지 않았으며 광산 가동기간동안 많은 양의 광미가 주변 토양 및 논으로 이동, 퇴적된 것이 확인되는 바 광미와 물 반응으로 인한 침출수 형성과 주변 지하수 토양의 중금속 오염이 예상된다. 된 연구는 잔류광미와 물 반응에 따른 광산배수의 지구화학적 진화과정을 분석하고 주변 지하수 · 토양 오염 가능성을 평가하고자 하였다. 광미에서 추출한 공극수는 깊이에 따라 그 농도가 증가함을 보여 광미-불 반응을 통하여 지속적으로 중금속이 용출됨을 시사한다. 광미 중금속 용출은 공극수뿐 아니라 표면과 심부에서 각자 채취한 광미시료들간의 화학성분 차이에서도 확인된다. 광산 배수 기원지역과 하부 지역의 지하수 시료를 거리에 따라 채취, 분석한 결과 Cd, Pb 및 Zn 등은 국내 및 미국환경청 음용수 기준을 초과하며 광산배수의 영향을 받은 결과로 해석된다. 실내 회분식 시험 결과 원소들은 농도가 급격히 감소하는 것과 비교적 일정한 농도를 보이는 두 가지 양상을 보였으며 이는 일부 원소들이 평형농도에 도달하고 있기 때문으로 생각된다 회분식 시험에 사용한 증류수의 평균 pH는 6.5∼7.0의 범위로 이를 pH 4로 조정한 결과 원소들의 용출량이 급격히 증가하였다. 본 지역의 잔류광미는 지속적으로 주변의 지하수와 토양을 오염시킬 것으로 판단되며 이는 산성비등의 영향으로 인하여 급격히 증가할 것이다.

사질토양에서의 Benzene의 이동성에 관한 연구 (Transport and Fate of Benzene in a Sandy Soil)

  • 토립자 표면에서의 흡착에 의한 토양에서의 탄화수소계 화합물의 지연효과는 잘 알려진 현상이다. 본 연구에서는 배치시험과 주상시험을 수행함으로써 사질토양에서 Benzene의 이동성에 대한 지연효과를 조사하였다. 배치시험을 위하여 토양시료와 다양한 초기농도의 Benzene 용액을 48시간 반응시켰고. 초기용액과 평행상태의 Benzene 용액의 농도를 HPLC를 이용하여 분석하였다. 주상시험은 파괴곡선으로 알려진 시간에 따른 용액의 농도를 측정함으로써 수행되었다. 추적자로는 10 g/L 농도의 KCI과 0.88 g/L의 Benzene 용액을 사용하였고 .각각의 용액을 토양시료의 상부경계면에 순간주입한 후 정상류 상태에서 배출구로 빠져나온 용탈수의 농도를 EC-meter와 HPLC를 이용하여 측정하였다. 배치시험의 결과로부터 linear adsorption isotherm에 의한 분배계수가 측정되었고 주상시험 조건의 용적밀도 및 함수율을 고려한 지연계수가 산정되었다. 주상시험의 결과 i) Benzene의 첨두농도는 KCl 첨두농도보다 상당히 낮았으나. ⅱ) 첨도농도의 도달시간은 거의 일치하였다. 첨두농도의 도달시간이 일치한다는 결과는 지연효과가 일어나지 않았다는 것을 지시하며, 배치시험의 결과로부터 산정된 지연계수를 고려하여 예측된 파과곡선은 Benzene의 주상시험 결과와 일치하지 않았다. Benzene 농도의 뚜렷한 감소를 설명할 수 있는 유일한 방법은 convection-dispersion equation(CDE) 모델에서 비가역 흡착에 의한 농도의 절대적 감소를 고려하는 감쇄계수(decay or sink coefficient)를 적용해야 하는 것으로 판단된다.

오리의 Pasteurella anatipestifer 감염증 발생 (Pasteurella anatipestifer infection in ducklings in Korea)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the cause of a new duck disease occured in southern part of Korea. A meat type duck farm located in Kangjin, Chonnam Province had experienced outbreaks of septicemic disease at around 20 days of age in nearly every batch of ducklings from early spring to early summer in 1989. Main symptoms of the birds were eye and nasal discharge, depression, inappetence, diarrhea and nervous signs such as tremor and ataxia. Some birds died suddenly without any signs. Mortality reached from 20% to 80% in severe cases. The autopsy findings of the affected ducklings revealed consistantly severe airsacculitis, fibropericarditis, perihepatitis and occasionaly enteritis and distended ureter with urate deposit. A rod shaped gram-negative bacterium was isolated purely from brain and liver of the diseased ducks by culturing the specimens on blood agar for 48 hours in candle jar. The isolate neither produced hemolysis nor grew on MacConKey Agar. It formed colony relatively slowly being recognizable at least 36 hours after culturing, reaching colony size of about 1mm in diameter at 48 hours culture. The colony looked iridescent under oblique light and had muddy odor. The isolate did not ferment carbohydrates tested but produced gelatinase, hippuricase and oxidase which were considered as characteristics of P anatipestifer. The isolate induced similar signs and lesions when infected experimentally into ducks of 3 to 38 days age via intraperitoneum or intratrachea. However it did not produce any clinical signs wen inoculated via intranasal route. It produced only mild signs in chicken just injected with a very large dose. The bacteria did not produce any signas or lesions in mice. It was concluded through biochemical and physiological tests and animal inoculation tests that the new disease was caused by P anatipestifer.

응집침전에 의한 제철공장 냉각수질향상 (Improvement of Cooling Water Quality by Coagulation and Sedimentation in Steel Mill)

  • This study was initiated to improve the cooling water quality by chemical coagulation and sedimentation in steel mills. Due to the inefficient flocculation in the settling tanks of blast furnace cooling water systems, the solid particles in the cooling water overflow accumulate and clog the cooling system. To protect the cooling water system from such fouling, proper flocculants must be continuously used. Laboratory tests were performed for the indirect cooling water system of a plate mill. The batch test in the gas scrubbing cooling water system of a blast furnace showed that the proposed coagulant was more effective for the improvement of coagulation and sedimentation than the existing one. During the tests, cationic flocculants were more effective than use of only an anionic flocculant. The suggested combination of anionic and cationic flocculants can probably improve the turbidity removal efficiency of the cooling water. Proper control of the overflow rate by the designed residence time would help turbidity removal efficiency in the settling tank. In addition, the settling can be enhanced by adopting rapid and slow mixing alternatively. Scale problems in blast furnace cooling water system were reduced to some extent by efficient settling.

플라이애쉬를 이용하여 제조된 인공정량골재를 이용한 황화수소의 제거 연구 (Removal of Hydrogen Sulfide Using Porous Artificial Aggregates Made by Coal Fly-Ash)

  • 본 연구에서는 산업폐기물인 플라이애쉬를 이용하여 악취물질인 황화수소를 효과적으로 제거하기 위해 입자형태로 제조하여 다양한 실험조건 하에서 제거효과를 관찰하였다. 입자형태로 제조하기 위한 최적조건을 선정하기 위해 플라이애쉬 함량, 시멘트 함량, 함수비, 발포제의 양을 변화시켜 공시체를 제조하였으며, 각 공시체에 대해 비중, 흡수율, 압축강도의 값을 측정하였다. 이들 측정값과 실험 시 편의사항을 고려하여 악취제거 실험에 사용될 시료를 선정하였으며, 회분식 및 컬럼실험을 통해 황화수소의 제거양상을 측정하였다. 본 연구조건 하에서의 황화수소 제거율은 사용된 플라이애쉬 입자의 양과 정비례의 관계를 보여주었으며, 수분 첨가 시 황화수소 제거율이 증가하는 것을 확인하였다.

Evaluation of the Degradation of Carbohydrate-based Material During Anaerobic Digestion for High-efficiency Biogas Production

  • Purpose: In this study, the potential for biogas production, degradation rates, and lag-phase of diauxic growth of carbohydrate-based material, which is one of the proximate compositions, were investigated. Methods: This study was conducted using starch as a carbohydrate-based material. In experimental condition 1, the biogas potential of carbohydrate-based material was measured. In experimental condition 2, the effect of feed to microorganism ratio (F/M ratio) on lag-phase of diauxic growth from carbohydrate-based material was tested. Biochemical methane potential tests were performed at five different feed to microorganism ratios (0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, and 1.0) under mesophilic conditions. The biogas production patterns, lag-phase, total volatile fatty acids to total alkalinity ratio (TVFA/TA ratio), and time required for 90 percent biogas production were used to evaluate biogas production based on the biochemical methane potential tests. Results: In experimental condition 1, unlike previous studies, biogas was produced in the TVFA/TA ratio ranging from 1.131 to 2.029 (approximately 13-19 days). The methane content in the biogas produced from the digesters was 7% on day 9 and increased rapidly until approximately day 27 (approximately 72%). In experimental condition 2, biogas yield was improved when the feed to microorganism ratio exceeded 0.6, with an initial lag-phase. Conclusions: Even if the TVFA/TA ratio was greater than 1.0, the biogas production was processed continuously, and the $CO_2$ content of the biogas production was as high as 60%. The biogas yield was improved when the F/M ratio was increased more than 0.6, but the lag-phase of carbohydrate-based material digestion became longer starting with high organic loading rate. To clarify the problem of the initial lag-phase, our future study will examine the microbial mechanisms during anaerobic digestion.

산업부산물을 이용한 오염농경지 복원을 위한 현장실증시험 적용 (Pilot-test for the Restoratoin of Contaminated Farmland using Industrial By-products)

  • This present was carried out to evaluate the adaptability of stabilization method which was used industrial byproducts as the stabilization agency in the abandoned mine site. In order to investigate stabilization effect on As-contaminated soils treated by industrial by-products, batch tests and column tests were carried out with As-contaminated soils collected from farmland around the abandoned mine site. ZVI(zero valent iron) and SRS(steel refining slag) was shown a good treatment effect. After the column test, sequential extraction test and simple bioavailability extraction test(SBET) were carried out to analysis of the soil, and scanning electron micrograph(SEM) analysis was carried out to compare the morphology and structure of ZVI and SRS before and after reacting with arsenic in the soil. As a result, ZVI and SRS were shown 93%, 62% reduction of As concentration respectively by comparison with untreated soils. Therefore, if ZVI and SRS are used as treatment materials in As-contaminated soils, it is expected that the As leaching from soils is reduced effectively.

마이크로웨이브를 이용한 잉여 슬러지 가온과 인산염 방출 (Phosphorus Release from Waste Activated Sludge by Microwave Heating)

  • A chemical batch tests were conducted to evaluate if microwave heating enhances phosphorous release from waste activated sludge (WAS) at pH 2.5, 5, 7, 9 and 11. Polyphosphate-accumulating organisms have a unique physiological feature, which releases intracellular polyphosphate granules when they are exposed under high temperature environments. Microwave irradiation was found to encourage large amount of phosphorus release from WAS, depending on pH and temperature conditions. Most of phosphorus was released below $59^{\circ}C$ within 30 min. A marked increase in phosphorus release was observed under alkaline or acidic conditions. However, based on control tests for phosphorus release under different pH conditions without microwave heating, the largest amount of phosphorus released by microwave irradiation was found at pH 7, followed by 5, 9, 11. On the other hand, crystallization was conducted to obtain magnesium ammonium phosphate (MAP) from phosphate released by microwave heating at pH 7. X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed that the recovered crystalline materials were MAP. MAP is an environmentally friendly fertilizer, which slowly releases ammonia and phosphorus in response to the demand of plant root. Thus, the recovered MAP as a phosphate fertilizer is fully expected to play a important role in the reduction of agricultural non-point pollution.

크로스홀 탄성파 시험을 이용한 쇄석다짐말뚝의 시공직경 검측 (Logging for Diametric Variation of Granular Compaction Pile Using Crosshole Seismic Tests)

  • Stone columns, locally called "GCP (granular compaction pile)" can be used to improve strength and resistance against lateral movement of a foundation soil like rigid piles and piers. Also installation of such a discrete column facilitates drainage, and densifies and reinforces the soil in the sense of ground improvement. The integrity of the GCP has been indirectly controlled with the records of each batch including depth and the quantity of stone filled. An integrity testing was attempted using crosshole S-wave logging. The method is conceptionally same as the crosshole sonic logging (CSL) for drilled piers. The only and critical difference is that S-wave should be used in the logging, because P-wave velocity of the stone column is less than that of ground water. The crosshole sonic logger does not have the capability to measure S-wave propagating through the skeleton of crushed stone. An electro-mechanical source, which can generate either P- or SH-waves, and a 1-D geophone were used to measure SH-waves. Two 76mm diameter cased boreholes were installed 1 meter apart across the nominal 700mm diameter stone column. At every 10cm of depth, shear wave was measured across the stone column. One more borehole was also installed 1 meter outward from the one of the above boreholes to measure the shear wave profile of the surrounding soil. The diametric variation of the stone column with respect to depth was evaluated from the shear wave arrival times across the stone column, and shear wave velocities of crushed stone and surrounding soil. The volume calculated with these variational diameters is very close to the actual quantity of the stone filled.

혼합영양 배양조건에서의 Anabena 배양을 위한 유기탄소(acetate 종류 및 농도) 선정 연구 (Selection of Organic Carbon (Different Form of Acetate Compounds and Concentration) for Cultivation of Anabena under Mixotrophic Cultivation Mode)

  • 본 연구는 혼합영양 배양 조건에서 acetate의 주입이 Anabena azollae의 성장에 미치는 영향을 파악하기 위해 수행되었다. 4가지 종류의 acetate 중 ethyle acetate가 Anabena azollae의 성장에 가장 효과적이라고 밝혀졌으며, 주입한 ethyle acetate의 농도가 증가할수록 성장속도는 증가하는 것을 확인하였다. 40 mM의 ethyl acetate의 경우 비성장속도는 $0.979day^{-1}$, 최대바이오매스 생산성은 $0.293g\;L^{-1}\;d^{-1}$로 본 연구에서 배양속도가 가장 빠른 것으로 판명되었다. Acetic acid와 butyl acetate의 경우 Anabena azollae 성장을 방해하는 것으로 나타났다. Aetration의 경우 0.54 vvm에서 성장속도가 가장 빨랐다. 반연속배양에서는 aeration 실험이 끝난 후 연속하여 ethyle acetate 주입을 하여 배양을 하였다. 회분식실험에 비해 반연속배양에서의 비성장속도와 최대바이오매스 생산성은 모두 감소하였지만 최대 농도는 5.91 g/L로 가장 큰 값을 나타내었다.
