In this study, adhesion and transport of bacteria in positively-charged media was investigated with batch and column experiments. Bacterial species used in this study was Escherichia coli ATCC 11105(length: 2.2 ${\mu}m$, diameter: 0.6 ${\mu}m$) and media used were quartz sand(particle size distribution: 0.5-2.0 mm, mean diameter: 1.0 mm) and iron-coated sand. Batch results indicate that bacterial adhesion increased as the content of iron-coated media increased. At iron-coated media 0%(quartz sand 100%), around 46% of bacteria was adhered to media while at iron-coated media 100%(quartz sand 0%) about 97% was attached. Column results also show that bacterial adhesion was enhanced with an increase of iron-coated media content. As the iron-coated media content increased from 0 to 100%, bacterial adhesion increased from 8 to 94%. The experimental results demonstrate that positively-charged media could influence transport of bacteria in porous media.

A conceptual design study for a pyroprocesing facility, has been carried out in this study, which is available for the recovery of uranium and transuranic elemental group(TRU), that is, reusable as a nuclear fuel especially in a next generation-type reactor. The scale of this facility has been chosen as 20 kg HM/batch, comparatively small engineering size in order to collect scale-up data for the design of a commercial facility as well as to get operational experience. The spent fuel to be handled in this process is as follows : 3.5 % enriched uranium fuel, 35,000MWd/tU and 5-year cooled. The major items considered in the conceptual study are a building lay-out including various hot cells, safety management of the process operation in conjunction with material balance control, radiation safety, inert atmosphere control in shielded hot cells, and criticality control of uranium and TRU products.
The production of exopolysaccharide from Zoogloea ramigera 115SLR in batch culture was affected by carbon sources, rifampicin concentration, inoculum size and cell density of starter culture. The increase of organic nitrogen concentration and cell density in defined medium by adding starter culture resulted in higher production of exopolysaccharide (EPS) within 2 days. Glucose and lactose as carbon sources showed EPS production of 10.7 gk and 10.5 ga, respectively. Higher EPS production was obtained with 2.5% (w/v) glucose. White sugar, brown sugar and galactose produced less than 10 gt of EPS. The optical density of starter culture affected on EPS yield, producing over 10 gt of EPS in the range of 1.0-1.7. In the presence of rifsmpicin, Z. ramigera 115SLR produced EPS of 12.9 gt. Molecular weight of EPS produced with/without rifampicin was determined with 1.367$\times$106 and 1.711$\times$106 g/mol using HPSEC-MALLS-RI, respectively.

In the present study, bioethanol was produced using batch style reactor from food wastes which has organic characteristics. Pretreatment was required to reduce its particle size and produce fermentable sugar. Two different enzymes such as carbohydrase and gulcoamylase were tested for saccharification of food waste. The efficiency of carbohydrase saccharification (0.63 g/g-TS) has shown higher than glucoamylase saccharification(0.42 g/g-TS). Saccharomyces cerevisiae produced bioethanol via separate hydrolysis & fermentation (SHF) method and simultaneous saccharification fermentation (SSF) method. The production amount of bioethanol was 0.27 g/$L{\cdot}hr$ for SHF and 0.44 g/$L{\cdot}hr$ for SSF.
Lactococcus lactis SA72 from Jeot-gal (Korean traditional fermented fish foods) produces lacticin SA72. The influence of several parameters on the fermentative production of lacticin SA72 by Lactococcus lactis SA72 was studied. MRS medium among several media was selected for enhanced bacteriocin production. The mean growth rate and bacteriocin productivity of L. lactis SA72 increased as the initial pH of the media increases. The highest lacticin SA72 activity was detected 3,200 AU/ml at pH 6.0, $32^{\circ}C$, and 1% (inoculum size, v/v) in the jar fermenter. Enhanced production of lacticin SA72 was investigated by a fed-batch cultivation with the intermittent feeding of the concentrated glucose solution. Under the optimized conditions, lacticin SA72 activity finally reached to 6,400 AU/ml.

In our country, limiting nutrient is known as phosphorus in the most lakes. Therefore, the removal of phosphorus is a very important process in sewage treatment. However, many of the sewage treatment plants employ the conventional activated sludge process, known to remove $10{\sim}30%$ of phosphorus. Thus, additional phosphorous removal process will be needed. Oyster shells have been known to remove phosphorus in water. The removal efficiency of phosphorus was highest at smallest size of oyster shells and at the highest pH for batch test. The phosphorous removal rate with various calcium concentrations was increased by increasing calcium concentration. At the 20 mg/l of calcium, more than 90% of phosphorous was removed in two hours. The removal efficiency of phosphorous was increased greatly at 300% of recirculation rate. With 300% of recirculation rate, the removal efficiency reached 80% at pH 11. The negative effects of bicarbonate on crystallization were observed in oyster shells. The effects of bicarbonate on rate constant were also investigated by applying these results to experimental equation. The rate constant was decreased at the inverse logarithm bicarbonate concentration.
The objective of this study was to scrutinize the rationale of SUPAC-MR and its application in processing postapproval changes to modified release solid oral dosage forms. The types of postapproval changes that were primarily covered with SUPAC-MR included variations in the components and composition, the site of manufacturing, batch size, manufacturing equipment, and manufacturing process. SUPAC-MR defined levels of postapproval changes that the industry might make. Classification of such categories was based on the likelihood of risk occurrence and potential impact of changes upon the safety and efficacy of approved drug products. In most cases, the changes could be classified into 3 levels. It described what chemistry, manufacturing, and control tests should be conducted for each change level. The important tests specified in SUPAC-MR were batch release, stability, in vitro dissolution, and in vivo bioequivalence tests. It then suggested what type of a filing report should be submitted to the FDA for each change level. In general, level 1 changes could be reported in an annual report, whereas level 2 and/or 3 changes could be submitted in changes-being-effected or prior approval supplements. It could be understood that the purpose of SUPAC-MR was to maintain the safety and quality of approved modified release solid oral dosage forms undergoing certain changes. At the same time, it contributed to providing a less burdensome regulatory process with the manufacturers when they wanted to make postapproval changes. European regulatory agencies also implemented SUPAC-like regulations in handling such changes to drug products. Therefore, in this study a recommendation was made for KFDA and the Korean industry to evaluate thoroughly the usefulness of these guidances and regulations in dealing with postapproval changes to modified release solid oral dosage forms.

Human papillomavirus (HPV), a non-enveloped, double-stranded DNA tumor virus, is a primary etiological agent of cervical cancer development. As a potential tool for prophylactic vaccination, the development of virus-like particles (VLPs) containing the HPV16 L1 capsid protein is highly desired. In this study, we developed a high-level expression system of the HPV16 L1 in Escherichia coli for the purpose of VLP development. The native gene of HPV16 L1 has many rare codons that cause the early termination of translation and result in the production of truncated forms. First, we optimized the codon of the HPV16 L1 gene to the preferable codons of E. coli, and we succeeded in producing the full-size HPV16 L1 protein without early termination. Next, to find the best host for the production of HPV16 L1, we examined a total of eight E. coli strains, and E. coli BL21(DE3) with the highest yield among the strains was selected. With the selected host-vector system, we did a fed-batch cultivation in a lab-scale bioreactor. Two different feeding solutions (complex and defined feeding solutions) were examined and, when the complex feeding solution was used, a 6-fold higher production yield (4.6 g/l) was obtained compared with that with the defined feeding solution.

Effects of temperature, volatile content, particle diameter and solid input weight were investigated in the batch fluidized bed reactor using OCN703-1100 particle as oxygen carrier and Roto coal and char as fuels. Two solid fuels represented the best reactivity at different temperature, $900^{\circ}C$ for Roto coal and $950^{\circ}C$ for char, respectively. However, we selected $900^{\circ}C$ as the best operating temperature because the improvement of reactivity of char at $950^{\circ}C$ was negligible. Char represented better reactivity than Roto coal because char contains low volatile than Roto coal. For both solid fuels, reactivities were improved with increasing of the particle diameter. These results were explained by solid mixing tests in a transparent fluidized bed using two char particles having different particle size ranges and OCN703-1100 particle. The bigger particle showed better solid mixing with OCN703-1100 particle, and therefore, represented better reactivity. For both solid fuels, reactivities were improved with increasing of the solid input weight within the experimental conditions of this study because the weight of coarse particles increased with the solid input weight increased, and therefore, these coarse particles can mix well with the oxygen carrier.
Zr-benzendicarboxylate structure, UiO-66 was prepared in 1-L batch scale by using a unique sonochemical-solvothermal combined synthesis method. The produced UiO-66 showed uniform particles of ca. $0.2{\mu}m$ in size with the BET surface area of $1,375m^2/g$ in high product yield (>95%). The UiO-66 showed 198 and 84 mg/g $CO_2$ adsorption capacity at 273 K and 298 K, respectively, with excellent $CO_2$ selectivity ($CO_2:N_2=32:1$) at ambient conditions. The isosteric heat of $CO_2$ adsorption varied from 33 to 25 kJ/mol as the adsorption progressed. The UiO-66 tested for xylene isomer separation in a liquid-phase batch mode confirmed preferential adsorption of the adsorbent for o-xylene over m-, and p-xylene.
