  • An algorithm for the Hill-Sliding Clustering (HSC) method was developed using the BASIC language for Apple II personal computer. It was designed for initialization of clusters from multivariate multimodal Gaussian data. Landsat multispectral imagery data of a Korean coastal area were used for its performance test. The test showed encouraging results.

  • This paper presents the design and implementation of a crypto processor, a special-purpose microprocessor optimized for the execution of cryptography algorithms. This crypto processor can be used fur various security applications such as storage devices, embedded systems, network routers, etc. The crypto processor consists of a 32-bit RISC processor block and a coprocessor block dedicated to the SEED and triple-DES (data encryption standard) symmetric key crypto (cryptography) algorithms. The crypto processor has been designed and fabricated as a single VLSI chip using 0.5 $\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS technology. To test and demonstrate the capabilities of this chip, a custom board providing real-time data security for a data storage device has been developed. Testing results show that the crypto processor operates correctly at a working frequency of 30MHz and a bandwidth o1240Mbps.

  • 1. Introduction Present study presents the basic concept of a Solid Freeform Fabrication System using a rapid prototyping procedure and optimal control for a transferring and accumulating system. And it developed a novel rapid prototyping process that can use ceramic or metal as well as polymer as a basic material. 2. Solid Freeform Fabrication System 2.1 Basic Theory A 3D CAD data of the model is converted to the 2D cross-section data of the slides. A ceramic or metal tape of thickness 0.5-1.5mm is cut by a laser beam with the cross-section data of the slide. A 3D model was obtained by transferring and accumulating the slides. The final product is manufactured by sin...

  • This study presents rational methods for probability-based estimates of basic design wind speeds in Korea and develops a risk-bases nation-wide map of design wind speeds. The paper examines the fitting of the Type-I extreme model to maximum yearly non-typhoon wind data from long-term records based on the conventional method and to maximum monthly nod-typhoon wind data from short-term records following Grigorin's approach. The paper also reviews the applicability of the method using short records of about 5 years. The basic design wind speeds for typhoon and non-typhoon wind at a station are made to be obtained from a mixed model which is given as a product of typhoon and non-typhoon extreme wind distributions. A practical method which is based on the fitting of the Type I model to records or typhoon and non-typhoon mixed wind data at a station is also preposed in this study.

  • In this paper, we introduce a new speech synthesis method for Japanese and Korean arbitrary sentences using the natural speech data-base. Also, application of this method to a CAI system is discussed. In our synthesis method, a basic sentence and basic accent-phrases are selected from the data-base against a target sentence. Factors for those selections are phrase dependency structure (separation degree), number of morae, type of accent and phonemic labels. The target pitch pattern and phonemic parameter series are generated using those selected basic units. As the pitch pattern is generated using patterns which are directly extracted form real speech, it is expected to be more natural than any other pattern which is estimated by any model. Until now, we have examined this method on Japanese sentence speech and affirmed that the synthetic sound preserves human-like features fairly well. Now we extend this method to Korean sentence speech synthesis. Further more, we are trying to apply this synthesis unit to a CAI system.

  • The use of the classification and regression tree (CART) methodology was studied in a quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) context on a data set consisting of the binding affinities of 39 imidazobenzodiazepines for the α1 benzodiazepine receptor. The 3-D structures of these compounds were optimized using HyperChem software with semiempirical AM1 optimization method. After optimization a set of 1481 zero-to three-dimentional descriptors was calculated for each molecule in the data set. The response (dependent variable) in the tree model consisted of the binding affinities of drugs. Three descriptors (two topological and one 3D-Morse descriptors) were applied in the final tree structure to describe the binding affinities. The mean relative error percent for the data set is 3.20%, compared with a previous model with mean relative error percent of 6.63%. To evaluate the predictive power of CART cross validation method was also performed.

  • In this paper, the Hydrologic Data Management System (HDMS) was developed for the efficient management of hydrologic data. The applicability of the system was demonstrated using the hydrologic data of study watershed located in the southwest from Suwon city MySQL 5.0, relational database management system, and MS Visual Basic 6.0 were used for the development of MS windows based HDMS. The primary components of the HDMS are data search system, data management system, and data analysis system. Data search and management systems provide basic functions for the efficient data search, storage, update and export. Data analysis system enables the users to get the further and diverse hydrologic statistical information from the stored data. Furthermore, the accuracy and quality of hydrologic data was analyzed and evaluated through data analysis system.

  • Objective: Data exchange, interoperability, and access as a service in healthcare information management systems (HIMS) is the basic need to provision health-services. Data existing in various HIMS not only differ in the basic underlying structure but also in data processing systems. Data interoperability can only be achieved when following a common structure or standard which is shareable such as semantics based structures. We propose web-enabler: A Hadoop MapReduce based distributed approach to transform the existing huge variety data in variety formats to a conformed and flexible ontological format that enables easy access to data, sharing, and providing various healthcare services. Results: For proof of concept, we present a case study of general patient record in conventional system to be enabled for analysis on the web by transforming to semantics based structure. Conclusion: This work achieves transformation of stale as well as future data to be web-enabled and easily available for analytics in healthcare systems.

  • In this paper, a case study of basic data science practice education for field teachers and pre-service teachers was studied. In this paper, for basic data science education, spreadsheet software was used as a data collection and analysis tool. After that, we trained on statistics for data processing, predictive hypothesis, and predictive model verification. In addition, an educational case for collecting and processing thousands of public big data and verifying the population prediction hypothesis and prediction model was proposed. A 34-hour, 17-week curriculum using a spreadsheet tool was presented with the contents of such basic education in data science. As a tool for data collection, processing, and analysis, unlike Python, spreadsheets do not have the burden of learning program- ming languages and data structures, and have the advantage of visually learning theories of processing and anal- ysis of qualitative and quantitative data. As a result of this educational case study, three predictive hypothesis test cases were presented and analyzed. First, quantitative public data were collected to verify the hypothesis of predicting the difference in the mean value for each group of the population. Second, by collecting qualitative public data, the hypothesis of predicting the association within the qualitative data of the population was verified. Third, by collecting quantitative public data, the regression prediction model was verified according to the hypothesis of correlation prediction within the quantitative data of the population. And through the satisfaction analysis of pre-service and field teachers, the effectiveness of this education case in data science education was analyzed.

  • This Letter proposes a scheme that supports a fast handover effectively in hierarchical mobile IPv6 networks (F-HMIPv6) by optimizing the associated data and control flows during the handover. By NS-2 simulation, we show that the proposed scheme can give better handover performance than a simple combination of existing schemes.
