  • We have conducted a V, I, J, and H surface photometry of a barred galaxy NGC 4314 to analyze the morphology and luminosity distribution of the galaxy. By applying a semi two-dimensional profile decomposition method, we derived the luminosity fractions and the scale lengths of the three distinct components, bulge, disk, and bar: $L_b {\approx}0.35,\;L_d{\approx}0.35,\;L_{bar}{\approx}0.30,\;r_e{\approx}22",\;r_o {\approx} 50"$, and a $\approx$ 60". The bulge of NGC 4314 seems to be triaxial due to the isophotal twists but its luminosity distribution is well approximated by the $r^{1/4}$-law.

  • Let λ be a partition with all distinct parts. In this paper we give a bijection between the set $\Gamma$$_{λ}$(X) of pairs (equation omitted) satisfying a certain condition and the set $\pi_{λ}$(X) of circled permutation tableaux of shape λ on the set X, where P$\frac{1}{2}$ is a tail circled shifted rim hook tableaux of shape λ and (equation omitted) is a barred permutation on X. Specializing to the partition λ with one part, this bijection gives a combinatorial proof of the Schur identity: $\Sigma$2$\ell$(type($\sigma$)) = 2n! summed over all permutation $\sigma$ $\in$ $S_{n}$ with type($\sigma$) $\in$ O $P_{n}$ . .

  • Many people criticized how the Chinese government responded to the Wenchuan Earthquake. They focused on how it failed to address the psychological needs of the survivors. The study presented here approached this issue from a human resources perspective. It was determined that the Chinese government approached the situation in a bureaucratic way that limited the government's capacity and barred non-profit organizations and community groups from participating. It was also found that survivors could not contact these organizations for psychological support. This study concludes that the situation called for a more flexible and improvised institution that would respond to the emerging needs of survivors.

  • This study proposes a coupled inductor method for the parallel operation of a power conditioning system (PCS). When primary and secondary currents flow in the same direction in a coupled inductor, total flux and inductance are cancelled; when currents flow in opposite directions, each flux becomes an individual inductor. These characteristics are applied in the parallel operation of a PCS. To connect at a grid code, abnormal current, which is barred under the grid connection code, is blocked by using a coupled inductor. A design based on the capacity and current duration time of a PCS is verified through hardware implementation. Experiment results show the effectiveness of variance reduction.

  • The middle diaphragm of box girder is to prevent the deformation of the cross section of box girder, to distribute load produced at upper flange onto the both sides of web. But if inner space of box girder is barred by the middle diaphragm, it is impossible to use in inner space of box girder and it is felt constraint on maintenance-management. The effect of middle diaphragm of box girder is intended to be expressed by the stiffness of diaphragm in comparing the diaphragm with opening of box girder with diaphragm without opening of box girder through the experiment.

  • The convergence rate of a numerical procedure barred on Schwarz Alternating Method (SAM) for solving elliptic boundary value problems (BVP's) depends on the selection of the interface conditions applied on the interior boundaries of the overlapping subdomains. It hee been observed that the Robin condition(mixed interface condition), controlled by a parameter, can optimize SAM's convergence rate. Since the convergence rate is very sensitive to the parameter, Tang[17] suggested another interface condition called over-determined interface condition. Based on the over-determined interface condition, we formulate the two-layer multi-parameterized SAM. For the SAM and the one-dimensional elliptic model BVP's, we determine analytically the optimal values of the parameters. For the two-dimensional elliptic BVP's , we also formulate the two-layer multi-parameterized SAM and suggest a choice of multi-parameter to produce good convergence rate .

  • It is now a well established fact that galaxies undergo significant morphological transformation during their lifetimes, manifesting as an evolution along the Hubble sequence from the late to the early Hubble types. The physical processes commonly believed to be responsible for this observed evolution trend, i.e. the major and minor mergers, as well as gas accretion under a barred potential, though demonstrated applicability to selected types of galaxies, on the whole have failed to reproduce the most important statistical and internal properties of galaxies. The secular evolution mechanism reviewed in this paper has the potential to overcome most of the known difficulties of the existing theories to provide a natural and coherent explanation of the properties of present day as well as high-redshift galaxies.

  • The purpose of this study was to classify consumers barred on satisfaction with electronic commerce and to understand group differences in personal and behavioral characteristics. An on-line survey among hitel users was conducted from August 5th through 14th of 1999 and 678 replies were analyzed. This study identified four groups of consumers based on satisfaction with electronic commerce. They were 'the generally satisfied'. 'the generally dissatisfied', 'the satisfied with e-commerce while dissatisfied with the Internet', and 'the dissatisfied with e-commerce while satisfied with the Internet'. Demographic and behavioral characteristics of the four groups were significantly different. Implications on consumer education, consumer policy, and customer services of e-business were discussed.

  • A workflow model is useful fur business process analysis and has often been implemented for office automation through information technology. Accordingly, the results of workflow modeling need to be systematically managed as information assets. In order to manage the modeling process effectively, it is necessary to enhance the efficiency of their reuse. Therefore, this paper creates a Document-barred Workflow Modeling Support System (DWMSS) using a case-based reasoning (CBR) approach. It proposes a system architecture, and the corresponding modeling process is developed. Furthermore, a repository, which consists of a case base and vocabulary base, is built. A carte study is illustrated to demonstrate the usefulness of th is system.

  • We investigate the dependence of star formation rate and Active Galaxy Nuclei (AGN) frequency on the bar properties, especially the bar strength, using SDSS DR6. To better represent the bar strength, we divided the bars into 6 classes according to their length and axial ratios. There seems to be a fairly good correlation between the star formation rate derived from $H{\alpha}$ emission lines and the bar strength, whereas there is no apparent correlation between the AGN activity and the bar strength. We interpret that the former correlation is due to the dependence of bar-driven gas inflow on the strength of bar. The lack of correlation between AGN and bar properties suggests that the accretion of gas onto a supermassive black hole (SMBH) is regulated by the interplay between the bar and SMBH. The frequency of AGN seems to be dependent on the background density but the star formation rate does not. It suggests that star formation is a localized phenomenon that is mostly determined by the gas density in a galaxy, while AGN activity is more closely related to the host property such as mass and luminosity that are thought to be dependent on the environment through the density-luminosity relation.
