  • In this paper, we propose a novel Proxy Mobile IPv6 network bandwidth-efficient handoff scheme. MN are classified into slow and fast one. At first MN should be registered in the microcell for bandwidth efficient handoff scheme. microcell is overlapped to handle the overflow session request which is nested. Overflow session request in macrocell requests to go back from the boundary of the microcell to new microcell. If idle session traffic is in a cell, it is requested by the target microcell. Analysis model was developed, an existing session of the session blocking probability and forcing termination probability of the session request have improved considerably. If the total traffic load of the system is not very large, the proposed scheme has the best bandwidth efficiency and provides better quality of service (QoS) to MN without costs of a lot of processing on the system.

  • Recursive Patching is an efficient multicast technique for large-scale video on demand systems and recursively shares existing video streams with asynchronous clients. When Recursive Patching initiates a transition stream, it always makes a transition stream have additional data for the worst future request. In order to share a VOD server's limited network bandwidth efficiently, this paper proposes Practical Patching that removes the unnecessary data included in the transition stream. The proposed Practical Patching dynamically expands ongoing transition streams when a new request actually arrives at the server. As a result, the transition streams never have unnecessary data. Simulation result confirmed that the proposed technique is better than Recursive Patching in terms of service latency and defection rate.

  • We propose an efficient uplink bandwidth request-allocation algorithm for variable-rate real-time service in IEEE 802.11 broadband wireless access networks. By introducing a notion of target delay under the framework of dual feedback, the proposed algorithm can assure the desired level of QoS while minimizing wastage of bandwidth allocation.

  • This paper proposes a new dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithm for an XG-PON (10-Gbps-capable passive optical network) system in which an ONU (optical network unit) does not explicitly send its request to an OLT (optical line termination). To estimate the request of the ONU, the OLT monitors the upstream bandwidth usage of the ONU and periodically allocates a probe slot to the ONU.

  • When the bandwidth resources in a packet-switched network are shared among sessions by MAX-MIN flow control each session is required to transmit its data into the network subject to the MAX-MIN fair rate which is solely determined by network loadings. This passive behavior of sessions if fact can cause seri-ous QoS(Quality of Service) degradation particularly for real-time multimedia sessions such as video since the rate allocated by the network can mismatch with what is demanded by each session for its QoS. In order to alleviate this problem we extend the concept of MAX-MIN fair bandwidth allocations as follows: Individual bandwidth demands are guaranteed if the network can accommodate them and only the residual network band-width is shared in the MAX-MIN fair sense. On the other hand if sum of the individual bandwidth demands exceeds the network capacity the shortage of the bandwidth is shared by all the sessions by reducing each bandwidth guarantee by the MAX-MIN fair division of the shortage. we present a novel flow control algorithm to achieve this extended MAX-MIN fairness and show that this algorithm can be implemented by the existing ATM ABR service protocol with minor changes. We not only analyze the steady state asymptotic stability and convergence rate of the algorithm by appealing to control theories but also verify its practical performance through simulations in a variety of network scenarios.

  • In this paper, new on-line routing algorithms with a bandwidth constraint are proposed. The proposed algorithms may be used for a dynamic LSP setup in MPLS network. We extend the WSP algorithm, the SWP algorithm and a utilization-based routing algorithm into the proposed algorithms by slightly modified K-shortest loopless path algorithms. The performances such as accepted bandwidth, accepted request number and average path length of the proposed and the previous algorithms are evaluated through extensive simulations. All simulations are conducted under the condition that any node can be an ingress or egress node for a LSP setup. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithms have the good performances in most cases in comparison to the previous algorithms. Under the heavy load condition, the algorithms based on the minimum hop path perform better than any other algorithms.

  • Earlier efforts on optical access concentrated on the design of PONs for the collection and distribution portion of the access network. The PON architecture is very simple but it requires a MAC protocol for control of upstream traffic. The MAC protocol must support QoS (Quality of Service) administration function by various traffic class, efficient dynamic bandwidth assignment function, CDV (Ceil Delay Variation) minimization function etc. This paper proposes a dynamic bandwidth assignment algorithm of the MAC protocol for a broadband access network using an Ethernet Passive Optical Network supporting various traffic class. We compare our proposed with MDRR algorithm using simulation, and confirmed that our proposed Request-Counter algorithm produces shorter average cell delay.

  • Over the last decade the research of end-to-end behavior on computer network has grown by orders but it has few researching in hop-by-hop behavior. We think if we know hop-by-hop behavior it can make better understanding in network behavior. This paper represent ICMP time stamp request and time stamp reply as tool of network study for learning in hop-by-hop behavior to estimate link bandwidth and link structure. We describe our idea, experiment tools, experiment environment, result and analysis, and our discussion in our observative.

  • Adaptability is an important issue in video streaming over mobile environments, since the clients may request videos with great differences in their workload. In this paper, we propose the issues in limited bandwidth scheduling for efficient MPEG-4 video stream transmission over a mobile or wireless network. In the phase of admission control, the amount of bandwidth allocated to serve a video request is the mean bandwidth requirement of its requested video. The dynamic allocation of bandwidth in the phase of scheduling depends on the playback buffer levels of the clients with an objective to make it more adaptive to the playback situation of individual clients. In the proposed RTA scheduling protocol, more bandwidth may be allocated temporarily to the client whose buffer level is low. By employing the buffer level based scheduling policy, this protocol attempts to maximize the real-time performance of individual playback while minimizing the impact of transient overloading. Extensive simulation experiments have been performed to investigate the performance characteristics of the RTA protocol as comparing with BSBA protocol. This RTA protocol shows the better performance by transferring more frames than BSBA protocol.Computer simulations reveals that the standard deviation of the bit rate error of the proposed scheme is 50% less than that of the conventional method.

  • In this paper, we investigate a multi-beam satellite communication system where multiple terminals transmit information signals to the gateway via a satellite. The satellite is equipped with phased array antennas to form multiple spot beams of which bandwidths are not identically allocated. We formulate an optimization problem to maximize fairness of beam bandwidth allocation. In order to solve the problem, we propose two heuristic algorithms; iterative beam bandwidth allocation (IBBA) and request ratio-based beam bandwidth allocation (RRBBA) algorithms. The IBBA algorithm iteratively equalizes the ratio of allocated bandwidth of each beam to their resource request while the RRBBA algorithm allocates beam bandwidth calculated from the ratio. Simulation results show that the IBBA algorithm has close fairness performance to the optimum while the RRBBA algorithm has less performance than the IBBA algorithm at the price of reduced computational complexity.
