  • A 2 stage 6-pole bandpass filter (BPF) is designed and implemented by using K-band triple-mode cavity. The BPF has an 100MHz bandwidth at the center frequency of 18.5GHz and the response of the filter is Chebyshev function. The cavity filter uses two orthogonal $TE_{113}$ modes and one $TM_{012}$ mode. To obtain a Chebyshev response, the intercavity coupling between the adjacent cavities is accomplished by H-field component of TE modes parallel to slot plate. In this paper, the size and location of intercavity slot are determined by the detailed coupling equation from H-field of TE resonant modes in circular cavity. The measured results agree well with the theoretical one.

  • A 2 stage 6-pole bandpass filter(BPF) is designed and implemented by using triple-mode cavity for satellite payload system. The BPF has an 100 MHz bandwidth at the center frequency of 14.5 GHz, Ku-band. The cavity filter uses two orthogonal $TE_{113}$ modes and one $TM_{012}$ mode. The intercavity coupling between the adjacent cavities results in a Chebyshev response and is accomplished by H-field component of TE modes. The size and location of intercavity slot are determined by the coupling equation from H-field of TE resonant modes in circular cavity. The measured filter response agrees well with the theoretical data.

  • Compact multi-band bandpass filters using quad-mode stub-loaded resonators are proposed in this letter. Firstly, a novel approach about the mode-splitting characteristics of the quadruple-mode resonator is investigated, which can provide dual-band behavior. Secondly, a quad-band filter is proposed and designed by cascading two quadruple-mode resonators; the upper one operates at 1.8/2.4 GHz (GSM- and WiMax-band) and the lower one at 1.57/2.1 GHz (GPS- and WCDMA-band). Finally, the proposed filters have been fabricated. Respectable agreement between simulation and measurement verifies the validity of this design methodology.

  • In this paper, a new dual-band bandpass filter(BPF) that has resonators and feed lines with Stepped-Impedance Resonator(SIR) structures is proposed. Feed lines with SIR structure provide maximum magnetic field points which occur at the same locations of the input and output feed lines, so the insertion loss of BPF was reduced. Applying the SIR structure to the BPF for the first passband improves rejection characteristics between the first passband and the second passband. It reduces the coupling between the BPF for the first passband and the BPF for the second passband, so it makes the dual-band BPF more compact. The proposed design method provides independent changes of both the center frequency and the bandwidth for each resonator, and also improves filtering characteristics. The validity of the proposed design method is confirmed by comparisons between the designed parameters and the measured results satisfying WLAN specifications.

  • In this paper, the application of a variable characteristic impedance transmission line that can be used to design a dual-band bandpass filter(BPF) is presented. The proposed filter offers a fixed first frequency passband and a controllable second passband. The tuning of the second passband is achieved by varying the characteristic impedance of and open shunt stub line in a stub loaded resonator(SLR) with the help of a defected ground structure(DGS) transmission line and varactor diodes. In order to validate the proposed structure, a two stage dual-band BPF with three transmission zeros was implemeted and experimentally verified based on its theoretical predictions and simulations.

  • We present an all-fiberized power-scalable, sub-nanosecond mode-locked laser based on a frequency-shifted-feedback ring cavity comprised of an erbium-doped fiber, a downshifting acousto-optic modulator (AOM), and a bandpass filter (BPF). With the aid of the frequency-shifted feedback mechanism provided by the AOM and the narrow filter bandwidth of 0.45 nm, we generate self-starting, mode-locked optical pulses with a spectral bandwidth of ~0.098 nm and a pulsewidth of 432 to 536 ps. In particular, the output power is readily scalable with pump power while keeping the temporal shape and spectral bandwidth. This is obtained via the consolidation of bound pulse modes circulating at the fundamental repetition rate of the cavity. In fact, the consolidated pulses form a single-entity envelope of asymmetric Gaussian shape where no discrete internal pulses are perceived. This result highlights that the inclusion of the narrow BPF into the cavity is crucial to achieving the consolidated pulses.

  • In this paper, two new circuit structures for European and U.S. ultra-wide band(UWB) bandpass filters(BPFs) with sharp roll-off characteristics are introduced. We show first that the ultra-wide bandpass property is obtained from a $\lambda$/4 open T resonator with a capacitively coupled $\lambda$/4 short-circuited line, which provides two attenuation poles at lower and upper cutoff frequencies. Then, two identical capacitively coupled input/output lines, which can be $\lambda$/4-length open ends or $\lambda$/2-length short ends, with the T-resonator, are adopted to suppress lower and higher frequency components outside of the pass band. There is coupling between the input and output lines providing two additional transmission zeros in the lower and upper transition bands of the filter. Since the coupling between the T-resonator with the $\lambda$/4 short-circuited line and the input/output lines limits the bandwidth of the filter to the European UWB band, both the $\lambda$/4 short-circuited line and the input/output lines are inserted between the two stacked T-resonators for the U.S. UWB band. The filter structures are simulated with ADS and HFSS and realized with low-temperature co-fired ceramic(LTCC) green tape which has the dielectric constant of 7.8. Measurement results agree well with HFSS simulation results.

  • A multilayer two-stage bandpass filter using dissimilar low-temperature cofired-ceramic (LTCC) materials is proposed in this paper. The proposed bandpass filter is composed of ceramic substrates with different dielectric constant instead of single ceramic material from top to bottom layer. Inductive elements are designed in a low permittivity ceramic layer to reduce parasitic effects and loss, while capacitive elements are designed in a high pertimitivity ceramic layer for size reduction. The center frequency of the proposed filter is 1.842 GHz, and the performance of the filter is analyzed and compared with the conventional LTCC filter with single material in terms of integration density, size reduction, and performance improvement.

  • In this letter, we proposed a novel DGS (Defected Ground Structure) microstrip resonator. The proposed DGS resonator has the resonant and anti-resonant characteristic that is very similar to those of a SAW resonator or a FBAR. In order to confirm the validity of the proposed resonator, we designed and implemented bandpass fitters by using series ana parallel resonators.

  • A new wideband bandstop filter(BSF) with a sharp roll-off characteristic is introduced in a stripline structure in this paper. The BSF consists of two sections: the first is two capacitively coupled $\lambda/4$ short-circuited lines with opposite ground positions, while the second is a capacitively coupled $\lambda/4$ short-circuited line. The BSF provides three transmission zeros within the stopband and better than 22 dB rejection over the whole wireless local area network (WLAN) band from 5.15 to 5.825 GHz. The BSF, cascaded to an U.S. ultra-wideband(UWB: 3.1~10.6 GHz) band-pass filter(BPF), is simulated with HFSS and realized with low-temperature co-fired ceramic(LTCC) green tape with a dielectric constant of 7.8. The measurement results agree well with the HFSS simulation results. The size of the UWB BPF including the BSF is $3{\times}6.3\times0.45\;mm^3$.
