  • A low-voltage high-linear bipolar OTA and its application to IF bandpass filter for GSM cellular telephone are presented. The OTA consists of a low-voltage linear transconductor, a translinear current gain cell, and three current mirrors. The bandpass filter is composed of two cascaded identical second-order bandpass filters, which consist of a resistor, a capacitor, and a grounded simulated inductor realized with two OTA's and a grounded capacitor. SPICE simulations using an 8 GHz bipolar transistor-array parameter show that the OTA with a transconductance of 1 mS exhibits a linearity error of less than ${\pm}2%$ over an input voltage range of ${\pm}0.65\;V$ at supply voltages of ${\pm}2.0\;V$. Temperature coefficient of the transconductance is less than $-90ppm/^{\circ}C$. The bandpass filter has a center frequency of 85 MHz and Q-factor of 80. Temperature coefficient of the center frequency is less than $-182ppm/^{\circ}C$. The power dissipation of the filter is 128 mW.

  • In this letter, the effect of quality factor on center frequency deviation in miniaturized coupled line bandpass filter (BPF) with diagonally end-shorted at their opposite sides and lumped capacitors is theoretically analyzed. The miniaturized BPF of a two-stage structure with two types of quality factors in standard CMOS process was designed and manufactured at 5.5 GHz. The die area of BPF was $1.44{\times}0.41\;mm^2$. The measured center frequency of BPF with a quality factor of 4.9 was deviated from 5.5 GHz to 4.7 GHz. The one with 14.8 was shifted to 5GHz. The theoretical and measured results validate that quality factor influences the center frequency shift of BPF.

  • A compact radio frequency (RF) bandpass filter (BPF) in low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) is suggested for WiMAX applications. The center frequency ($f_0$) of the BPF is 5.5 GHz and its pass band or 3-dB bandwidth is 700 MHz to cover all the three major bands, low and middle unlicensed national information infrastructure (U-NII; 5.15-5.35 GHz), World Radiocommunication Conference (5.47-5.725 GHz), and upper U-NII/industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) (5.725-5.85 GHz), for the WiMAX frequency band. A lumped circuit element design-the 5th order capacitively coupled Chebyshev BPF topology-is adopted. In order to design a compact RF BPF, a very thin ($43.18{\mu}m$) ceramic layer is used in LTCC substrate. An interdigital BPF is also designed in silicon substrate to compare the size and performance of the lumped circuit element BPF. Due to the high relative dielectric constant (${\varepsilon}_r$ = 11.9) of the silicon substrate, the quarter-wavelength resonator of the interdigital BPF can be reduced. In comparison to the 5th order interdigital BPF at $f_0$ = 5.5 GHz, the lumped element design is 24% smaller in volume and has 17 and 7 dB better attenuation characteristics at $f_0{\pm}0.75$ GHz.

  • In this paper a four-pole elliptic function bandpass filter is designed with two ground slots. A research of microstrip bandpass filters (BPF) using defected ground structures (DGS) is presented. DGS technique allows designs of tight couplings without the necessity of using very narrow coupling gaps. The simulator Sonnet is used to design the resonator and to calculate the coupling coefficient of the basic coupling structure. Compared to similar microstrip filters without defected ground structure, the simulated performances of these novel structures indicate some technological advantages.

  • In this paper, we propose an active tunable bandpass filter (BPF) for efficient spectrum sensing in the TV White Space (TVWS) band. By designing a narrow bandwidth, it is possible to improve the sensing probability. The basic circuit configuration involves switching the PIN diode compromising capacitor bank to change the capacitance of the LC resonant circuit. To cover the whole TVWS band effectively, we add a varactor diode, and the bandwidth is set to 25-MHz. We improve the insertion loss by using the active capacitance circuit. The tunable BPF in the TVWS band with a 20-MHz interval is designed to have 11 channels with a bandwidth of 25 MHz and a low insertion loss of 1.7-2.0 dB.

  • A switchable single-wideband (SWB)-to-dual-wideband (DWB) bandpass filter (BPF), which is realized by using lumped switches, is presented in this paper. By alternating the operation modes-ON and OFF-in which the ON mode is achieved by placing the capacitors at the switching spots and the OFF mode is achieved by replacing the capacitors with inductors, DWB-to-SWB BPF can be achieved on the same device. In addition, by changing the capacitor values, the center frequency (CF) of the lower passband of DWB BPF can be easily tuned from 1.69 GHz to 2.22 GHz, while the higher passband stays almost unchanged. As an example, an SWB-to-DWB BPF is designed, fabricated, and measured. This BPF exhibits good performance including wideband, high isolation, compact size, and ability to switch.

  • In this paper a novel dielectric resonator (DR) bandpass filter (BPF) with flexible arrangement of attenuation poles is proposed. This DR filter is similar to a conventional DR filter except adding a microstrip line below a DR, which not only shifts the location of attenuation poles, but also improves skirt characteristics. The duplexer with the proposed DR BPF has been yielded better isolation and sharper skirt behavior than that with a conventional DR alter. The implemented duplexer has shown a good performance and been well agreed with the simulation.

  • This paper presents a LTCC Balun-BPF, which is a BPF(bandpass filter) with a Balun in a single LTCC chip for the direct interface with a MIC chip having balanced inputs. The physical dimension of the designed Balun-BPE is $2.4{\times}2.0{\times}0.88m^3$ and the used dielectric constant ${\varepsilon}_r$ is 36. A Balun of three-lines structure with striplines and a BPF of comb-line structure was combined into the Balun-BPF. The simulated result shows 4.8dB of insertion loss, $178{\sim}179$ degree of the phase imbalance, 14dB of the return

  • In this paper, we present a novel design for a dual-band bandpass filter (BPF) based on the conventional second-order, open-loop BPF. By adding series resonant circuits to the open ends of the resonator, we can create two resonant modes from the even and odd modes. One pair of the even and odd modes constitutes the upper passband, while the other pair constitutes the lower passband. By adding another series resonant circuit to the open-loop resonator, we can control the bandwidth of either the upper passband or the lower passband. We can replace the series resonant circuits with simple microstrip line resonators. A dual-band BPF working at both Wi-Fi bands (2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz bands) is designed based on the proposed method and is tested. The measured and simulated results show excellent agreement.
