  • Hockey games attracts many fans around the world. This game requires a specific type of ball and a stick for controlling the motion and trace of the ball. This control of motion involves hitting the ball which is a direct intensive dynamic loading. The impact load transferred directly to the hand of the player and in the professional player may cause long term medical problems. Therefore, dynamic motion of the stick should be understood. In the current study, we analyze the dynamic motion of a hockey stick under impact loading from a hockey ball. In doing so, the stick geometry is simplified as a beam structure and quasi-2D relations of displacement is applied along with classical linear elasticity theory for isotropic materials. The governing equations and natural boundary condition are extracted using Hamilton's principle. The final equations in terms of displacement components are solved using Galerkin's numerical method. The results are presented using indentation and contact force values for variations of different parameters.

  • A study on design and structural strength analysis of a positioner in robot overlay welding system of a ball for ball-valves. Turning-unit of positioner modeled, analysis was conducted by assuming the beam. Turning-unit is applied to the stress, it was shown by 366.85MPa when weight of the ball is $9,000kg_f$. This value is higher than the yield strength of the material. Based on the results of previous, it was modeled the turning-unit by modifying. Results of analysis by a modified modeling, The value of stress was confirmed to 296.11MPa. This value is a value lower than the yield strength of the material, it was found to support the weight of the ball.

  • In this paper, dynamic and static bending of ball modelled by nanocomposite microbeam by nanoparticles seeing agglomeration is presented. The structural damping is considered by Kelvin-Voigt model. The agglomeration effects are assumed using Mori-Tanaka model. The football ball is modeled by third order shear deformation theory (TSDT). The motion equations are derived by principle of Hamilton's and energy method assuming size effects on the basis of Eringen theory. Using differential quadrature method (DQM) and Newmark method, the static and dynamic deflections of the structure are obtained. The effects of agglomeration and CNTs volume percent, damping of structure, nonlocal parameter, length and thickness of micro-beam are presented on the static and dynamic deflections of the nanocomposite structure. Results show that with increasing CNTs volume percent, the maximum dimensionless dynamic deflection is reduced about 17%. In addition, assuming CNTs agglomeration increases the dimensionless dynamic deflection about 14%. It is also found that with increasing the CNTs volume percent from 0 to 0.15, the static deflection is decreased about 3 times due to the enhance in the stiffness of the structure. In addition, with enhancing the nonlocal parameters, the dynamic deflection is increased about 3.1 times.

  • Ball-balancing control systems are ideal to demonstrate the design and hardware implementation Procedures of optimal controllers based on modern control theory. This paper presents the design of an $H_2$ optimal controller based on the generalized plant model of the ball-balancing system. The problem of balancing a metal ball on the midpoint of a beam is ultimately related to a regulating problem. So, the designed controller is correspond to this problem. The controller was experimented by DSP(digital signal processing) equipments and simulated by MATLAB. The performance of controller was verified through the experiments.

  • In this paper, we propose a fault-tolerant controller for compensating measurement noise of feedback sensor. Because control systems operate via feedback sensor's signal, the measurement noise in sensor's signal results in performance degradation or even system failure. Therefore, control systems often demand on compensating measurement noise. Our controller is equipped with a compensator in order to reject or reduce the effect of measurement noise in feedback information. Our proposed method is verified via simulation and experiment for a Ball and Beam system.

  • In this study, we introduce the design methodology of an optimized Interval Type-2 fuzzy controller. The fixed MF design of type-1 based FLC leads to the difficulty of rule-based control design for representing the linguistically uncertain expression. In the Type-2 FLC as the expanded type of Type-1 FLC, we can effectively improve the control characteristic by using the footprint of uncertainty(FOU) of membership function. Type-2 FLC has a robust characteristic in the unknown system with unspecific noise when compared with Type-1 FLC. Through computer simulation as well as practical experiment, we compare their performance by applying both the optimized Type-1 and Type-2 fuzzy cascade controllers to ball and beam system. To evaluate each controller performance, we consider controller characteristic parameters such as maximum overshoot, delay time, rise time, settling time and steady-state error.

  • Characteristic relaxation time and characteristic diffusion time of viscoelastic fluids are determined experimentally by measuring the zero-shear-rate viscosity by falling ball viscometer and the infinite-shear-rate viscosity by capillary tube viscometer. Fluids used in experiments are aqueous solutions of polyacrylamide Separan AP-273 and the polymer concentrations range from 300 to 2000 wppm. A newly designed laser beam and timer system is employed to overcome the difficulty in measuring terminal velocities of the low concentration solutions. Ball removal device is prepared to remove the dropped ball from the bottom of cylinder without disturbing the testing fluid. In order to measure the zero-shear-rate viscosity, densities of hollow aluminium balls are adjusted very close to the densities of testing fluids. Characteristic diffusion time, which is ball viscometer. However, terminal velocity of a needle by falling ball viscometer is not affected by the time interval of dropping needles and characteristic diffusion time is not measured with a dropping needle. Powell-Eyring model predicts the highest values of the characteristic relaxation times among models used for heat transfer experimental works for a given polymer solution. As degradation of a polymer solution continues, the zero-shear-rate viscosity decreases more seriously than the infinite-shear-rate viscosity. Characteristic relaxation times of polymer solutions decreases as degradation continues.

  • Recently, there is an increase in the need for precision linear stages with vacuum compatibility in such areas as lithography equipment for wafer or mask manufacturing, mask mastering equipment for optical data storage and electron beam equipment. A simple design, high stiffness and low cost can be achieved by using ball bearings. However, a ball bearing have friction and wear problems just as in ambient air. In order to decrease the friction, a special finish, a diamond-like carbon (DLC) film coating, is applied to the surface of a guide rail by sputtering deposition. This paper presents the result of an experimental investigation on the control performance of a ball bearing-guided linear motion stage under two environmental conditions: in air and vacuum. A comparison between the results with and without the DLC coating was also considered in the experimental investigation.

  • In this paper, we have studied minimization of the burr which occurred after $\mu$-BGA(ball grid array) singulation process, singulation of the multilayer with a pulsed Nd:YAG(266, 532 nm) laser is used to cut the metal layer which doesn't well absorb laser beam. Especially, the photoresist and $N_2$blowing is effective to minimize of the surface demage and burr. In this experiment, the $N_2$ blowing reduces a laser energy loss by debris and suppress a surface oxidation. The SEM(scanning electron microscopes) and non-contact 3D inspector are used to measure cutting line-width and surface demage. The $\mu$-BGA singulation threshold energy is 75.0 J/cm$^2$at 30 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/s scan speed.
