m-Bromonitrobenzene was reduced to m-bromoaniline with a 86∼91% yield by either baker's yeast (Sigma type I) or glucose and baker's yeast in conjunction with glucose. Nitrosobenzene was reduced to aniline in good yields using baker's yeast(Sigma type I) only.

This paper considers the limiting behavior of the partial sum process of a martingale sequence constructed from the baker transformation. We get the uniform law of large numbers for the baker transformation.

A novel process was developed to simultaneously produce invertase and yeast extract from baker's yeast using ultrafiltration (UF) and microfiltration (MF) membrane processing. After the extraction of invertase under the optimal condition obtained in this study, invertase was separated from yeast cells using a hollow fiber membrane with a pore size of 0.1 $\mu\textrm{m}$. The resulting permeate containing invertase was concentrated using a hollow fiber membrane with a nominal molecular weight cut-off of 30 kDa. The yeast cell and permeate solutions, which were obtained after MF and UF membrane processing, respectively, were mixed together, and the autolysis was performed at 50$^{\circ}C$ in the presence of 5% (w/v) ethanol and 1% (w/v) NaCl. As a result, the yeast extract and invertase could be simultaneously produced from baker's yeast by this novel process.

- Ethanol production by calcium alginate-immobilized baker's yeast was studied in the continuous shaked-flask reactor (CSFR) using glucose medium as a feed. Immobilized cells were stable at 30~$37^{\circ}C$ and pH 4~8. Fermentation characteristics of immobilized baker's yeast were examined changing the initial glucose concentration employed were 50, 100 and 150 g/l, respectively. It was investigated that the influent glucose concentration and the dilution rate have an influence on the ethanol fermentation characteristics at steady state in continuous culture of immobilized baker's yeast. The optimum conditions for high ethanol productivity and low residual glucose output in ethanol prodution were shown to be 0.2 h ' for the dilution rate and 150 g/l for the influent glucose concentration. The maximum ethanol productivity, ethanol yield, specific growth rate and glucose conversion rate were around 7.12 g/$l\cdot h$, 0.23, 0.366 g/$l\cdot h$ and 78.43, respectively.

Baker's cyst is found as most frequent cystic mass around the knee occurring between medial head of gastrocnemius muscle and semimembranosus muscle. The proximal or posterolateral extension of the cyst had been rarely reported and the cyst into the surrounding muscular tissue extremely rare. Intramuscular Baker's cyst that we report was found between lateral head of gastrocnemius muscle and popliteus tendon, and then extended into the plantaris muscle. With review of the literature, we here report a very rare case of plantaris muscular extension of Baker's cyst.

An intracellular, soluble 1,4-benzoquinone reductase was purified from Baker's Yeast by ammonium sulfate precipitation, DEAE-Sephacel anion exchange chromatography, and Sephacryl S-200 gel filtration chromatography. 1,4-Benzoquinone reductase was achieved 123.8 fold purification from crude homogenate with a yield of 11.1%.

In R. McKenzie[12], it is shown that the cardinality of the lattice variety is $2^\aleph_0$ and K. Baker[1] contains the stronger result that M, the variety of all modular lattices, has $2^\aleph_0$ subvarieties. It follows that there exists a variety of modular lattices that is not finitely based. In fact, K. Baker[2] gave an example of such a variety. And it was proved by K. Baker [2] and B. Jonsson [8] that join of two finitely based lattice varieties is not always finitely based. K. Baker[2] gave an explicit example of case of nonmodular lattice variety. Then it is proposed whether the join of two finitely based varieties if finitely based under certain conditions. The answer to the question is not affirmative.

Purpose: The goal of this study is to assess the usefulness of ultrasonography in diagnosis of Baker's cyst. Materials and Methods: 42 cases of popliteal mass in 41 patients were reviewed between August 2006 and April 2009. All patients were evaluated with both MR imaging and ultrasonography. We investigated the comparison of a morphology, location, septation, and communication of mass between MR imaging and ultrasonography. Results: On ultrasonography, 40 Baker's cysts and 2 lipomas were detected, and all cysts were located at the medial side. 11 simple septated masses and 3 multiple cysts were detected, and 26 simple communicated cysts were suspected. On MR imaging, 40 Baker's cysts and 2 lipomas were detected, and all cysts were located at the medial side. 13 simple septated masses and 3 multiple cysts were detected, and 15 simple communicated cysts were suspected. Conclusion: Ultrasonography didn't give the definite information of Baker's cyst about communication with joint, but ultrasonography was a cost-effective useful tool for evaluation of a morphology, location and differential diagnosis of the Baker's cyst.
