  • For the successful characterization of the fractured reservoir, it is inevitable to describe fracture properties more precisely. Although the deterministic features, of mega-trend faults can be relatively definite, the background features of minor fractures are not easily analysed in spite of the various data of these features. In this study, two different methods, statistical and fractal methods, are used to construct the minor fracture system over the entire field. After completing these tasks, with the identified deterministic features and background features, total fracture system for fractured reservoir is constructed and updated with the aid of dynamic data obtained from well test.

  • Recently, advance signal analysis which is called "Time-Frequency Analysis" has been developed. Wavelet and Wigner Distribution are used to the method. Wavelet transform(WT) is applied to time-frequency analysis of waveforms obtained by an ultrasonic pulse-echo technique. The Gabor function is adopted as the analyzing wavelet. Wavelet analysis method is an attractive technique for evolution of material characterization evoluation. In this paper, the feasibility of suppression of ultrasonic background noise signal using WT has been presented. These results suggest that ultrasonic background noise ginal can be suppressed and enhanced even for SNR of 20.8 dB. This property of the WT is extremely useful for the detecting flaw echos embedded in background noise.und noise.

  • In stochastic hyperspectral target detection algorithms, the target signal components may be included in the background characterization if targets are not rare in the image, causing target leakage. In this paper, the effect of target leakage is analysed and an improved hyperspectral target detection method is proposed by excluding the pixels which have similar reflectance spectrum with the target in the process of background characterization. Experimental results using the AISA airborne hyperspectral data and simulated data with artificial targets show that the proposed method can dramatically improve the target detection performance of matched filter and adaptive cosine estimator. More studies on the various metrics for measuring spectral similarity and adaptive method to decide the appropriate amount of exclusion are expected to increase the performance and usability of this method.

  • The background control data were compiled from rat developmental toxicity studies con-ducted at Toxicology Research Center, KRICT during the 1993-1999 period. These data were assembled in order to provide background in formation for the maternal and fetal data collected in 13 developmental toxicity studies using Sprague-Dawley rats. A total of 325 mated females were used in these studies during the seven-year period and overall pregnancy rate of these females was 93.8%. The present background control data included body weights, food consumption, hematological values, and organ weights of pregnant females, caesarean section data, and fetal examination data. These data can be used not only as a historical database for the meaningful interpretation of data from reproductive and developmental toxicity studies, but also as a contribution to biological characterization oj Sprague-Dawley rats.

  • This paper investigated the introduction background, the role a nd the functioning of the CADIST which is operated in France in order to emphasize the necessity of characterization of academic libraries. The objective of this policy is to collect and to diffuse scientific and technical information, and to establish its sharing system. The result of the policy shows that the sharing system is brought an activation of research and a discrimination or characterization of universities. And the discrimination and characterization of academic libraries is played an important role in area industry.

  • Background: The aim of this study was to compare the characterization of prostate cancer using the conventional and 2005 ISUP modified Gleason systems. Materials and Methods: The study employed samples from 40 prostate cancer patients with resection, biopsy and RP materials. The majority of cases (95%) comprised adenocarcinoma of the prostate with a modified combined Gleason score of 7 in 20 of the cases (50%). Results: Upgrading of Gleason scores to a score of 7 occurred in more than 45% of the cases. Conclusion: The study successfully showed that by the use of the 2005 ISUP modified Gleason system, score 6 cancers decreased from 25% to 17.5% of cases, whereas score 7 cancers increased from 45% to 50%.

• Genetic background and phylogenetic relationships among 20 Korean wheat cultivars were assessed using microsatellites after amplifying with 13 SSR primer pairs. Average allele number per primer pair was 3.36. Genetic similarities for every pair of cultivars ranged from 0.42 to 0.97, with 0.69 of overall average. Korean cultivars were divided into two major groups based on microsatellite DNA polymorphisms. Group I consisted of relatively old cultivars developed until 1970s, and group II contained the recent cultivars developed during 1980s and 1990s. Amongst old elite cultivars/lines, ‘Yukseung 3’, ‘Norin 12’ and ‘Norin 72’ contributed most to the genetic background of cultivars belonging to group I, and ‘Norin 4’, ‘Norin 12’, ‘Norin 43’ and ‘Norin 72’ to group II, respectively. The phylogenetic relationship of Korean wheat cultivars was in accordance with the genealogical data of each cultivar. The genetic background of each cultivar was assessed from the point of breeding and germplasm management such as variety identification and duplicated accessions for assisting in developing a system for the registration of new variety based on the molecular characterization in future.

  • Innovative and nondestructive characterization techniques have been developed to locate and quantify nonaqueous phase liquids (NAPLs) in the vadose and saturated zones in the subsurface environment. One such technique is the partitioning interwell tracer test (PITT). The PITT is a simultaneous displacement of partitioning and non-partitioning tracers through a subsurface formation. Partitioning tracers will partition into the NAPL during their transport through NAPL-contaminated formations. Mean travel times of partitioning and non-partitioning tracers are used to estimate the quantity of NAPL encountered by the displaced tracer pulse. Travel times are directly proportional to the partitioning coefficient and the volume of NAPL contacted in the subsurface environment. This paper discusses the conceptual background, design and implementation of PITTs.
