Geomechanics parameters are critical to numerical simulation, stability analysis, design and construction of geotechnical engineering. Due to the limitations of laboratory and in situ experiments, back analysis is widely used in geomechancis and geotechnical engineering. In this study, a hybrid back analysis method, that coupling numerical simulation, response surface (RS) and relevance vector machine (RVM), was proposed and applied to identify geomechanics parameters from hydraulic fracturing. RVM was adapted to approximate complex functional relationships between geomechanics parameters and borehole pressure through coupling with response surface method and numerical method. Artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm was used to search the geomechanics parameters as optimal method in back analysis. The proposed method was verified by a numerical example. Based on the geomechanics parameters identified by hybrid back analysis, the computed borehole pressure agreed closely with the monitored borehole pressure. It showed that RVM presented well the relationship between geomechanics parameters and borehole pressure, and the proposed method can characterized the geomechanics parameters reasonably. Further, the parameters of hybrid back analysis were analyzed and discussed. It showed that the hybrid back analysis is feasible, effective, robust and has a good global searching performance. The proposed method provides a significant way to identify geomechanics parameters from hydraulic fracturing.

This paper proposes a new position compensation method for misaligned Hall-effect sensors of BLDCM(Brushless DC Motor). If the Hall-effect sensors are installed at wrong position, the exact rotor position cannot be obtained. Therefore, when the BLDCM is controlled with this wrong position, the torque ripple can be increased and the average torque also decreases. The back-EMF of BLDCM can be obtained by using the voltage equation and by multiplying the back-EMF constant and rotor speed. At a constant speed, the estimated back-EMF by using the multiplication of the back-EMF constant and rotor speed is constant, but the estimated back-EMF from the voltage equation decreases at the commutation point because the line-to-line back-EMF of two conducting phases is start to decrease at this point. Therefore, by using the difference between these two estimated back-EMFs, the commutation point of the phase current can be determined and position compensation can be carried out. The proposed position correction method doesn't require additional hardware circuit and can be easily implemented. The validity of the proposed position compensation method is verified through several experiments.

In general, the tension fores of hanger cable in suspension bridges play an important role in evaluating the bridge state. The vibration method, as a conventional one, has been widely applied to estimate the tension fores by using the measured frequencies on hanger cables. However, the vibration method is not applicable to short hanger cables because the frequency of short cables is severely sensitive to the flexural rigidity. Thus, in this study, the tension forces of short hanger cables, of which the length is shorter than 10meters, were estimated through back analysis of the cable frequencies measured from Gwang-An suspension bridge in Korea. Direct approach to rock analysis is adopted using the univariate method among the direct search methods as an optimization technique. The univariate method is able to search the optimal tension forces without regard to the initial ones and has a rapid convergence rate. To verify the feasibility of back analysis, the results from back analysis and vibration method are compared with the design tension forces. From the comparison, it can be inferred that back analysis results are more reasonable agreement with the design tension forces of short hanger cable. Therefore, it is concluded that back analysis applied in this study is an appropriate tool for estimating tension forces of short hanger cables.

The important role of observational method in geotechnical engineering are emphasized together with the direction of future development, concerning successful application of the technique on the site investigation, design and feed back at various construction stages. Case histories on the application of feed back are introduced in order to achieve the most economical and reliable construction for tunnel, rock slope and deep excavations through feed back system at design and construction stages. Also the limitations and advantages of the observational method and the role of feed back system are discussed for construction of tunnel, rock slope and deep excavation in hard ground such as layered ground conditions including weathered, soft and hard rocks.
This paper presents a method to design the waveform of a back electromotive force (back EMF) of an axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM) motor using printed circuit board (PCB) windings. When the magnetization distribution of permanent magnet (PM) is given, the magnetic field in the air gap region is calculated by the quasi three dimensional (3D) space harmonic analysis (SHA) method. Once the flux density distribution in the winding region is determined, the required shape of the back EMF can be obtained by adjusting the winding distribution. This can be done by modifying the distance between patterns of PCB to control the harmonics in the winding distribution. The proposed method is verified by finite element analysis (FEA) results and it shows the usefulness of the method in eliminating a specific harmonic component in the back EMF waveform of a motor.
Purpose: To identify the factors which are related to compensated low back pain disability. These include individual. workplace. economic and injury factors. Method: Data collection was performed at 13 office of Korea Labor Welfare Corporation and 29 hospitals from 23th June to 4th August 2003. This study used 212 workers with compensated low back pain. Result: From the bivariate analysis, industry kind, type of employment, rest schedule, Job control, compensation, payment of company, diagnosis, cause of occupational injury, duration of compensated low back pain, pattern of pain, operation, other injury is related to low back pain disability. From the multiple regression analysis, rest schedule, compensation, diagnosis, pattern of pain, other injury have statistically significant effect on the low back pain disability. Conclusion: In order to reduce low back pain disability, occupational rehabilitation nursing intervention is necessary to workers with compensated low back pain.
Purpose: Low back pain occurs and frequently recurs in many people. An imbalance of paraspinal muscle activity can cause low back pain. Mulligan's concept of mobilizations with sustained natural apophyseal glides (SNAG) is a common method for treating low back pain. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of this method on paraspinal muscle activity in patients with chronic low back pain. Methods: Twenty-one patients with low back pain participated in this study. Patients were classified using the Oswestry disability index. The subjects' paraspinal muscles were measured by surface electromyography both before and after the SNAG mobilization. We measured the root mean square value of the paraspinal muscles during lumbar flexion and extension. Results: Paraspinal muscle activity in patients with chronic low back pain was different between the right and left sides. Importantly, paraspinal muscle activity significantly decreased after using the SNAG mobilization method. Conclusion: This study shows a difference between paraspinal muscle activity in chronic low back pain patients and finds that the Mulligan's concept of SNAG mobilization is effective at reducing imbalances in paraspinal muscle activity in low back pain patients.
This paper proposes a sensorless control method of BLDC motors using line-to-line back-EMFs. Typical sensorless control methods have various problems such as the difficulty in operation at low speed and difficulties in application and so forth. However, the control method using line-to-line back-EMFs that this paper proposes solved not only such problems but also problems of noise and difficulty of commutation detection. The method is to divide line-to-line back EMF into the constant. With 550[W] BLDC motor driving system, simulations and experiments have been carried out for the verification of the proposed control method.
The back projection histogram method has been proposed as the method to construct an image from waves reflected from a buried object for subsurface radar. This method is compose of two phases, i.e., a back projection image construction process and a back projection image superposition process. A simulation analysis of this method has been studied. In this paper, an experimental study is demonstrated in air as the homogeneous Held using three cylinders as buried objects.

An artificial body force method is presented to accurately simulate drawing processes in which back pressing is exerted. A rigid-plastic finite element method is applied together with a numerical scheme to eliminate the numerically incurred plastic deformation in rigid or elastic region, which significantly influences simulation results because it eventually changes reduction of area in drawing. Back tension or compression is applied by body force at the rear part of material to obtain numerically stable solution. Two typical examples are shown, a drawing process with back tension applied and a tube drawing with a fixed plug and back pressing applied.
