  • Phase-locked loops (PLLs) are among the most important mixed-signal building blocks of modern communication and control circuits, where they are used for frequency and phase synchronization, modulation, and demodulation as well as frequency synthesis. The growing popularity of PLLs has increased the need to test these devices during prototyping and production. The problem of distinguishing and classifying the responses of analog integrated circuits containing catastrophic faults has aroused recent interest. This is because most analog and mixed signal circuits are tested by their functionality, which is both time consuming and expensive. The problem is made more difficult when parametric variations are taken into account. Hence, statistical methods and techniques can be employed to automate fault classification. As a possible solution, we use the back propagation neural network (BPNN) to classify the faults in the designed charge-pump PLL. In order to classify the faults, the BPNN was trained with various training algorithms and their performance for the test structure was analyzed. The proposed method of fault classification gave fault coverage of 99.58%.

  • A digital hardware architecture for artificial neural network with learning capability is described in this paper. It is a modified hardware architecture known as HANNIBAL(Hardware Architecture for Neural Networks Implementing Back propagation Algorithm Learning). For implementing an efficient neural network hardware, we analyzed various type of multiplier which is major function block of neuro-processor cell. With this result, we design a efficient digital neural network hardware using serial/parallel multiplier, and test the operation. We also analyze the hardware efficiency with logic level simulation. • A resonable and economical method which can predict permeability of rock mass in underground is needed to overcome the uncertainty of groundwater behavior. For this par pose, one prediction method of permeability has been studied. The artificial neural networks model using error back propagation algorithm, . one of the teaching techniques, is utilized for this purpose. In order to verify the applicability of this model, in-situ permeability results are simulated. The simulation results show the potentiality of utilizing the neural networks for effective permeability prediction of rock mass.

  • This paper presents models of fuzzy inference systems that can be built from a set of input-output training data pairs through hybrid structure-parameter learning. Fuzzy inference systems has the difficulty of parameter learning. Here we develop a coding format to determine a fuzzy neural network(FNN) model by chromosome in a genetic algorithm(GA) and present systematic approach to identify the parameters and structure of FNN. The proposed FNN can automatically identify the fuzzy rules and tune the membership functions by modifying the connection weights of the networks using the GA and the back-propagation learning algorithm. In order to show effectiveness of it we simulate and compare with conventional methods.

  • In this paper a new hybrid forecast method composed of wavelet transform and neural network is proposed to forecast the wind speed more accurately. In the field of wind energy research, accurate forecast of wind speed is a challenging task. This will influence the power system scheduling and the dynamic control of wind turbine. The wind data used here is measured at 15 minute time intervals. The performance is evaluated based on the metrics, namely, mean square error, mean absolute error, sum squared error of the proposed model and compared with the back propagation model. Simulation studies are carried out and it is reported that the proposed model outperforms the compared model based on the metrics used and conclusions were drawn appropriately.

  • This paper presents an attempt to apply Deep Learning technology to solve the problem of forecasting floods in urban areas. We employ Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs), which are suitable for analyzing time series data, to learn observed data of river water and to predict the water level. To test the model, we use water observation data of a station in the Trinity river, Texas, the U.S., with data from 2013 to 2015 for training and data in 2016 for testing. Input of the neural networks is a 16-record-length sequence of 15-minute-interval time-series data, and output is the predicted value of the water level at the next 30 minutes and 60 minutes. In the experiment, we compare three Deep Learning models including standard RNN, RNN trained with Back Propagation Through Time (RNN-BPTT), and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM). The prediction quality of LSTM can obtain Nash Efficiency exceeding 0.98, while the standard RNN and RNN-BPTT also provide very high accuracy.

  • In this paper. we present a neuro-fuzzy controller which unifies both fuzzy logic and multi-layered feed forward neural networks. Fuzzy logic provides a means for converting linguistic control knowledge into control actions. On the other hand. feed forward neural networks provide salient features. such as learning and parallelism. In the proposed neuro-fuzzy controller. the parameters of membership functions in the antecedent part of fuzzy inference rules are identified by using the error back propagation algorithm as a learning rule. while the coefficients of the linear combination of input variables in the consequent part are determined by using the least square estimation method. Finally. the effectiveness of the proposed controller is verified through computer simulation for an inverted pole system.

  • Generally, induction motor controller requires rotor speed sensor for commutation and current control, but it increases cost and size of the motor. So in these days, various researches including speed sensorless vector control have been reported and some of them have been put to practical use. In this paper a new speed estimation method using neural networks is proposed. The optimal neural network structure was tracked down by trial and error, and it was found that the 8-16-1 neural network has given correct results for the instantaneous rotor speed. Supervised learning methods, through which the neural network is trained to learn the input/output pattern presented, are typically used. The back-propagation technique is used to adjust the neural network weights during training. The rotor speed is calculated by weights and eight inputs to the neural network. Also, the proposed method has advantages such as the independency on machine parameters, the insensitivity to the load condition, and the stability in the low speed operation.

  • In this study, artificial neural network is applied to the evaluation of bearing capacity of the PHC auger-drilled piles at sites of domestic decomposed granite soils. For the verification of applicability of error back propagation neural network, a total of 168 data of in-situ test results for PHC auger-drilled plies are used. The results show that the estimation of error back propagation neural network provide a good matching with pile test results by training and these results show the confidence of utilizing the neural networks for evaluation of the bearing capacity of piles.
