The chemical composition and properties of soil were determined at selected sites, such as Loess plateau, Gobi and sand deserts in northern China, where most dust storms occur. Although the transport of this sort of dust storms to Korean peninsula is a well-documented phenomenon, there is not enough information about the very source regions. In this reason, this study tried to measure the chemical composition, including soil elements, anthropogenic elements and ions for soil samples so that certain properties of some major source regions of Asian Dust can be provided. Furthermore, the results are classified into four types of soil like Loess, Loess & sand, Gobi, and sand in order to identify the characteristics and difference among the types. $(X/Al)_{crust}$ values for each soil type were also calculated in this study and compared with those of other references including Asian Dust material(ADM). The results indicated that Ca contribution was higher than Al in all the soil types of this study including ADM and, compared with the values of urban area, contribution of anthropogenic elements such as Cr, Pb, Zn was quite low. However, it must be noted that there is such a variation in the result of soil composition, but it is also certain that the very source region soil composition resolved from this study could support the enhanced study on Asian Dust phenomenon in Korea.
In this study, tin phosphate glass system($SnO_2-(1-x)P_2O_5-xB_2O_3$) that occur during the melting of the metal oxide inhibition of the oxidation reaction, and to reduce oxides of high melting temperature in the following three methods were melting. The first is the general way in the atmosphere, and the second by injecting $N_2$ gas under a neutral atmosphere, and finally in the air were melted by the addition of a reducing agent Melt in the atmosphere when the oxidation of the metal oxide is inhibited by low temperatures were melting. In addition, the deposition of crystals within glassy or inhibit devitrification phenomenon is also improved over 80% transmittance. This phenomenon, when the melting of glass, many of $Sn^{4+}$ ions are reduced to the $Sn^{2+}$ was forming oxides SnO, because it acts as a modifier oxide.
4H-SiC un diodes with field limiting rings(FLRs) were fabricated and characterized. The dependences of reverse breakdown voltage on the number of FLRs, the distance between p-base main junction and first FLR, and activation temperatures, were investigated. Al and B ions were implanted and activated at high temperature to form p-base region and p+ region in the n-epilayer. We have obtained up to 1782V of reverse breakdown voltage in the un diode with two FLRs on loom thick epilayer. The differential on-resistances of the fabricated diode are $5.3m{\Omega}cm^2$ at $100A/cm^2$ and $2.7m{\Omega}cm^2$ at $1kA/cm^2$, respectively. All pn diodes with FLRs have higher avalanche breakdown voltages than that of diode without an FLR. Regardless of the activation temperature, the un diode with a FLR located 5um apart from main junction has the highest mean breakdown voltage around 1600V among the diodes with one ring. On the other hand, the pn diode with two rings showed different behavior with activation temperature. It reveals that high voltage SiC pn diodes with low on-resistance can be fabricated by using the FLR edge termination.
A bacterial strain capable of producing extracellular ${\alpha}$-galactosidase was isolated from a sample of sugarcane industrial waste. Microbiological, physiological, and biochemical studies revealed that the isolate belonged to Bacillus sp. Furthermore, based on a 16S rDNA sequence analysis, the new isolate was identified as Bacillus megaterium VHM1. The production of ${\alpha}$-galactosidase was optimized based on various physical culture conditions. Guar gum and yeast extract acted as the best carbon and nitrogen sources, respectively. The optimum pH was 7.5 and the enzyme remained stable over a pH range of 5-9. The enzyme was optimally active at $55^{\circ}C$ and thermostable with a half-life of 120 min, yet lost 90% of its residual activity within 120 min at $60^{\circ}C$. One mM concentrations of $Ag^2$, $Cu^2$, and $Hg^{2+}$ strongly inhibited the ${\alpha}$-galactosidase, whereas the metal ions $Fe^2$, $Mn^{2+}$, and $Mg^{2+}$ had no effect on the ${\alpha}$-galactosidase activity, and $Zn^{2+}$, $Ni^{2+}$, and $Ca^{2+}$ reduced the enzyme activity slightly. When treated with the B. megaterium VHM1 enzyme, the flatulence-causing sugars in soymilk were completely hydrolyzed within 1.5 h.
The gene encoding Thermus sp. T351 alkaline phosphatase (T351 APase) was cloned and sequenced. The gene consisted of 1,503 bp coding for a protein with 500 amino acid residues including a signal peptide. The deduced amino acid sequence of T351 APase showed relatively low similarity to other Thermus APases. The T351 APase gene was expressed under the control of the T7lac promoter on the expression vector pET-22b(+) in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3). The expressed enzyme was purified by heat treatment, and $UNO^{TM}$ Q and $HiTrap^{TM}$ Heparin HP column chromatographies. The purified enzyme exhibited high activity at extremely alkaline pHs, reaching a maximum at pH 12.0. The optimum temperature of the enzyme was $80^{\circ}C$, and the half-life at $85^{\circ}C$ was approximately 103 min. The enzyme activity was found to be dependent on metal ions: the addition of $Mg^{2+}$ and $CO^{2+}$ increased the activity, whereas EDTA inhibited it. With p-nitrophenyl phosphate as the substrate, T351 APase had a Michaelis constant ($K_{m}$) of $3.9{\times}10^{-5}M$. The enzyme catalyzed the hydrolysis of a wide variety of phosphorylated compounds.

Ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA)/clay nanocomposites were synthesized by blending a solution of ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer containing 12% vinyl acetate abbreviated as EVA-12 in toluene and dispersion of dodecyl ammonium ion intercalated montmorillonite (l2Me-MMT) in N,N-dimethyl acetamide (DMAc). X-ray patterns of sodium montmorillonite ($Na^+$-MMT) and 12Me-MMT exhibited $d_{001}$ peak at $2{\theta}=7.4^{\circ}$ and $2{\theta}=5.6^{\circ}$ respectively; that is, the interlayer spacing of MMT increased by about 0.39 nm due to intercalation of dodecyl ammonium ions. The XRD trace of EVA showed no peak in the angular range of $3-10^{\circ}(2{\theta})$. In the XRD patterns of EVA/clay hybrids with clay content up to 6 wt% the basal reflection peak of 12Me-MMT was absent. leading to the formation of delaminated configuration of the composites. When the 12Me-MMT content was 8 wt% in the EVA-12 matrix, the hybrid revealed a peak at about $2{\theta}=5.6^{\circ}$, owing to the aggregation of aluminosilicate layers. Transmission electron microscopic photograph exhibited that an average size of 12-15 nm clay layers were randomly and homogeneously dispersed in the polymer matrix, which led to the formation of nanocomposite with delaminated configuration. The formation of delaminated nanocomposites was manifested through the enhancement of mechanical properties and thermal stability, e.g. tensile strength of an hybrid containing only 2 wt% 12Me-MMT was enhanced by about 36% as compared with neat EVA-12.
Dehydropeptidase-I (DHP-I) was solubilized from porcine kidney by treatment with n-butanol and partially purified 19.25 fold by $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ precipitation, DEAE-Sepharose CL-6B ion exchange chromatography and Sephacryl S-300 HR chromatography with an overall yield of 19.16. DHP-I showed its optimal activity at pH 7.5 and 25$^{\circ}C$. Its activity was stable under neutral and alkaline conditions, but was disappeared under acidic condition. And DHP-I was heat-labile and its activity remained at 45$^{\circ}C$ for 3hrs. The enzyme was not inhibited by dicationic ions, while its activity was increased by $Co^{2+}$(1mM) and $Zn^{2+}$ (0.1mM). The enzyme was inhibited by EDTA and N-ethylmaleimide. The relative molecular mass of DHP-I was estimated to be approximately 100kDa by gel filtration chromatography. The $K_m$ value of DHP-I for glycyldehydrophenylalanine (GDHP) was 1.98mM. DWP20418 [(1R, 5S, 6S)-6-[1-(R)-Hydroxyethyl]-1-methyl-2-[(2S, 4S)-2-(piperazinylcarbonyl)-1-(R)-hydroxyethyl)pyrrolidine-4-thio]carbapen-2-em-3-carboxylic acid], compared with meropenem (MEPM), was rather easily hydrolized by DHP-I, while it was four times more resistant than imipenem (IPM) to DHP-I.

Nanocrystalline reduced activation ferritic/martensitic (RAFM) steel samples were prepared using surface mechanical attrition treatment (SMAT). Un-SMATed and SMATed reduced activation ferritic/martensitic samples were irradiated by helium ions at $200^{\circ}C$ and $350^{\circ}C$ with 2 dpa and 8 dpa, respectively, to investigate the effects of grain boundaries (GBs) and temperature on the formation of He bubbles during irradiation. Experimental results show that He bubbles are preferentially trapped at GBs in all the irradiated samples. Bubble denuded zones are clearly observed near the GBs at $350^{\circ}C$, whereas the bubble denuded zones are not obvious in the samples irradiated at $200^{\circ}C$. The average bubble size increases and the bubble density decreases with an increasing irradiation temperature from $200^{\circ}C$ to $350^{\circ}C$. Both the average size and density of the bubbles increase with an increasing irradiation dose from 2 dpa to 8 dpa. Bubbles with smaller size and lower density were observed in the SMATed samples but not in the un-SMATed samples irradiated in the same conditions, which indicate that GBs play an important role during irradiation, and sink strength increases as grain size decreases.
The Cu cation binding sites of $[Cu(I){\cdot}d(CpG){\cdot}d(CpG)-2H]^{-1}$ complex have been investigated to explain the $[Cu{\cdot}DNA]$ biological activity caused by the Cu association to DNA. The structure of $[Cu(I){\cdot}d(CpG){\cdot}d(CpG)-2H]^{-1}$ complex was investigated by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). The fragmentation patterns of $[Cu(I){\cdot}d(CpG){\cdot}d(CpG)-2H]^{-1}$ complex were analyzed by MS/MS spectra. In the MS/MS spectra of $[Cu(I){\cdot}d(CpG){\cdot}d(CpG)-2H]^{-1}$ complex, three fragment ions were observed with the loss of d(CpG), {d(CpG) + Cyt}, and {d(CpG) + Cyt + dR}. The Cu cation binds to d(CpG) mainly by substituting the $H^+$ of phosphate group. Simultaneously, the Cu cation prefers to bind to a guanine base rather than a cytosine base. Five possible geometries were considered in the attempt to optimize the $[Cu(I){\cdot}d(CpG){\cdot}d(CpG)-2H]^{-1}$ complex structure. The ab initio calculations were performed at B3LYP/6-31G(d) level.
