  • Rhodamine B Hydrazide as a novel fluorescent and colorimetric probe exhibiting remarkably selective fluorescence enhancement toward Hg2+ ion over other 16 metal ions is herein introduced. The probe reacts with Hg2+ ion followed by its spirolactam ring-opening to give a remarkable enhancement of absorption maximum at 550 nm as well as an enhanced fluorescence intensity at 580 nm in aqueous media. Upon titration with Hg2+ ion in various concentration of 10~200 uM, we found that the probe shows a marked color change from colorless to pink, enabling naked-eye detection toward mercury ion. In addition, in the presence of Hg2+ ion, the probe gave rise to change from non-florescence to strong orange fluorescence (Off-On) with a good linearity of R2=0.97. This preliminary results demonstrate that the fluorescent chemosensor we herein introduced can open a new strategy for marked selective and sensitive detection of mercury ions in contaminated soil containing various metal ions.

  • Recently, PDP barrier ribs require the formation of complex structure so that they are usually formed by etching method. For producing the fine ribs structure, during the etching process the metal ions of matrix (glass) of barrier materials should be understood on the etching mechanism with etching condition. We analyzed the quantity of Pb, Si, and B ions from the etch solution as a function of etching time.

  • A varient strain of budding yeast, Hansenula anomala B-7 which had been identified to be highly resistant to cadmium ions, were observed by transmission electron microscopy. It was shown that the cells accumulated excess amounts of cadmium ions throughout inside the cell rather than on the cell surface. The cell growth in response to cadmium or heat shock stress has also been investigated. It was observed that the cells precultured in the presence of 500 $\mu$ g/ml of Cd ions grew slower than those precultured at 1, 000 $\mu$ g/ml of the metal ions, when they were cultivated in the media containing 1, 000 $\mu$g/ml of the metal ions. Heat shock, however, stimulated the cell growth transiently, when the cells were allowed to grow in the presence of 1, 000 $\mu$g/ml of the metal ions. But the cells given heat shock for more than 100 min received permanent damage to growth. Effects of both stresses on budding rate was also examined. It revealed that the stresses did not change the budding ratio much, which was contradictory to that observed from the same budding yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Furthermore, the cells treated with 1, 000 $\mu$g/ml of the metal ions not only induced, but also switched off the expression of several new proteins. Some of the cadmium stress-inducible proteins were estimated to be also induced by heat shock stress.

  • Solid-state facilitated, olefin transport membranes were prepared by complexation of poly(styrene-b-iso-prene-b-styrene) (SIS) block copolymer and silver salt. Facilitated olefin transport was not observed up to a silver mole fraction of 0.14, representing a threshold concentration, above which transport increased almost linearly with increasing silver salt concentration. This was because firstly the silver ions were selectively coordinated with the C=C bonds of PI blocks up to a silver mole fraction of 0.20, and secondly the coordinative interaction of the silver ions with the aliphatic C=C bond was stronger than that with the aromatic C=C bond, as confirmed by FT-Raman spectroscopy. Small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) analysis showed that the cylindrical morphology of the neat SIS block copolymer was changed to a disordered structure at low silver concentrations ($0.01{\sim}0.02$). However, at intermediate silver concentrations ($0.15{\sim}0.20$), disordered-ordered structural changes occurred and finally returned to a disordered structure again at higher silver concentrations (>0.33). These results demonstrated that the facilitated olefin transport of SIS/silver salt complex membrancs was significantly affected by their coordinative interactions and nano-structural morphology.

  • Recently, we reported that significant ion loss occurred prior to its detection in the conventional single particles mass spectrometry and more seriously the loss is ion-kinetic-energy-dependent. These lead to significant error in the measured chemical composition of nanoparticles. Here we attempted to design a novel ion optics that is capable of 100% detection of ions generated from single nanoparticle. Using a commercial software SIMION, we simulated the trajectories of ions launched at different speeds inside the previous single particle mass spectrometer We tested how affect changes in shape of repelling plate, adding Einzel lens, substitution of tube electrode between extraction and acceleration grids. As a results, we could find a best design by assembling the trials in the present condition.

  • A new chemosensor based on rhodamine B (1) for $Hg^{2+}$ and $Cu^{2+}$ was synthesized by one-step condensation reaction of rhodamine B hydrazide and Azo dye. Studying for its fluorogenic and colorimetric behaviors towards various metal ions, extreme sensitivity and selectivity were achieved by the detection of $Hg^{2+}$ and $Cu^{2+}$ over other commonly coexistent metal ions, which were accompanied by ring opening of a rhodamine spirocycle framework. In acetonitrile, the presence of $Hg^{2+}$ and $Cu^{2+}$ induces the formation of a Dye 1-ion complex, which was deduced by spectroscopy.

  • The spherical nonagglomerated and uniform nanometer-size SiO$_2$particles are synthesized by the injection of TEOS vapor, irons and reaction gas in a furnace. Ions are generated by corona discharge and these ions charge SiO$_2$particles. As a result, spherical, nonagglomerated and ultrafine particles are generated in various conditions. Their morphology, charging portion and size distribution are examined by using TEM, ESP and SMPS. As the applied voltage of electrode changes from 0 to 5.0 kV, it is observed that the melon diameter of SiO$_2$particle decreases from 94 nm to 42 nm.

  • M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectra of hexagonal $BaFe_{12}O_{19}$ single crystals were studied at various temperatures (4-300 K). It was found that the spin states in Fe atoms were parallel to the ${\gamma}$-ray's direction into a single crystal along the caxis. The location of the Fe ion in the 2b site is unusual in an oxide structure and has strong anisotropic lattice vibrations. Moreover, at room temperature, the zero absorption lines of the Fe ions at the 2b site were observed due to fast diffusion motion in a double well atomic potential. The two Fe ions of the single crystal mainly enter into the sites in the mirror plane of the trigonalbipyramidal structure.

  • In the formation of the shallow p$^{+}$-n junction, the preamorphization method by As$^{+}$ ions was applied in order to avoid the boron channeling effect which is occured during the B$^{+}$ implantation especially with low energy. By As$^{+}$ pre-implant with 60KeV energy and 2*10$^{14}$ cm$^{-2}$ dose, the channelinf of B$^{+}$ ions implanted with 10keV/1.5*10$^{14}$ cm$^{-2}$ can be avoded completely. After the RTA of 1050.deg. C and 10sec, the junction depth was 0.14.mu.m, the leakage current was 20nA/cm$^{2}$(at-5V bias) and the sheet resistance was 107.OMEGA./ㅁ. And the preamorphized Si layer was changed into the perfect crystal si after the RTA.r the RTA.

  • In this short report (before the authors would like to introduce an important application for one of the techniques of complex angular momentunm, say, Regge Pole approach, to nuclear fusion reaction for Light-ions: it will be reported in forthcoming papers), two kinds of thermalnuclear fusion reaction sources are introduced and discussed (A) the case of fusion: the production of neutron and target of Deuteron and (B) the case of fusion: the production of proton and target of Deuteron. Nuclear fusion reactions for Light-ions , such as the thermalnuclear energy sources and fuel cycles, are already well known. Fusion reactions are widely known as being extremly important and nationally vital (in point of view of nuclear weapons we must reconsider seriously development and building of such dangerous weapons) for our next generations in the future. This paper (a topics in review) is concerned with a simple introduction about a new nuclear fusion reaction of the above case of (B) for the second generation. Typical thermalnuclear fusion reactions which result in the release of huge amount of energy are nuclear stripping reactions:
