This study presents the shape creation process using L-system model of morphogenesis technique. In general, L-system model has been applied to represent the visualization of biological plant. But, this study proposes the shape generation process of L-system model to apply the architectural field. The L-system model consists of two parts such as string generation step and string analysis step. The string generation step shows the process for a string rewriting. This step requires alphabet, axiom and rules to generate a string. Also, the string analysis step gives the meaning in string to generate various forms. Especially, through the various application examples, we can find out the shape creation models for the space structures.

In this paper the independence axiom, one of two principal axioms of axiomatic design theory, is applied to the leveling system development as an design criteria. After functional requirements and corresponding design parameters constitute an initial design matrix for the leveling system, sequence, which is compatible with the independence axiom, of the design parameters of the design matrix is determined and independent components of block leveling system are revealed. As a result of axiomatic design, system configuration related to the design sequence is developed. In order to verify and validate the developed block leveling system, test with real hull block leveling work in site by using total station which is used to acquire three dimensional coordinate of target point is performed. Comparison with measured data and output data from the block leveling system shows the system accuracy is under 1 mm so that the developed system is verified and validated to be used in site.
The ideals of the rings of integers are used to induce rational number system as operators(=group homomorphisms). We modify this inducing method to be effective in teaching rational numbers in secondary school. Indeed, this modification provides a nice model for explaining the equality property to define addition and multiplication of rational numbers. Also this will give some explicit ideas for students to understand the concept of 'field' efficiently comparing with the integer number system.

Recently, much attention is imposed on the design of the fuel assemblies in the Pressurized Light Water Reactor (PWR). Spacer grid is one of the main structural components in a fuel assembly. It supports fuel rods, guides cooling water, and maintains a coolable geometry from the external impact loads. In this research, a new shape of the spacer grid is designed by the axiomatic approach. The Independence axiom is utilized for the design. For conceptual design, functional requirements (FRs) are defined and corresponding design parameters (DPs) are found to satisfy FRs in sequence. Overall configuration and shapes are determined in this process. Detail design is carried out based on the result of the axiomatic design. For the detail design, the system performances are evaluated by using linear and nonlinear finite element analysis. The dimensions are determined by optimization. Some commercial codes are utilized for the analysis and design.

The monitor product is packed by cushioning materials because the monitor can be broken during transportation. However, the addition of the cushioning material increased the volume of the product. Therefore, it is required that the usage of cushioning material be minimized. In practice, design engineers have followed the ad hoc design with experiences of predecessors. Automation of the design process is very important for the reduction of engineering cost, and can be achieved by an excellent design process and software development. According to Axiomatic design, a design flow is defined and a software system is developed for automated design. At first, a basic model is defined. A user can modify the model from menus and design is carried out according to the input from the user. Finite element models are automatically generated based on the design. A nonlinear finite element analysis program called LS/DYNA3D is linked for the impact analysis. The process of Design of Experiments using orthogonal array is installed to minimize the maximum acceleration in drop test. Therefore, a new design can be proposed by the system. The program is designed according to the Independence Axiom of Axiomatic design. FRs and DPs of the software system are defined and decomposed by zigzagging process. Independent modules can be generated by analysis of the full design matrix and each module is coded as class in Object Oriented Programming (OOP). Design results are discussed.
Providing a semantic knowledge system using media ontologies requires not only conventional axiom reasoning but also knowledge extension based on various types of reasoning. In particular, spatio-temporal information can be used in a variety of artificial intelligence applications and the importance of spatio-temporal reasoning and expression is continuously increasing. In this paper, we append the LOD data related to the public address system to large-scale media ontologies in order to utilize spatial inference in reasoning. We propose an RDFS/Spatial inference system by utilizing distributed memory-based framework for reasoning about large-scale ontologies annotated with spatial information. In addition, we describe a distributed spatio-temporal SPARQL parallel query processing method designed for large scale ontology data annotated with spatio-temporal information. In order to evaluate the performance of our system, we conducted experiments using LUBM and BSBM data sets for ontology reasoning and query processing benchmark.
In order to derive hidden information (concept subsumption, concept satisfiability and realization) of OWL ontology, a number of OWL reasoners have been introduced. The most of these ontology reasoners were implemented using the tableau algorithm. However most reasoners simply report this information without providing a justification for any arbitrary entailment and unsatisfiable concept derived from OWL ontologies. The purpose of this paper is to investigate an optimized method for non-deterministic rule of the tableau algorithm and finding axioms to cause inconsistency in ontology. In this paper, therefore, we propose an optimized method for non-deterministic rule and finding axiom to cause inconsistency using NATMS. In the first place, we introduce Dependency Directed Backtracking to deal non-deterministic rule, a tableau-based decision procedure to find unsatisfiable axiom Furthermore we propose an improved method adapting NATMS.
Current trend of design technologies shows engineers to objectify or automate the given decision-making process. The numerical optimization is an example of such technologies. However, in numerical optimization, the uncertainties are uncontrollable to efficiently objectify or automate the process. To better manage these uncertainties, Taguchi method, reliability-based optimization and robust optimization are being used. Based on the independence axiom of axiomatic design theory that illustrates the relationship between desired specifications and design parameters, the designs can be classified into three types: uncoupled, decoupled and coupled. To best approach the target performance with the maximum robustness is one of the main functional requirements of a mechanical system. Most engineering designs are pertaining to either coupled or decoupled ones, but these designs cannot currently accomplish a real robustness thus a trade-off between performance and robustness has to be made. In this research, the game theory will be applied to optimize the trade-off.

In order to execute the major role as the high density large capacity data storage device, which is one of the major characteristics of DVD(Digital Versatile Disk), there must be a method to effectively absorb the external impact or internal vibration. The DVD which has been developed until now tries to control two different types of vibrations, using only one absorber. But this goes against the independence Axiom of Axiomatic Approach which makes the design to be coupled. And in fat most of the malfunctions occurring during DVD data input/output is due to impact or vibration. Therefore in this paper, the vibration absorption system and operation reliability of DVD will be evaluated with the Axiomatic Approach and plans and feasibility to design an improved vibration absorption system will be provided also based on the Axiomatic Approach.

The micro-gripper system is one of the systems that should be improved in the respect of performance for practical usage. In the previous works, the important issues are considered and presented using axiomatic design approach. In this paper, the functional requirements and design parameters are evaluated in order to improve the performance and efficiency of the system. The evaluation is a very difficult task since many variables are related to the outcomes. To provide a basis for correct design decisions, axiomatic design principles have been advanced. Since the framework of axiomatic design makes design issues easier to understand when they are analyzed, we used those as an evaluation tool. The object of the system is to handle micro-size parts. Main device is a micro-gripper using two bender-typed and one stack-typed PZTs as actuators. And it has three tips made of tungsten wires fur holding function. Also the system must satisfy other functional requirements for appropriate handling performance. The results of this study show design improvements of micro-gripper system such as structural change of gripper, additional element, and integration of physical parts. Axiomatic design guides presented suitable design parameters corresponding to functional requirements and made the design elements improve through diagrams of whole system.
