  • A study on the change of mechanical properties and oxidation behavior of Zircaloy-4 fuel cladding after exposing at 90$0^{\circ}C$ and $1000^{\circ}C$ for various periods of exposure time under the steam atmosphere was carried out. The growth of the $ZrO_2$ layer combined with an oxygen-rich-phase layer into the Zircaloy tube material can be described by an expression, E = 1.1√Dt + $2 $\times$ 10^{-4}$ . The tensile strength of Zircaloy tubes increased for a short period of exposure time and decreased rapidly with further exposure while the hoop strength was not decreased greatly. In the meantime, the axial and circumferential elongations of oxidized Zircaloy tubes were decreased drastically with increasing exposure time as a result of embrittlement phenomena.

  • Rotordynamic analysis of a multistage turbine pump using finite element method is performed to investigate the effects of seal wear on Its system behavior. Stiffness and damping coefficients of the 2-axial grooved bearing are obtained as functions of rotating speed. Stiffness and damping coefficients of plane annular seals are calculated as functions of rotating speed as well as seal clearance. As the clearance of seals become larger, these stiffness and damping coefficients decrease drastically so that there can be significant changes in whirl natural frequencies and damping characteristics of the pump rotor system. Although a pump is designed to operate with a sufficient seperation margin from the 1st critical speed, seal wear due to long operation may cause a sudden increase in nitration amplitude by resonance shift and reduce seal damping capability.

  • Using a coupled thermal-mechanical analysis, the dynamic distortion of the ventilated disk brakes has been presented for a high-speed train. The offset ratio between the maximum and minimum values of the thermal distortions has been analyzed as a function of a braking number. The computed FEM results show that the offset ratios in radial direction are much greater than those of circumferentially distorted components. This means that the axial distortions in radial direction may dominantly produce thermally caused wears and cracks at the rubbing surfaces.

  • An adhesively bonded power steering cylinder with a steel tube and an aluminum bracket was developed to reduce the weight of steering systems. To achieve the joint strength between the steel tube and of the aluminum bracket, the shape aluminum bracket re-designed by using the FE-analysis. Fracture behavior of the adhesive layer was considered by a cohesive zone model(CZM), which is based on the two-parameter fracture phenomenon with critical stress and fracture toughness. From the result of FE-analysis with CZM, re-designed power steering cylinder satisfied the desired joint strength for axial and torsion modes. And its joint strength was verified by the fracture test in each mode.

  • Spray characteristics of a fuel injector have an important effect upon engine power and emission. Thus this study was investigated the spray characteristics of the intermittent injection using a gasoline fuel injector. Image processing system and PDA system were utilized for visualization of a spray behavior and measurements of a droplet size and velocity, respectively. Fuel injection duration was fixed with 3ms and injection pressure was varied such as 250kPa, 300kPa, 350kPa. for a high fuel injection pressure, spray tip arrival time was fluctuated at a vigorously disintegrated cross section. Axial velocity was linear correlated with fuel droplet size in the time interval of an injected main spray at spray downstream.

  • Passage of time axial shortening in the cores and columns of tall concrete buildings requires special attention to ensure proper behavior for strength of the structure and the nonstructural element. The effects of column shortening, both elastic and inelastic, take on added significance and need special consideration in design and construction with increased height of structures. In this paper, the compensation method of column shortening for reinforced concrete structure are introduced. It could be concluded that the survey is a significant factor for the compensation instance of column shortening.

  • This work presents the Thermal Hydraulic analysis has been performed for a 19-pin wire-spacer fuel assembly using three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations. SST model is used as a turbulence closure. The whole fuel assembly has been analyzed for one period of the wire-spacer using periodic boundary condition at inlet and outlet of the calculation domain. The overall results far a preliminary calculation show a good agreement with the experimental observations. It has been found that the major unidirectional flows are the axial velocity in sub-channels and the peripheral sweeping flows and the velocities are found to be following a cyclic path of period equal to the wire-wrap pitch. The temperature is found to be maximum in the central region and also, there exist a radial temperature gradient between the fuel rods. The major advantage of performing this kind of analysis is the prediction of thermal-hydraulic behavior of a fuel assembly with much ease.

  • This paper experimentally investigates the seismic performance of RC columns retrofitted with Super Reinforcement with Flexibility (SRF), which is a polyester fiber reinforced polymer. A total of three specimens with a scale factor of 1/2 were constructed and tested in order to assess the structural behavior of the retrofitted RC columns. One specimen was a non-seismically designed column without any retrofit, while others were retrofitted with either one or two layers of the polyester belt with urethane as the adhesive. Static cyclic testing with a constant axial load was conducted to assess the seismic performance of the retrofitted RC columns. It is concluded that the SRF retrofitting method increases the strength and ductility of the RC columns and can also impact on the failure mode of the columns.

  • Membrane, cable structure and membrane-cable structural system are more lighter than another common structural system, and these are able to be effectively build Lip spatial structures using axial stiffness. However when the load reach at critical load level, it might be happened snap-through or bifurcation according to the structure's shape, and these collapse mechanism should be very important in the design of structures. So, In this paper we study static instability of Zetlin-type cable dome, one of the hybrid cable dome. Moreover, as the unstable behavior of shell structures are very sensitive to the initial condition, we seek to find the effect of initial condition.
