The purpose of this study was to examine the awareness of two major groups of early childhood teachers, (that is, kindergarten teachers and nursery teachers), in terms of the image of what constitutes an early childhood teacher. More specifically, this study sought to investigate any possible gaps between the two groups in that aspect, in an effort to shed light on (and understand in greater detail), the awareness of the two groups regarding the image of early childhood teachers in detail. The subjects in this study comprised 310 early childhood teachers, out of which 156 teachers worked in kindergartens and 154 teachers worked in daycare centers in Busan, Ulsan and South Gyeongsang Province. The findings of the study were as follows : First, kindergarten teachers' images of a kindergarten teacher were mostly associated with the professional domain, followed by the domain of personality, a physical domain and a professional attitude domain. As a result of checking the awareness of the nursery teachers regarding the image of a kindergarten teacher in more detail, their image of a kindergarten teacher appeared to be mostly associated with the professional domain, followed by the professional attitude domain, the domain of personality and the physical domain. There were statistically significant gaps between the kindergarten teachers and the nursery teachers in terms of their image of a kindergarten teacher. Second, as for the awareness of the kindergarten teachers of the image of a nursery teacher, their image of a nursery teacher was mostly linked to the domain of personality, followed by the professional domain, the physical domain and the professional attitude domain. Regarding the awareness of the nursery teachers of the image of a nursery teacher, their image of a nursery teacher was mostly associated with the professional domain, followed by the domain of personality, the professional attitude domain and the physical domain. Statistically significant gaps between the kindergarten teachers and the nursery teachers were found in the image of a nursery teacher.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the awareness of implant wearers about periodontal diseases and implant management, which were closely linked to implant durability, in an effort to obtain information on the right directions for oral health education related to implant self-care and specialized care. Methods : The subjects in this study were 217 patients who wore implant and visited 14 different dental hospitals and clinics in the metropolitan area. After a questioaire survey was conducted and collected data were analyed by the statistical package SPSS 18.0. Results : As for the awareness of the subjects on the regeneration of alveolar ridge by general characteristics, there were statistically significant intergroup gaps according to the number of possessed implant, implant satisfaction and subjective gingival health status(p<0.05). Regarding their awareness of implant durability by general characteristics, there were statistically significant gaps according to the number of possessed implant and oral health education experience(p<0.05). Concerning their awareness of the cycle of regular implant checkup by general characteristics, there were statistically significant gaps according to occupation, subjective gingival health status and oral health education experience(p<0.05). Conclusions : The above-mentioned findings suggest that in order to ensure the long-term safe maintenance of implant, the way of looking at periodontal diseases and implant management should be changed. Specifically, more intensive oral health education should be provided for implant wearers to be aware of the importance of self-care and specialized care to change their oral health behavior, and clinical dental hygienists should improve their role performance to make it happen.
Purpose: This study was to explore the gap between awareness and performance toward evidence-based pain management in older adults for the purpose of establishing baseline data for evidence-based pain management protocol development and dissemination. Methods: The subjects were 290 staff nurses from three general hospitals. Self administered questionnaires were used to collect the data and the results of the study were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation. Results: There were statistically significant differences between awareness and performance in pain assessment (t=17.31, $p$ <.001), patient and family education (t=17.33, $p$ <.001), pharmacologic management (t=12.99, $p$ <.001), non pharmacological management (t=16.28, p<.001), and evaluation of effectiveness (t=11.70, $p$ <.001). There were also statistically significant differences in awareness and performance according to the workplace, knowledge, and usual performance. Conclusion: The study showed that the hospital nurses' performance about evidence-based pain management in older adults was lower than their awareness level thus indicating significant gaps between evidence and actual practice. To ensure effective pain care, the factors contributing to these gaps need to be analyzed to identify the barriers. In addition, the evidence-based pain management guideline suitable for various clinical settings needs to be developed and disseminated.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the influential factors for denture-wearing elderly people's denture satisfaction and subjective oral health and the relationship between the two in an effort to provide some information on the oral health promotion of the elderly. The subjects in this study were 192 senior citizens who were residing in the city of Busan and were wearing denture. Methods : The collected data were analyzed by the statistical package SPSS 18.0. To see whether there would be any differences in subjective oral health awareness according to general characteristics and denture-related characteristics, $x^2$-test was carried out, and t-test or one-way ANOVA involving Duncan post-hoc analysis was utilized to look for any possible gaps in denture satisfaction according to those characteristics. Results : 1. Concerning oral health awareness by general characteristics, there were significant differences according to gender and the form of health insurance subscription. 2. Purpose: The present international survey among healthcare providers aimed to collect data on theoretical knowledge and clinical practices in the diagnosis and management of cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA) and lactose intolerance (LI) in infants. Methods: A global survey was conducted in several countries with diverse health care settings. The survey consisted of multiple-choice questions in 3 main domains: (1) understanding and clinical practices around CMPA and LI; (2) case scenarios; and (3) disease-specific knowledge and potential educational needs. Results: Responses were available from 1,663 participants. About 62% of respondents were general practitioners or general pediatricians, and the remainder were pediatric allergists/gastroenterologists (18%) or other health practitioners (20%). The survey identified knowledge gaps regarding the types of CMPA (IgE-mediated vs. non-IgE-mediated) and the clinical overlap with LI. The survey suggested diverse clinical practices regarding the use of hypoallergenic formulas, as well as misconceptions about the prebiotic benefits of lactose in extensively hydrolyzed formulas in non-breastfed infants with CMPA. Responses to the two case scenarios highlighted varying levels of awareness of the relevant clinical practice guidelines. While respondents generally felt confident in managing infants with CMPA and LI, about 80% expressed an interest for further training in this area. Conclusion: The current survey identified some knowledge gaps and regional differences in the management of infants with CMPA or LI. Local educational activities among general and pediatric healthcare providers may increase the awareness of clinical practice guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of both conditions and help improve clinical outcomes.
