The remote control mobile robot is the robot accomplishing a task according to the orders giving by a user through departed communication system using a joystick. Basically, to supply a lot of information, as this type of robot uses visual information, the user can check the transmitted information by eyes and give orders to the robot. But the weak point of this type of robot is that it has a possibility to come into a collision with an obstacle not be seen to the user because of the communication delay occurring in a communication system and dead zone happening in visual information. To solve the problem, in this paper, we try to suggest a system applying a fuzzy control system to the robot to avoid collision with an obstacle by an immediate order of the user. The fuzzy control system has better performance than any other existing control methods in the change of noise and parameter. And it is more efficient than any other since it solves easy the complexity of the system analysis occurring because of the nonlinear feature of the mobile robot system. In this paper, we made experiments how the mobile robot controlled by the fuzzy control system avoids an obstacle, tracks the path and avoids the obstacle in the path, to prove the performance and to check the evaluation and the application possibility of the fuzzy control system.

In this paper, we propose Low Energy Service Discovery (LESD) protocol for common discovery mode of IEEE 802.15.8 Peer Aware Communications (PAC). In order to minimize power consumption, Basic Repetition Block (BRB) is defined. Device is able to select operating mode and synchronize other devices through it. Proposed MAC procedure is Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) based on overhearing technique. Even if device has not been received response signal since transmitted request signal, it is able to discover other devices of same group through the overhearing technique. IEEE 802.15.8 PAC has required that performances of common discovery mode are presented about discovered devices during the simulation time, discovery latency and average power consumption. By considering the number of devices per group and channel environment, two scenarios are evaluated through system level simulation and the simulation results of proposed scheme are compared with CSMA/CA in same simulation conditions. As a result, proposed scheme is able to get high energy efficiency of devices as well as increase the number of discovered devices during simulation time when the longer the number of devices is distributed over a limited area.

The current collision warning and avoidance system(CWAS) is one of the representative Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) that significantly contributes to improve the safety performance of a vehicle and mitigate the severity of an accident. However, current CWAS mainly have focused on preventing a forward collision in an uninterrupted flow, and the prevention performance near intersections and other various types of accident scenarios are not extensively studied. In this paper, the safety performance of Vision-Sensor (VS) and Radar-Sensor(RS) - based collision warning systems are evaluated near an intersection area with the data from Naturalistic Driving Study(NDS) of Second Strategic Highway Research Program(SHRP2). Based on the VS and RS data, we newly derived sixteen vehicle-to-vehicle accident scenarios near an intersection. Then, we evaluated the detection performance of VS and RS within the derived scenarios. The results showed that VS and RS can prevent an accident in limited situations due to their restrained field-of-view. With an accident prevention rate of 0.7, VS and RS can prevent an accident in five and four scenarios, respectively. For an efficient accident prevention, a different system that can detect vehicles'movement with longer range than VS and RS is required as well as an algorithm that can predict the future movement of other vehicles. In order to further improve the safety performance of CWAS near intersection areas, a communication-based collision warning system such as integration algorithm of data from infrastructure and in-vehicle sensor shall be developed.

The wireless transmission medium inherently broadcasts a signal to all neighbor nodes in the transmission range. Existing asynchronous MAC protocols do not provide a concrete solution for reliable broadcast in link layer. This mainly comes from that an omnidirectional broadcasting causes to reduce the network performance due to the explosive collisions and contentions. This paper proposes a directional broadcast protocol by using neighborhood information in the link layer based o,1 directional antennas, named MNDB (MAC protocol with Neighborhood for reliable Directional Broadcast). This protocol makes use of neighborhood information and DMACA (Directional Multiple Access and Collision Avoidance) scheme through 4-way handshake to support a reliable directional broadcast. To analyze its performance, MNDB protocol si compared with $RMDB^{[1]}$, the protocol 2 of reference [3], and IEEE 802.11 $protocol^{[9]}$, in terms of the number of collisions, the number of dropped packets, the number of redundant packets, and broadcast delay.

In this paper, we present the results of the performance statistical analysis of the multi-robot formation control based on receding horizon particle swarm optimization (RHPSO). The formation control problem of multi-robot system can be defined as a constrained nonlinear optimization problem when considering collision avoidance between robots. In general, the constrained nonlinear optimization problem has a problem that it takes a long time to find the optimal solution. The RHPSO algorithm was proposed to quickly find a suboptimal solution to the optimization problem of multi-robot formation control. The computational complexity of the RHPSO increases as the number of candidate solutions and generations increases. Therefore, it is important to find a suboptimal solution that can be used for real-time control with minimal candidate solutions and generations. In this paper, we compared the formation error according to the number of candidate solutions and the number of generations. Through numerical simulations under various conditions, the results are analyzed statistically and the minimum number of candidate solutions and the minimum number of generations of the RHPSO algorithm are derived within the allowable control error.

The forward collision of vehicles in high speed can cause a chain collisions and high fatality rate. Most of the forward collisions are caused by insufficient braking distance due to detection time of driver and safe distance. Also, accumulated detection time of driver is cause of chain collisions after the forward collision. The FVCWS prevents the forward collision by maintaining the safety distance inter-vehicle and reducing detection time of driver. However the FVCWS can cause chain collisions because the system that interacts only forward vehicle has accumulated detection time of driver. In this paper, we analyze forward and chain collisions of normal vehicles and FVCWS vehicles on static traveling scenario. And then, we analyze and compare V2V based FVCWS with them after explaining the system. The V2V FVCWS reduces detection time of driver alike FVCWS as well as remove accumulated detection time of driver by broadcasting emergence message to backward vehicles at the same time. Therefore, the system decrease possibility of forward and chain collisions. All backward normal vehicles and 3~4 backward FVCWS vehicles have possibility of forward and chain collisions in result of analysis. However V2V FVCWS vehicles almost do not chain collisions in the result.

In this paper, we will introduce the system that can control multiple vehicles on the road through Single Board Computers and V2I (Vehicle-To-Infrastructure). Also, we will propose the group evasive maneuver decision algorithm, which plays a critical role in deciding whether the vehicles in the system have to conduct evasive maneuvers to avoid obstacles on the road. In order to test this system, we have utilized Wi-Fi and TCP/IP for establishing the communication between multiple vehicles and the relay server, and observed their driving states on the road with obstacles. During the experiments, we have discovered that our original decision algorithm possesses high failure rate when there is frequency interference in ISM (Industrial Scientific Medical) band. In order to reduce this failure rate, we have implemented the data transition detector. This paper will focus on how the use of data transition detector can affect the reliability of the system under the frequency interference of ISM band. If this technology is improved and applied in the field, we will effectively deal with such dangerous situations as multiple collision accidents through vehicle-to-vehicle communication or vehicle-to-infrastructure communication. Furthermore, this can be applied to the autonomous driving technologies. This can be used as the reference data for the development of the similar system.

This paper introduces a test bed for communication protocol schemes of underwater acoustic sensor network, and also shows experimental results obtained from the test bed. As a testing protocol, carrier sense multiple access/collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) is evaluated on underwater acoustic channel. A sensor node is equipped with a DSP control board of ATmega2560 and a commercial underwater modem produced by Benthos. The control board not only manipulates a GPS signal to acquire the information of location and time, but also controls the underwater modem to operate according to the procedure designed for a given testing protocol. Whenever any event takes place such as exchanging control/data packets between underwater modems and acquiring location and timing information, each sensor node reports them through radio frequency (RF) air interface to a central station located on the ground. The four kinds of packets for CSMA/CA, RTS(Request To Send), CTS(Clear to Send), DATA, ACK(Acknowledgement) are designed according to the underwater communication environment and are analyzed through the lake experiment from the point of feasibility of CSMA/CA in underwater acoustic communications.

Recently, various systems have been developed to support ship navigation safety. In order to verify the usefulness of such a system, it is most ideal to try it on a real vessel, but there are many difficulties. As an alternative, usability verification methods applied with modelling and simulation (M&S) techniques are required such as FMSS, which is closest to reality, is very expansive to construct, and there needs the specialized operator. For this reason, this paper proposes a method to verify the navigation safety support system by modeling and simulation techniques based on the Discrete Event System Specification (DEVS) formalism. As a first step, we designed the navigation simulation architecture based on the SES/MB framework, and details on modelling ship core equipment and navigator agents based on the DEVS. Through this, we are able to implement the navigation simulation system for vessels, and evaluate the effectiveness of navigation safety support elements such as collision avoidance, etc. using developed scenarios.
