Real-Time Kinematic GPS positioning is widely used for many applications.Resolving ambiguities is the key to precise positioning. Integer ambiguity resolution isthe process of resolving the unknown cycle ambiguities of double difference carrierphase data as integers. Two important issues of resolving are efficiency andreliability. In the conventional search techniques, we generally used chi-squarerandom variables for decision variables. Mathematically, a chi-square random variableis the sum of mutually independent, squared zero-mean unit-variance normal(Gaussian) random variables. With this base knowledge, we can separate decisionvariables to several normal random variables. We showed it with related equationsand conceptual diagrams. With this separation, we can improve the computationalefficiency of the process without losing the needed performance. If we averageseparated normal random variables sequentially, averaged values are also normalrandom variables. So we can use them as decision variables, which prevent from asudden increase of some decision variable. With the method using averaged decisionvalues, we can get the solution more quicklv and more reliably. To verify the performance of our proposed algorithm, we conducted simulations. We used some visual diagrams that are useful for intuitional approach. We analyzedthe performance of the proposed algorithm and compared it to the conventionalmethods.

We propose and experimentally demonstrate an effective method to reduce near-field speckle noise at the output of a 50 ${\mu}m$ graded index multimode fiber using a short cylindrical piezoelectric transducer(PZT) vibrating in the radial direction. The fiber was coiled as tightly as possible around the mandrel of the PZT and a periodic stretching effect was caused by the radial oscillations of the actuator. The output of the optical fiber using the He-Ne laser source was intensively observed by a CCD camera. By counting all the pixels corresponding to relative intensity graded into 256 levels in the selected area and by calculating standard deviation and mean value of the intensity, we could measure the speckle contrast and vibration effect quantitatively with reduction ratio of pixels and line profile of the illuminated region. It was clearly observed that the characteristics of the speckle pattern in the vibration-on state were significantly improved over that of the vibration-off state due to time-averaged smoothing.

In this study, performance analyses have been conducted for a 5MW class wind turbine blade model. Advanced computational analysis system based on computational fluid dynamics(CFD) and computational structural dynamics(CSD) has been developed in order to investigate detailed dynamic responsed of wind turbine blade. Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations with K-${\epsilon}$ turbulence model are solved for unsteady flow problems of the rotating turbine blade model. A fully implicit time marching scheme based on the Newmark direct integration method is used for computing the coupled aeroelastic governing equations of the 3D turbine blade for fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems. Predicted aerodynamic performance considering structural deformation effect of the blade show different results compared to the case of rigid blade model.

Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equations are solved numerically for the computation of turbulent flow around a Wigley double model. A second order finite difference method is applied for the spatial discretization on the nonstaggered grid system and 4-stage Runge-Kutta scheme for the numerical integration in time. In order to increase the time step, residual averaging scheme of Jameson is adopted. Pressure field is obtained by solving the pressure-Poisson equation with the appropriate Neumann boundary condition. For the turbulence closure, 0-equation turbulence model of Baldwin-Lomax is used. Numerical computation is carried out for the Reynolds number of 4.5 million. Comparisons of the computed results with the available experimental data show good agreements for the velocity and pressure distributions.

The west and south coastal regions of Korea are known to be of strong tidal current speed. With the increasing demand for renewable energies, the resource assessment has been a crucial issue which should be conducted before any detail planning and development of the potential sites for tidal current farm. Although there are several results of resource assessment of tidal current energy in Korea, the resource assessment method is not officially announced. This undefined methodology makes the results unreliable and useless. Recently new renewable energy potential definition has been announced by KIER (Korea Institute of Energy Research). This categorizes energy potential as four steps; theoretical, geographical, technical and market potentials. This paper describes the resource assessment of tidal current power in Korea based on API (Averaged Power Intercepted). The results show that the Incheon-Gyeonggi and Jeollanam-do are very promising areas for tidal current power in Korea.

In this paper, reentering ratio and cooling capacity of individual cooling towers arrayed on a building roof were studied by a numerical method. The number of 16 cooling towers were divided into 4 banks. It was considered the summer prevailing wind characteristics as west wind and south wind of 5 m/s. It was also considered the roofwall types as the curtainwall and the louverwall that had the outdoor air intake louver in the curtainwall. In this case, the louver was suggested as the solution that could prevent reentering phenomenon due to recirculation and interference of the discharge air. In the case of the curtainwall, the averaged reentering ratio are predicted 13.3% and 24.4% for the west and south wind of 5 m/s, respectively. In the case of the louverwall, the averaged reentering ratio are predicted 2.5% and 9.7% for the west and south wind of 5 m/s, respectively. Therefore, the louverwall is a appropriate solution for reducing the reentering phenomenon.
Measured decay heat data of light water reactor (LWR) spent nuclear fuel (SNF) assemblies are adopted to train machine learning (ML) models. The measured data is available for fuel assemblies irradiated in commercial reactors operated in the United States and Sweden. The data comes from calorimetric measurements of discharged pressurized water reactor (PWR) and boiling water reactor (BWR) fuel assemblies. 91 and 171 measurements of PWR and BWR assembly decay heat data are used, respectively. Due to the small size of the measurement dataset, we propose: (i) to use the method of multiple runs (ii) to generate and use synthetic data, as large dataset which has similar statistical characteristics as the original dataset. Three ML models are developed based on Gaussian process (GP), support vector machines (SVM) and neural networks (NN), with four inputs including the fuel assembly averaged enrichment, assembly averaged burnup, initial heavy metal mass, and cooling time after discharge. The outcomes of this work are (i) development of ML models which predict LWR fuel assembly decay heat from the four inputs (ii) generation and application of synthetic data which improves the performance of the ML models (iii) uncertainty analysis of the ML models and their predictions.
Purpose: This study surveyed first-year college students on their knowledge of hypertension and their health behavior to obtain basic data necessary to develop hypertension prevention and management programs. Method: Subjects were 561 first-year students at a college in Chungcheongbuk-do, Korea. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire during the period from 01 October to 08 December 2007. Data analysis involved t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient using SPSS for Windows. Results: Of the total subjects, 149 (26.6%) had a family history of hypertension 253 (45.1%) knew their blood pressure, 365 (65.9%) did not measure blood pressure, and 388 (69.1%) were not interested in knowing their blood pressure. Subjects' knowledge related to hypertension averaged 11.54 points out of 22, hypertension-related health behavior averaged 2.31 points out of 4. With a higher score indicative of increased attention paid to healthy behavior. Conclusion: Knowledge of blood pressure and characteristics of hypertension and management of both blood pressure and hypertension can be inadequate in first-year college students. Increased knowledge of hypertension may lead to better health behavior.
Two methods, the bin averaging method and least square method, are often used in calibrating wind turbine test sites. The objective of this work was to determine a better method to predict the wind speed at wind turbine installing point. The calibration was done at the test site on a complex terrain located in Daegwallyeong, Korea. It was performed for two different cases based on the IEC 61400-12 power performance measurement standard. The wind speeds averaged for 10 minutes ranged between 4 m/s and 16 m/s. The wind-direction bins of each meteorological mast were 10 degrees apart, and only the bins having data measured for more than 24 hours were employed for the test site calibration. For both cases, the two methods were found to yield almost same results which estimated real wind speed very closely.

A matrix converter is used for converting AC/AC power directly. In order to generate sinusoidal input/output waveform in matrix converter, it uses nine bidirectional switches and PWM modulation. This paper presents an analytical averaged loss model of matrix converter with DDPWM(direct duty ratio PWM) and proposes a new switching method for reducing switching losses. A Mathematical loss models with average magnitude of voltage/current are classed as conduction and switching loss. The proposed switching pattern is improved with existing DDPWM. To prove improved efficiency with proposed DDPWM, this paper compares losses between suggested switching pattern and conventional switching pattern using mathematical and simulation method. Each loss types are influenced by environmental factors such as temperature, switching frequency, output current and modulation method.
