The purpose of this study is to evaluate the performance of forward osmosis (FO) system for harvesting microalgae cultivated in secondary sewage effluent. Microalgae species used in this study were chlorella sp. ADE4. The drawing agents used for forward osmosis system were seawater and concentrate of sea water reverse osmosis (SWRO) system. Chlorella sp. ADE4 cultured in secondary sewage effluent illustrated moderate efficiency in removal of total nitrogen (TN) (68%) and superior performance in total phosphorus (TP) removal (99%). Comparison of seawater and SWRO concentrate as drawing agent were made in FO membrane separation of the microalgae. The result from this study depicts that SWRO concentrate is strong drawing agent in FO membrane system providing an average dewatering rate of $4.8L/(m^2{\cdot}hr)$ compared to seawater with average dewatering of $2.9L/(m^2{\cdot}hr)$. Results obtained from this study indicated that FO system could be viable option for harvesting the microalgae for further biodiesel production. SWRO concentrate as a drawing agent could be very important finding in field of membrane technology for disposal of SWRO concentrate.

The present work investigates the local heat transfer characteristics and the associated frictional loss in a rectangular channel with inclined solid and perforated baffles to obtain the basic design data for gas turbine. Five different geometries of baffles such as 1) solid (without hole), 2) three holes, 3) six holes, 4) nine holes, 5) twelve holes were covered. A combination of two baffles of same overall size is used. The flow Reynolds number is ranged from 28,900 to 70,100. The placement of baffles augments the overall heat transfer greatly by combining both jet impingement and the boundary layer separation. The present results show that the average Nusselt number distribution is strongly dependent on number of holes in the baffle plates, i.e., the average Nusselt number increases with increasing number of holes. The friction factor decreases also with increasing the number of holes. however. its value increases with increasing the Reynolds number.
The contents of transuranic elements ($^{237}Np$, $^{238}Pu$, $^{239}Pu$, $^{240}Pu$, $^{241}Am$, $^{244}Cm$, and $^{242}Cm$) in high-burnup spent fuel samples ($35.6{\sim}53.9\;GWd/MtU$) were determined by alpha spectrometry. Anion exchange chromatography and diethylhexyl phosphoric acid extraction chromatography were applied for the separation of these elements from the uranium matrix. The measured values of the nuclides were compared with ORIGEN-2 calculations. For plutonium, the measurements were higher than the calculations by about $2.6{\sim}32.7%$ on average according to each isotope, and those for americium and curium were also higher by about $35.9{\sim}63.1%$. However, for $^{237}Np$, the measurements were lower by about 52% on average for the samples.

Phase averaged velocity fields in the near wake region behind a square cylinder have been (successfully) obtained using randomly sampled PIV data sets. The Reynolds number based on the flow velocity and the vertex height was 3,900. To identify the phase information, we examined the magnitude of circulation and the center of peak vorticity. The center of vorticity was estimated from lowpass filtered vorticity contours (LES decomposition) adopting a sub-pixel searching algirithm. Due to the sinusoidal nature of firculation which is closely related to the instantaneous vorticity, the location of peak voticity fits well with a sine curve of the circulation magnitude. Conditionally-averaged velocity fields represent the barman vortex shedding phenomenon very well within 5 degrees phase uncertainty. The oscillating nature of the separated shear layer and the separation bubble at the top surface are clearly observed. With the hot-wire measurements of Strouhal frequency, we found thats the convection velocity changes its magnitude very rapidly from 25 to 75 percent of the free stream velocity along the streamwise direction when the flow passes by the recirculation region.

Naphthalene sublimation technique is employed to investigate the mass transfer processes from a square cylinder at various Reynolds numbers and various angles of attack. Distribution of the local mass transfer coefficients on each face of the cylinder changes dramatically with the angle of attack. Such variation of local mass transfer rates closely connected with the complex flow phenomena such as stagnation, acceleration, separation, reattachment and vortex shedding. The average Sherwood number has a minimum value at 12.deg.-13.deg., and a maximum value at a=20.deg.-25.deg. A comparison of present mass transfer measurement with other heat transfer measurements, using the heat/mass transfer analogy, shows good agreement in average transfer rates, same trend but notable differences in local values. Therefore, naphthalene sublimation technique can be adopted to explore heat transfer processes in the complex flow situations, which is considered to be hardly possible with the conventional heat transfer measurements.
The influence of the fracture process zone (FPZ) on the fracture properties is one of the hottest topics in the field of fracture mechanics for cementitious materials. Within the FPZ in front of a traction free crack, cohesive forces are distributed in accordance with the softening stress-separation constitutive relation of the material. Therefore, further crack propagation necessitates energy dissipation, which is the work done by the cohesive forces. In this paper $g_f$, the local fracture energy characterizing the energy consumption due to the cohesive forces, is discussed. The computational expression of $g_f$ in the FPZ can be obtained for any stage during the material fracture process regarding the variation of FPZ, whether in terms of its length or width. $G_{fa}$, the average energy consumption along the crack extension region, has also been computed and discussed in this paper. The experimental results obtained from the wedge splitting tests on specimens with different initial notch ratios are employed to investigate the property of the local fracture energy $g_f$ and the average value $G_{fa}$ over the crack extension length. These results can be used to indicate the influence of the FPZ. Additionally, changes in the length of the FPZ during the fracture process are also studied.

Recently an accurate quantification of streamflow under various climatological and anthropogenic factors and separation of their relative contribution remains challenging, because variation in streamflow may result in hydrological disasters. In this study, we evaluated the factors responsible for variation in streamflow in Korean watersheds, quantified separately their contribution using different Budyko-based functions, and identified hydrological breakpoint points. After detecting that the hydrological break point in 1995 and time series were divided into natural period (1966-1995), and disturbed period (1996-2014). During the natural period variation in climate tended to increase change in streamflow. However, in the disturbed period both climate variation and anthropogenic activities tended to increase streamflow variation in the watershed. Subsequently, the findings acquired from different Budyko-based functions were observed sensitive to selection of function. The variation in streamflow was observed in the response of change in climatic parameters ranging 46 to 75% (average 60%). The effects of anthropogenic activities were observed less compared to climate variation accounts 25 to 54% (average 40%). Furthermore, the relative contribution was observed to be sensitive corresponding to Budyko-based functions utilized. Moreover, relative impacts of both factors have capability to enhance uncertainty in the management of water resources. Thus, this knowledge would be essential for the implementation of water management spatial and temporal scale to reduce the risk of hydrological disasters in the watershed.
Airport operations are well-known as a bottleneck in the air traffic system, putting growing pressure on the world's busiest airports to schedule arrivals and departures as efficiently as possible. Effective planning and control are essential for increasing airport efficiency and reducing aircraft delays. Many algorithms for controlling the arrival/departure queuing area are handled, considering it as first in first out queues, where any available aircraft can take off regardless of its relative sequence with other aircraft. In the suggested system, this problem was compared to the problem of scheduling n tasks (plane takeoffs and landings) on a multiple machine (runways). The proposed technique decreases delays (via efficient runway allocation or allowing aircraft to be expedited to reach a scheduled time) to enhance runway capacity and decrease delays. The aircraft scheduling problem entails arranging aircraft on available runways and scheduling their landings and departures while considering any operational constraints. The topic of this work is the scheduling of aircraft landings and takeoffs on multiple runways. Each aircraft's takeoff and landing schedules have time windows, as well as minimum separation intervals between landings and takeoffs. We present and evaluate a variety of comprehensive concepts and solutions for scheduling aircraft arrival and departure times, intending to reduce delays relative to scheduled times. When compared to First Come First Serve scheduling algorithm, the suggested strategy is usually successful in reducing the average waiting time and average tardiness while optimizing runway use.
Mica-type minerals (illites) in the shales of the Jigunsan formation at Seokgaejae in Samchuk-City, Gangwon-do are studied using electron probe micro analysis (EPMA). The average chemical formula of the mica-type mineral obtained from the quantitative analysis is $(K_{1.17}Na_{0.04}Ca_{0.01})(Al_{2.80}Mg_{1.17}Fe_{0.78})(Si_{6.34}Al_{1.66})O_{20}(OH)_4$, which shows a chemical formula within the range of illite. These illites so called can be considered as mixed-phases among muscovite, pyrophyllite and chlorite due to the low contents of interlayer cations and high Mg, Fe. The formula of illite is separated into those three minerals and the method for the separation is newly formulated and proposed in this study. From the formula of illite, the content of muscovite is estimated from K (Na and Ca included), the content of chlorite by Mg+Fe, and the rest remains as pyrophyllite. The chemical formula of muscovite can be calculated by subtracting the compositions of pyrophyllite and chlorite from the analyzed composition of illite using an ideal formula for pyrophyllite and analyzed average formula for chlorite. The calculated formula of muscovite is supposed to be stoichiometric in principle. The result of the separation of analyzed illite is 61% muscovite, 27.3% chlorite and 11.7% pyrophyllite and the calculated formula of muscovite after separation is $(K,Na,Ca)_{2.00}Al_{3.69}(Si_{6.75}Al_{1.25})O_{20}(OH)_4$. The calculated formula of muscovite slightly low in Al content can be considered to be reasonable in general when the low content of Al in the rock and the uncertainties of chlorite compositions used in the calculation are counted. This supports that the method of separation proposed in this study is also applicable.

Characteristics of particle separation in water using labscale acoustic standing wave were studied. Acoustic standing wave is similar to either sound wave or ultrasonic, which makes a constant wave while returning to the origin by reflector. During that time, particulates dispersed in water are collected on the node of wave, where a sound pressure is zero. Acoustic standing wave transducer as of 28.0 kHz and 1.0 MHz were utilized and $6.8{\mu}m$ kaolin and $100.5{\mu}m$ redmud in average diameter were used as experimental materials in water. Once acoustic standing wave are generated in water, water temperature rises by $0.15{\sim}0.20^{\circ}C/min$ due to a sound pressure. Initial concentration of kaolin and redmud were controlled to have same as of 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 g/L, respectively. Removal efficiency of the turbidity in a reacting chamber after 5 minutes, when acoustic sound wave was formed in most distinct, was measured to have 18.2~56.2% for kaolin and 23.0~53.6% for redmud at 1.0 MHz. Particle separation was not observed at 28.0 kHz.
