  • At the current stage of a semi-autonomous vehicle, there are situations in which the vehicle has to request take-over control to the driver quickly. However, current self-driving cars use only simple messages and warning sounds to notify drivers when handing over control, so they do not adequately convey considerations of individual characteristics or explanations of various emergent situations. This study investigated how visual and auditory information and the efficacy of drivers in self-driving cars can improve efficient take-over requests between the car and the driver. We found that there were significant differences in driver's cognitive load, reliability, safety, usability, and usefulness according to the combination of three visual and auditory information provided in the experiment of the take-over request situation. The results of this study are expected to help design self-driving vehicles that can communicate more safely and efficiently with drivers in urgent control transition situations.

  • Unmanned aerial vehicles are gaining in popularity with the development of science and technology, and are being used for a wide range of purposes, including surveillance, rescue, delivery of goods, and data collection. In particular, the ability to avoid obstacles during navigation without human oversight is one of the essential capabilities that a drone must possess. Many works currently have solved this problem by implementing deep reinforcement learning (DRL) model. The essential core of a DRL model is reward function. Therefore, this paper proposes a new reward function with appropriate action space and employs dueling double deep Q-Networks to train a drone to navigate in indoor environment without collision.

  • This paper presents a vision-based robust off-road terrain classification method against environmental variation. As a supervised classification algorithm, we applied a neural network classifier using wavelet features extracted from wavelet transform of an image. In order to get over an effect of overall image feature variation, we adopted environment sensors and gathered the training parameters database according to environmental conditions. The robust terrain classification algorithm against environmental variation was implemented by choosing an optimal parameter using environmental information. The proposed algorithm was embedded on a processor board under the VxWorks real-time operating system. The processor board is containing four 1GHz 7448 PowerPC CPUs. In order to implement an optimal software architecture on which a distributed parallel processing is possible, we measured and analyzed the data delivery time between the CPUs. And the performance of the present algorithm was verified, comparing classification results using the real off-road images acquired under various environmental conditions in conformity with applied classifiers and features. Experiments show the robustness of the classification results on any environmental condition.

  • Compared to terrestrial RF communications, underwater acoustic communications have several limitations such as limited bandwidth, high level of fading effects, and a large underwater propagation delay. In this paper, in order to tackle those limitations of underwater communications and to make it possible to form a large underwater monitoring systems, we propose a hierarchical underwater network architecture, which consists of underwater sensors, clusterheads, underwater/surface sink nodes, autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). In the proposed architecture, for the maximization of packet delivery ratio and the minimization of underwater sensor's energy consumption, a hybrid routing protocol is used. More specifically, cluster members use Tree based routing to transmit sensing data to clusterheads. AUVs on optimal trajectory movements collect the aggregated data from clusterhead and finally forward the data to the sink node. Also, in order to minimize the maximum travel distance of AUVs, an Integer Linear Programming based algorithm is employed. Performance analysis through simulations shows that the proposed architecture can achieve a higher data delivery ratio and lower energy consumption than existing routing schemes such as gradient based routing and geographical forwarding. • In this paper, we have interested in cooperative intelligent transport system and autonomous driving system, and focused on analysis of the characteristics of Cooperative Awareness Message (CAM) and Decentralized Environmental Notification Basis Service (DENM) message, which is key delivery message among cooperative intelligent transport system (C-ITS) characteristics for research objectivity. For research method, we also described V2X communication, and also analyzed the security certificate and header structure of CAM and DENM messages. We described CAM message, which is a message informing the position and status of the vehicle. And the DENM message is presented a message informing an event such as a vehicle accident, and analysis security communication, which is supported services. According to standard analysis result, 186 bits or 275 bits are used. In addition to the security header and the certificate format used for vehicle communication, we have gained the certificate verification procedure for vehicles and PKI characteristics for vehicles. Also We derived the characteristics and transmission capability of the security synchronization pattern required for V2X secure communication. Therefore when it is considered for communication service of DENM and CAM in the C-ITS environment, this paper may be meaningful result.

  • Recently, Autonomous vehicles are getting hot attention. Amazon, the biggest online shopping service provider is developing a delivery system that uses drones. This kinds of platforms are need accurate attitude information for navigation. In this paper, a structure design of AHRS using low-cost inertia sensor is proposed. To estimate attitudes a Kalman filter which uses a quaternion based dynamic model, bias-removed measurements from MEMS Gyro, raw measurements from MEMS accelerometer and magnetometer, is designed. To remove bias from MEMS Gyro, an additional Kalman filter which uses raw Gyro measurements and attitude estimates, is designed. The performance of implemented AHRS is compared with high price off-the-shelf 3DM-GX3-25 AHRS from Microstrain. The Gyro bias was estimated within 0.0001[deg/s]. And from the estimated attitude, roll and pitch angle error is smaller than 0.2 and 0.3 degree. Yaw angle error is smaller than 6 degree.

  • Recent developments in computer graphics technology and image processing technology have increased interest in point cloud technology for inputting real space and object information as three-dimensional data. In particular, point cloud technology can accurately provide spatial information, and has attracted a great deal of interest in the field of autonomous vehicles and AR (Augmented Reality)/VR (Virtual Reality). However, in order to provide users with 3D point cloud contents that require more data than conventional 2D images, various technology developments are required. In order to solve these problems, an international standardization organization, MPEG(Moving Picture Experts Group), is in the process of discussing efficient compression and transmission schemes. In this paper, we provide a region division transfer method of 3D point cloud content through extension of existing MPEG-DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP)-SRD (Spatial Relationship Description) technology, quality parameters are further defined in the signaling message so that the quality parameters can be selectively determined according to the user's request. We also design a verification platform for ROUTE (Real Time Object Delivery Over Unidirectional Transport)/DASH based heterogeneous network environment and use the results to validate the proposed technology.
