  • Flow pulsation in the gap connecting with two parallel channels is investigated by RANS and URANS approaches. The two parallel channels are connected by a small channel called for a gap. The parallel channels are designed to have different cross section area with its ratio of 0.5. Computations are conducted using a CFX 11.0 code. The bulk Reynolds number is 60,000. Predicted results are compared with the previous experimental data. Mean velocity profile at the center of gap region are compared with experiments for its validation. Spectral analysis on the lateral velocity in the center of the gap was performed. Auto correlation for the axial-flow velocity pattern was presented. The unsteady structure of the flow pulsation was visualized in the region of the gap in the parallel channel.

  • The auto-and cross-correlation function, power spectrum, coherence function and Markov model are applied to investigate the statistical characteristics of discharge and each factor of water quality and the interrelation-ship between the variation of discharge and water quality factors. The analysis of discharge, dissolved oxygen and electric conductivity, which were only obtainable data at the Indogyo gagining station in the downstream of the Han River, clearly showed that they hace distinct period of 12 months and three different periods of 6, 4 and 3 months weaker than the former. The cross-correlation between the discharge and water quality(DO, COND) is rather weak and the crosscorrelation function has its peak at lag one. It is considered therefrom that the variation of discharge behaves on water quality facotrs with one day's difference. In the examination of linear regression model for the serial generation and predictive measures, discharge series is fit to first and second order Markov model and DO, COND to first order Markov model.

  • A Rayleigh fading channel simulator that realizes given correlation properties between two channels such as downlink/uplink is described. We propose an improved channel simulator that provides more accurate match between reference correlation and simulated one. The proposed channel simulator is based on a sum-of-sinusoids (SOS) method that handles finite sums of weighted sinusoid functions. SOS method is widely accepted in generating fading signals and obtain the exact match with the reference model if infinite number of weighted sinusoids are used. The proposed channel simulator minimizes mean-square-error (MSE) to obtain a close matched correlation properties.

  • Recently, attention has been paid to the flame diagnostic by noncontact methods which dose not deform the flame shape. One of them is a method which is using the radical luminous intensity. Generally, this diagnostic method using radical luminous has been investigated its reliability by applying to laminar flame. This study, however, investigated each radical luminous signals through stocastical analysis like auto-correlation, cross-correlation, phase and coherence which were acquired from measuring radical luminous intensity of OH, CH, $O_{2}$, radicals in turbulent diffusion flame. To compare radical luminous intensity in flame with temperature, ion current and concentration , radious distribution of each properties was investigated and considered. In radical luminous intensity, correlation in the reaction zone of flame was higher than in correlation in combusted gas zone. And radious distribution of radical luminous intensity was corresponded with radious distribution of temperature, ion current and concentration. The result of the study confirms that a radical luminous flame diagnosis is possible in the turbulent diffusion flame.

  • A two-dimensional optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) en/decoder composed of four double-ring resonator add/drop filters and three delay waveguides is designed, and a transfer matrix method combined with fast Fourier transform is implemented to provide numerical simulations for the en/decoder. The auto-correlation peak level over the maximum cross-correlation level is larger than 3 at the center of the correctly decoded pulse for most of wavelength hopping and spectral phase code combinations, which assures the BER lower than 10-3 which corresponds to the forward error correction limit.

  • This paper analyzes the signal acquisition performance of the legacy GNSS spreading codes and a polyphase code. The code length and chip rate of a polyphase code are assumed to be same as those of the GPS L1 C/A and Galileo E1C codes. The autocorrelation and cross correlation characteristics are analyzed. In addition, a way to calculate a more accurate probability of false alarm for a code with sidelobe non-zero auto-correlation function is proposed. Finally, we estimate the probability of detection and the mean acquisition time for a given signal strength and the probability of false alarm.

  • We have investigated a novel optical decoder for a fiber-optic code division multiple access(CDMA) communication systems. The conventional optical encoder and decoder have the advantage of simple structure. However the number of users in the system is limited by the auto- and cross-correlation properties generated in decoding process. In previous studies, to improve the system performance, although they used an optical code that minimize the sidelobe and cross-correlation, could not yet find a novel methods for performance improvement in fiber-optic CDMA system. Thus, it is necessary to investigate the novel optical decode in order to improve the performance of system. In this paper, we schematize the AND gate logic element(AGLE) composed with 1$\times$2 or 1$\times$3 coupler and the optical thyristor and propose the novel optical decoder using K(weight) AGLE. The optical thyristor only passes the overlapped signal and clips other signals. Such a novel concept means that the optical thyristor can operate as a hard-limiter. We analyze the fiber-optic CDMA system using the novel optical decoder with simulation and is found that the novel optical decoder using the AGLE and optical thyristor excludes the sidelobe and cross-correlation intensity between any two sequences.

  • Algal blooms not only destroy fish habitats but also diminish biological diversity of ecosystem which results into water quality deterioration of 4 major rivers in South Korea. The relationship between algal bloom and environmental factors had been analyzed through the cross-correlation function between concentration of chlorophyll a and other environmental factors. However, time series of cross-correlations can be affected by the stochastic structure such auto-correlated feature of other controllers. In order to remove external effect in the correlation analysis, the pre-whitening procedure was implemented into the cross correlation analysis. The modeling process is consisted of a series of procedure (e.g., model identification, parameter estimation, and diagnostic checking of selected models). This study provides the exclusive correlation relationship between algae concentration and other environmental factors. The difference between the conventional correlation using raw data and that of pre-whitened series was discussed. The process implemented in this paper is useful not only to identify exclusive environmental variables to model Chl-a concentration but also in further extensive application to configure causality in the environment.

  • Soil moisture is defined as water in the pores of the soil's unsaturated zone, and it is closely related to various hydrological processes. This study aims to provide meaningful data by identifying factors affecting soil moisture through comparing soil moisture content and soil permeability in a study area covering six different land use types in an agricultural region that is highly dependent on groundwater. We conduct auto-correlation analysis, spectral density analysis, and cross-correlation analysis using time-series data. Soil moisture content shows to have weak auto-correlation and memory effects, and precipitation appears to have a substantial influence on soil moisture content. Saturation hydraulic conductivity does not vary markedly with changing land use, and instead appears to be affected by the inhomogenous soil structure.

  • Soil moisture plays a pivotal role in hydrological processes, especially in the forest which covers more than 64% of the national land. Soil moisture was monitored to analyze soil moisture change characteristics in terms of time and soil layers in this study. 2 Years soil moisture change data was obtained from the experimental nut pine forest and statistical analysis including auto-correlation and cross-corelation among soil moisture data from different soil layers was conducted. Using the monitored soil moisture data, a relationship between soil moisture change and precipitation was analyzed and seasonal soil moisture change characteristics were analyzed. From the result of inter-relationships among soil layers in terms of season and time lag, soil moisture change characteristics in the nut pine forest were upper soil layers were much sensitive than lowers, and seasonal variation if soil moisture for upper soil layers were bigger than lowers showing low correlation with precipitation in winter and spring due to freezing and snowfalls.
