  • In this study, citation-weighted author profiling (CWAP) was developed as a new method that combines the advantages of both author profiling (AP) method and author co-citation analysis (ACA) method. In AP method, words reflect the author's main topics of study. On the other hand, what words reflect in CWAP is topics that the author mainly influences. This enables detailed topic identification, which is the advantage of AP method, and at the same time determines the subjects in which the author has influence, as with ACA method. The proposed CWAP method was applied experimentally to analyze the intellectual structure of school library research in Korea. The results of the trial application revealed in detail what topics each author has a high influence on, and the change of influence over time was also clearly revealed. The CWAP method proposed in this study is expected to be used as a technique to grasp detailed topics from the viewpoint of research influence on which topics the author has been cited for, not as a research productivity perspective of how many papers the author has published.

  • This study compared Author Profiling Analysis(APA) to Author Co-Citation Analysis (ACA). The former is a new analytic technique on the intellectual structure of a science whereas the latter is a traditional analytic technique. The purpose of this study was to propose appropriate methods to analyze intellectual structure of a science in the Korean research environment. In order to achieve the goal, this study adopted APA using Text Mining for analysis on the intellectual structure of a science rather than relying on citation index in order to determine a potential utility of the new analytic technique that can identify the intellectual structure.

  • This study aims to analyze electronic records research domains and trends and to suggest future direction of electronic records research in Korea. One hundred and sixty one articles published in seven domestic journals from 1999 to 2011 were statistically analysed to find out the productivity of electronic records research. Analysis of intellectual structure using descriptor profiling and author profiling as a technique of text mining were performed with those same papers. Some proposals on the future research direction in this field were made.

  • This study aims to analyze research domains and trends of reading education in Korea and, suggest future research direction of this field. First, In order to identify the overview of research in terms of productivity, A basic analysis was performed based on 1,465 articles of domestic serials(1935~2011). Second, The analysis of intellectual structure using author profiling as a technique of text mining was performed based on 652 papers of domestic journals(2000~2011). Third, Depending on the results of these analysis, this study suggested the directions of future research of the field.

  • This study aims to explore a new technique making complementary linkage between controlled vocabularies and uncontrolled vocabularies for analyzing a research domain. Co-word analysis can be largely divided into two based on the types of vocabulary used: controlled and uncontrolled. In the case of using controlled vocabulary, data sparseness and indexer effect are inherent drawbacks. On the other case, word selection by the author's perspective and word ambiguity. To complement each other, we suggest a descriptor profiling that represents descriptors(controlled vocabulary) as the co-occurrence with words from the text(uncontrolled vocabulary). Applying the profiling to the domain of information science implies that this method can complement each other by reducing the inherent shortcoming of the controlled and uncontrolled vocabulary.

  • This study analyzes the intellectual structure in domestic research of the Housing field, by utilizing text mining technique. Unlike the existing research that mainly uses text clustering in statistical analyses to identify subject specialties, core authors, and relationships between research areas, this study applied author profiling and factor analysis. To supplement the analysis of intellectual structure generated by text mining, and to perform evaluation on intellectual structure itself, two professionals in the housing field were interviewed. The intellectual structure, generated through text mining, was evaluated and showed its division of valid research areas that is slightly different from the traditional intellectual structure in the housing field.

  • The purpose of this study is to see the intellectual structure in the field of veterinary sciences in Korea, using author profiling analysis(APA), a bibliometric approach. Three journals are selected on the basis of citation data, exchanging most citations with Korean Journal of Veterinary. And then, 50 authors who published most articles at selected journals during the given period of time were chosen. The analysis of similarity and dissimilarity among authors by comparing co-word appearance patterns from article title, abstracts, and keywords was made. Authors can be grouped 11 minor clusters under 4 major clusters, depending on their interests in the area of veterinary sciences in Korea. The subjects for each cluster at the veterinary sciences are decided by the matching the keyword, representing author's research interest. As a result, it is possible to figure out the current research trends and the researcher network in the field of veterinary sciences.

  • Since the 1990s, informetrics has grown in popularity among information scientists. Today it is a general discipline that comprises all kinds of metrics, including bibliometrics and scientometrics. To illustrate the dynamic progress of this field, this study aims to identify the structure and infrastructure of the informetrics literature using statistical and profiling methods. Informetrics literature was obtained from the Web of Knowledge for the years 2001-2010. The selected articles contain least one of these keywords: informetrics', bibliometrics', scientometrics', webometrics', and citation analysis.' Noteworthy publication patterns of major countries were identified by a statistical method. Intellectual structure analysis shows major research areas, authors, and journals.

  • This study aimed at analyzing the 6 foreign reformed theological journals and index terms, authors to find out the intellectual structures and the characteristics of the journals, the authors. First, analyzing the index terms, we analyzed the main keywords and the increasing trend by period, second, analyzing the journals, we analyzed the main subject of them and the subjects of distinguishing features by the journals, third we analyzed the authors' profiling. The index terms were clustered four big clusters and 23 small clusters. The journals were clustered the two clusters, and we also analyzed the index terms to distinguish a journal from other journals. The authors were clustered the six clusters, the index terms the clusters of the authors shared were similar to the results of the two analyses. The biblical teachings of The Old Testament and the New Testament and reformed theology were core subject terms and it was consistent in the results of these three analyses. This study mainly aimed at analyzing the 6 foreign reformed theological journals, and we found out that the parts of the results of this study were similar to the results of analyzing the domestic reformed theological journals. Therefore, there should be more researches needed to figure out what the results of this study mean to Korean reformed theology.

  • Since the 1990s, the growth of the public library program field progressed rapidly at home and aborad as the proportion of programs increased as a major job for public libraries in response to social changes and user demands. However, it is difficult to find a study to grasp the overall research trend in the field of public library programs in Korea. Accordingly, intellectual structure analysis was performed based on keyword profiling to examine research trends in the domestic public library program field. In particular, keyword analysis, network analysis and cluster analysis, and period/year analysis were performed step by step based on the author keywords (uncontrolled keywords) of degree papers and academic journals retrieved from the RISS database. In addition, based on the results of this intellectual structure analysis, the research trends of public library programs were comprehensively reviewed and future research tasks were presented.
