With the advent of the 4th industrial revolution, technologies for improving human ability are being developed. In particular, human augmentation is developing in the form of not only detecting the ability to understand internal and external conditions of humans, but also detects one's deficiencies and enhances their abilities. With the explosive growth and proliferation of extended reality, human augmentation technology has the potential to be utilized in various aspects of our lives. To analyze recent human augmentation technology in forms of digital enhancements, this paper examines the history and concept of human augmentation, which began with the trans-humanism. Furthermore, we identify core characteristics of human augmentation as user state quantification, cognitive ability measurement and analysis. Then we present how these characteristics should be used in extended reality based human digital augmentation for enhancing cognitive abilities. Lastly, we discuss future directions on feasible applications and development direction of digital human augmentation.
The data augmentation technique is effectively used to solve the problem of overfitting the model by allowing the training dataset to be viewed from various perspectives. In addition to image augmentation techniques such as rotation, cropping, horizontal flip, and vertical flip, occlusion-based data augmentation methods such as Cutmix and Cutout have been proposed. For models based on speech data, it is possible to use an occlusion-based data-based augmentation technique after converting a 1D speech signal into a 2D spectrogram. In particular, SpecAugment is an occlusion-based augmentation technique for speech spectrograms. In this study, we intend to compare and study data augmentation techniques that can be used in the problem of false-voice detection. Using data from the ASVspoof2017 and ASVspoof2019 competitions held to detect fake audio, a dataset applied with Cutout, Cutmix, and SpecAugment, an occlusion-based data augmentation method, was trained through an LCNN model. All three augmentation techniques, Cutout, Cutmix, and SpecAugment, generally improved the performance of the model. In ASVspoof2017, Cutmix, in ASVspoof2019 LA, Mixup, and in ASVspoof2019 PA, SpecAugment showed the best performance. In addition, increasing the number of masks for SpecAugment helps to improve performance. In conclusion, it is understood that the appropriate augmentation technique differs depending on the situation and data.
Horizontal and vertical ridge augmentation was performed using autogenous tooth bone graft block and powder in 44-year old male patient. Excellent bony healing was obtained 2~4 months after ridge augmentation. Implant treatment was performed successfully.
Alveolar bone resorption are unpredictable and always occur after tooth extraction. Such bone resorption causes insufficient alveolar ridge which make implant placement difficult. There are many techniques to increase the alveolar ridge. Representative procedures include ridge split, guided bone regeneration, bone graft using autogenous block bone, and alveolar distraction. In each procedure, there are indications and complications. Depending on the shape and the width of bone defects, we can choose procedures for horizontal bone augmentation and vertical bone augmentation.
The serotonin reuptake inhibitors(SRIs) and the serotonin selective reuptake inhibitors(SSRIs) are considered the first choice agents for pharmacologic treatment of obsessive-compulsive disordr(OCD). However, many patients with OCD experience little or no improvement in their symptoms when treated with SRIs or SSRIs. Patients who have experienced a partial or no response to an SRI/SSRI at 10 to 12 weeks are often considered for augmentation strategies. Nearly every class of psychotropic medications has been tried in an open fashion, though augmentation strategies have been somewhat disappointing.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to elucidate the efficacy and safety of carbonate apatite (CO3Ap) granules in 2-stage sinus floor augmentation through the radiographic and histomorphometric assessment of bone biopsy specimens. Methods: Two-stage sinus floor augmentation was performed on 13 patients with a total of 17 implants. Radiographic assessment using panoramic radiographs was performed immediately after augmentation and was also performed 2 additional times, at 7±2 months and 18±2 months post-augmentation, respectively. Bone biopsy specimens taken from planned implant placement sites underwent micro-computed tomography, after which histological sections were prepared. Results: Postoperative healing of the sinus floor augmentation was uneventful in all cases. The mean preoperative residual bone height was 3.5±1.3 mm, and this was increased to 13.3±1.7 mm by augmentation with the CO3Ap granules. The mean height of the augmented site had decreased to 10.7±1.9 mm by 7±2 months after augmentation; however, implants with lengths in the range of 6.5 to 11.5 mm could still be placed. The mean height of the augmented site had decreased to 9.6±1.4 mm by 18±2 months post-augmentation. No implant failure or complications were observed. Few inflammatory cells or foreign body giant cells were observed in the bone biopsy specimens. Although there were individual differences in the amount of new bone detected, new bone was observed to be in direct contact with the CO3Ap granules in all cases, without an intermediate layer of fibrous tissue. The amounts of bone and residual CO3Ap were 33.8%±15.1% and 15.3%±11.9%, respectively. Conclusions: In this first demonstration, low-crystalline CO3Ap granules showed excellent biocompatibility, and bone biopsy showed them to be replaced with bone in humans. CO3Ap granules are a useful and safe bone substitute for two-stage sinus floor augmentation.

Objective : Pedicle screw fixation for spine arthrodesis is a useful procedure for the treatment of spinal disorders. However, instrument failure often occurs, and pedicle screw loosening is the initial step of a range of complications. The authors recently used a modified transpedicular polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) screw augmentation technique to overcome pedicle screw loosening. Here, they report on the laboratory testing of pedicle screws inserted using this modified technique. Methods : To evaluate pullout strengths three cadaveric spinal columns were used. Three pedicle screw insertion methods were utilized to compare pullout strength; the three methods used were; control (C), traditional transpedicular PMMA augmentation technique (T), and the modified transpedicular augmentation technique (M). After control screws had been pulled out, loosening with instrument was made. Screw augmentations were executed and screw pullout strength was rechecked. Results : Pedicle screws augmented using the modified technique for pedicle screw loosening had higher pullout strengths than the control ($1106.2{\pm}458.0N$ vs. $741.2{\pm}269.5N$; p=0.001). Traditional transpedicular augmentation achieved a mean pullout strength similar to that of the control group ($657.5{\pm}172.3N$ vs. $724.5{\pm}234.4N$; p=0.537). The modified technique had higher strength than the traditional PMMA augmentation technique ($1070.8{\pm}358.6N$ vs. $652.2{\pm}185.5N$; p=0.023). Conclusion : The modified PMMA transpedicular screw augmentation technique is a straightforward, effective surgical procedure for treating pedicle screw loosening, and exhibits greater pullout strength than traditional PMMA transpedicular augmentation. However, long-term clinical evaluation is required.
We propose a semi-supervised learning method based on Variational AutoEncoder (VAE) and Unsupervised Data Augmentation (UDA) to improve the performance of an end-to-end speech recognizer. In the proposed method, first, the VAE-based augmentation model and the baseline end-to-end speech recognizer are trained using the original speech data. Then, the baseline end-to-end speech recognizer is trained again using data augmented from the learned augmentation model. Finally, the learned augmentation model and end-to-end speech recognizer are re-learned using the UDA-based semi-supervised learning method. As a result of the computer simulation, the augmentation model is shown to improve the Word Error Rate (WER) of the baseline end-to-end speech recognizer, and further improve its performance by combining it with the UDA-based learning method.
This study investigated the effect of pressure variations on augmentation of heat transfer when the ultrasonic waves were applied. The augmentation ratio of heat transfer was experimentally investigated and was compared with the profiles of pressure distributions calculated applying a coupled finite element-boundary element method (coupled FE-BEM). As the ultrasonic intensities increase from 70W to 340W, the velocity of the liquid paraffin is found to increase as well as kinetic energy, This physical behavior known as quasi-Eckart streaming results from acoustic pressure variations in the liquid. Especially, the higher acoustic pressure distribution near two ultrasonic transducers develops more intensive flow (quasi-Eckart streaming), destroying the flow instability. Also, the profile of acoustic pressure variation is consistent with that of augmentation of heat transfer. This mechanism is believed to increase the ratio of hear transfer coefficient.
