  • Importance of technology evaluation cannot be overemphasized to support the effective investment policy. Most of the technology evaluation relies on either quantitative analysis for the value or qualitative comparison due to some attribute. When qualitative comparison is made, typically not only individual attribute. but also overall score is evaluated by the committee of experts. In this paper, we consider the qualitative evaluation procedure used in a venture incubating center and validate if the relationship between the average score of individual attribute and the overall score is significant. Additionally, we identify if the initially evaluated scores are good indicators for the realized future value of technology. Structural equation modeling approach is used and we expect that our approach can make important contributions on improving the currently used technology evaluation method.

  • A multi-attribute robust design methodology is presented. This method can be applied where there are various technical constraints in design variables, multiple potentially conflicting design attributes, and uncontrollable noise variables. Two forms of technical constraints, soft and hard constraints, are considered in robust design settings. Specifically, this work presents procedures for integrating two types of design constraints seamlessly on the multiple design attributes, which is achieved through a development of multi-attribute utility formulation. The effectiveness of the overall procedures is tested with the aid of an I-Beam design problem, and results of sensitivity analysis are discussed.

  • When humans make decisions, they differentiate classifications of individual attribute variables that affect the decisions according to the importance and pattern of each attribute variables. The present study examines the practicality of the proposed Code Arrangement-Based Reasoning(CABR), which resembles the human's way of reasoning. To this end, we developed a CABR technique that classifies each attribute variable affecting significant impacts on the target variable into a cluster and assigns a code to the cluster. For verifying the proposed technique, both case-based reasoning and CABR were used for the customer continuance judgment problem of an automobile insurance company. Results indicated that the performance of CABR is close to the one of the case-based reasoning. The CABR also shows the possibility of using bio-informatics techniques for organizational data analysis in the future.

  • This paper deals with the problem of determining a minimum cost sampling inspection plan for a single destructive testing by attribute. The cost for inspection lot is constructed by following three cost factors: (1) cost of inspection, (2) cost of accepted defective, (3) cost of rejected lot Using Hald's Bayesian approach in a single non-destructive testing, procedure's for finding the minimum cost single destructive sampling inspection plan by attribute are given. Assuming the uniform distribution as a prior-distribution and using numerical analysis by computer, a minimum cost single destructive sampling inspection plan by attribute for several lot sizes, unit cost, destructive testing cost, and salvage cost is given.

  • In a situation that rank order information on attribute weights is captured, two solution approaches are presented. An exact solution approach via interaction with a decision-maker pursues progressive reduction of a set of non-dominated alternatives by narrowing down the feasible attribute weights set. In approximate solution approach, on the other hand, three categories of approximate methods such as surrogate weights method, the dominance value-based decision rules, and three classical decision rules are presented and their efficacies in terms of choice accuracy are evaluated via simulation analysis. The simulation results indicate that a method, which combines an exact solution approach through interactions with the decision-maker and the dominance value-based approach is recommendable in a case that a decision is not made at a single step under imprecisely assessed weights information.

  • Measurement of attributes is often highly subjective and imprecise, yet most MADM methods lack provisions for handling imprecise data. Frequently, decision makers must establish a ranking within a finite set of alternatives with respect to multiple attributes which have varying degrees of importance. The problem is more complex if the evaluations of alternatives according to each attribute are not expressed in precise numbers, but rather in fuzzy numbers. Analysis must allow for lack of precision and partial truth. The advantages of a fuzzy approach for MADM are that a decision maker can obtain efficient solutions all at once without trial and error, and that this approach provides better support for judging the interactive improvement of solutions in comparison with o decision making method. The algorithm used in this study is based on the concepts of vague set theory. Linguistic variables and vague values are used to facilitate a decision maker's subjective assessment about attribute weightings and the appropriateness of alternative versus selection attributes in order to obtain final scores which are called vague appropriateness indices. A numerical example is presented to show the practical applicability of this approach.

  • As the result of the analysis of the underground utility map made before, we could have divided the kind of errors into the two types, position error of geometric data and attribute error and knew the fact that mainly position error is derived from the process of detecting and surveying the underground utility, and attribute is inputting data. In this study we showed the way improving accuracy in detecting and surveying underground utility by field test, and the way to reduce attribute error by process refinement.

  • Best generation mix belongs to a multi attribute decision making, because we should consider many uncertain factors and choose the best one of the alternatives. Sugeno's fuzzy integral has been used as the solution of multi attribute decision making, but the exact value of the coefficient $\lambda$ hat not known yet which is needed to calculate fuzzy measure. This paper proposes the new method to calculate fuzzy measure without fixing the value of $\lambda$. The proposed method considers $\lambda$ as a probability distribution function and calculated expectation of fuzzy measure. The method is applied to the test system and the validity of the method is verified.
