  • Purpose - This study focused on the attitude differences towards harmony-focused Ad and uniqueness-focused Ad, also those towards brand advertised in each of the two type Ads between self-construals. Research design, data, and methodology - Main survey was conducted online with the people in China, and collected 107 data through harmony Ad questionnaire and 109 data through uniqueness Ad questionnaire. Anova and t-test were used to verify hypotheses. Results - First, More positive attitude towards harmony-focused Ad and the brand in it there was at interdependent Chinese consumers than at independent Chinese consumers. Second, the independent Chinese consumers and the interdependent Chinese consumers did not form significant attitude difference towards uniqueness-focused Ad. However the independent Chinese consumers showed more positive attitude towards the brand in the uniqueness-focused Ad than the interdependent Chinese consumers. Conclusions - By highlighting the attributes of Chinese consumers' self-construal, to appeal to interdependent Chinese consumers, marketers should develop harmony-focused advertisement, and they should appeal to independent Chinese consumers by using uniqueness-focused advertisement. However the harmony might be pursued as the main content in the overall environment by Chinese people. Therefore it is necessary for the marketers to consider the harmony even when appealing them by emphasizing the uniqueness.

  • The objective of this study was to analyze the influence of physical education classes based on Flipped Learning on self-directed learning abilities and learning attitude towards these classes, for middle school students. The study selected 90 students as an experimental group (3 classes) and 97 students as a control group (3 classes), among 240 students of the first-year students attending a middle school located at Jeonju City of South Korea, applying convenience sampling, one of the non-probability sampling methods. For the experimental group, 36 sessions of physical education classes were held for 14 weeks, while the control group received teacher-centered classes. Comparing the results with the control group, the experimental group showed significant differences in terms of all sub factors of self-directed learning abilities, namely; desire for learning, learning objective establishment, basic self-management abilities, selection of learning strategy and self-reflection. Moreover, the experimental group manifested significant differences in terms of all sub factors of attitude towards the physical education subjects, namely; positive emotions, negative emotions, health & physical strength, interpersonal relations, physical activities & movements, and active participation & positive performance. From the findings, it can be considered that physical education classes based on Flipped Learning contributed to improving self-directed learning abilities and attitude towards physical education classes. This result can serve as a significant basic material for designing and performing classes in raising the understanding of Flipped Learning and effectively applying Flipped Learning in physical education classes.

The Effect of Brand Extension of Private Label on Consumer Attitude - a focus on the moderating effect of the perceived fit difference between parent brands and an extended brand - (PL의 브랜드확장이 소비자태도에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 : 모브랜드 적합도 인식 차이의 조절효과를 중심으로)

  • Introduction: Sales of private labels(PU have been growing m recent years. Globally, PLs have already achieved 20% share, although between 25 and 50% share in most of the European markets(AC. Nielson, 2005). These products are aimed to have comparable quality and prices as national brand(NB) products and have been continuously eroding manufacturer's national brand market share. Stores have also started introducing premium PLs that are of higher-quality and more reasonably priced compared to NBs. Worldwide, many retailers already have a multiple-tier private label architecture. Consumers as a consequence are now able to have a more diverse brand choice in store than ever before. Since premium PLs are priced higher than regular PLs and even, in some cases, above NBs, stores can expect to generate higher profits. Brand extensions and private label have been extensively studied in the marketing field. However, less attention has been paid to the private label extension. Therefore, this research focuses on private label extension using the Multi-Attribute Attitude Model(Fishbein and Ajzen, 1975). Especially there are few studies that consider the hierarchical effect of the PL's two parent brands: store brand and the original PL. We assume that the attitude toward each of the two parent brands affects the attitude towards the extended PL. The influence from each parent brand toward extended PL will vary according to the perceived fit between each parent brand and the extended PL. This research focuses on how these two parent brands act as reference points to one another in the consumers' choice consideration. Specifically we seek to understand how store image and attitude towards original PL affect consumer perceptions of extended premium PL. How consumers perceive extended premium PLs could provide strategic suggestions for retailer managers with specific suggestions on whether it is more effective: to position extended premium PL similarly or dissimilarly to original PL especially on the quality dimension and congruency with store image. There is an extensive body of research on branding and brand extensions (e.g. Aaker and Keller, 1990) and more recently on PLs(e.g. Kumar and Steenkamp, 2007). However there are no studies to date that look at the upgrading and influence of original PLs and attitude towards store on the premium PL extension. This research wishes to make a contribution to this gap using the perceived fit difference between parent brands and extended premium PL as the context. In order to meet the above objectives, we investigate which factors heighten consumers' positive attitude toward premium PL extension. Research Model and Hypotheses: When considering the attitude towards the premium PL extension, we expect four factors to have an influence: attitude towards store; attitude towards original PL; perceived congruity between the store image and the premium PL; perceived similarity between the original PL and the premium PL. We expect that all these factors have an influence on consumer attitude towards premium PL extension. Figure 1 gives the research model and hypotheses. Method: Data were collected by an intercept survey conducted on consumers at discount stores. 403 survey responses were attained (total 59.8% female, across all age ranges). Respondents were asked to respond to a series of Questions measured on 7 point likert-type scales. The survey consisted of Questions that measured: the trust towards store and the original PL; the satisfaction towards store and the original PL; the attitudes towards store, the original PL, and the extended premium PL; the perceived similarity of the original PL and the extended premium PL; the perceived congruity between the store image and the extended premium PL. Product images with specific explanations of the features of premium PL, regular PL and NB we reused as the stimuli for the Question response. We developed scales to measure the research constructs. Cronbach's alphaw as measured each construct with the reliability for all constructs exceeding the .70 standard(Nunnally, 1978). Results: To test the hypotheses, path analysis was conducted using LISREL 8.30. The path analysis for verification of the model produced satisfactory results. The validity index shows acceptable results(${\chi}^2=427.00$(P=0.00), GFI= .90, AGFI= .87, NFI= .91, RMSEA= .062, RMR= .047). With the increasing retailer use of premium PLBs, the intention of this research was to examine how consumers use original PL and store image as reference points as to the attitude towards premium PL extension. Results(see table 1 & 2) show that the attitude of each parent brand (attitudes toward store and original pL) influences the attitude towards extended PL and their perceived fit moderates these influences. Attitude toward the extended PL was influenced by the relative level of perceived fit. Discussion of results and future direction: These results suggest that the future strategy for the PL extension needs to consider that positive parent brand attitude is more strongly associated with the attitude toward PL extensions. Specifically, to improve attitude towards PL extension, building and maintaining positive attitude towards original PL is necessary. Positioning premium PL congruently to store image is also important for positive attitude. In order to improve this research, the following alternatives should also be considered. To improve the research model's predictive power, more diverse products should be included in study. Other attributes of product should also be included such as design, brand name since we only considered trust and satisfaction as factors to build consumer attitudes.

  • This research attempts to analyze communication effects of print ad having pictorial typography. 150 Questionnaires were distributed to respondents staying Daejeun City and 148 copies were retreated for five days from April 22nd to 26th, 2012. Frequency analysis, factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha for reliability analysis were utilized for data analysis with SPSS 12.0. For testing hypothesis, regression analysis was used. As result of testing hypothesis, 'informative, beneficial, creative, reliable' were partially significant to attitude towards print ad having pictorial typography. That means 'creative' and 'reliable' were insignificant, while 'informative' and 'beneficial' are significant. Variable of the most influencing on attitude towards advertising is 'informative.' 'Informative, beneficial, creative, and reliable' were partially significant to brand attitude, too. That means 'beneficial' and 'creative' were insignificant, while 'informative' and 'reliable' were significant. Variable of the most influencing on brand attitude was 'reliable.' Therefore, to enhance communication effect of print ad having pictorial typography, 'informative' and 'reliable' are most significant variables.

  • Purpose - This study aims to examine the determinants of income management of the public servant. Three independent variables are examined such as attitude towards money, financial capability and debt management while the dependent variable is financial wellbeing of public servants. Research design, data, and methodology - Quantitative research is applied in this study, and data are collected by using cross sectional approach. Survey questionnaires are obtained from 270 respondents, which represents 79% response rate. The multiple regressions are used to examine the influence of attitude towards money, financial capability and debt management towards financial wellbeing. Results - The result of the multiple regression indicated positive influences of attitude towards money and financial capability on financial wellbeing. However, debt management found no significant influence on financial wellbeing. Conclusions - Research findings show that people have different attitudes towards money and different trends of expenditure. It is also crucial to be highlighted that employees' attitude and financial capability have a greater influence on overall satisfaction with employees' financial wellbeing. Some would want to show off their luxury items they bought to close friends or relatives and some are very prudent in making expenditures even for necessity items.

  • The purpose of this study is to figure out the effects of advertisements (functional value, sentimental value, self-expressing value) depending on the gender in regard of the attitude towards the advertisement, brand attitude, purchase intention, and the characteristic and quality of the product. From the study on the university students, there was a meaningful interaction among the independent variables in regard of attitude towards advertisement, brand attitude, purchase intention, and characteristic of the product in the four dependent measurements used for the index of advertisement effects. In terms of the attitude towards advertisements, brand attitude, purchase intention, and the characteristic of the product according to the gender and value suggestion, functional convenience was more influential for men compared to the sentimental convenience and self-expressing value. On the other hand, self-expressing value was more influential for women in terms of the advertisement effect and the characteristic of the product. The main effects depending on the gender were common in four dependent values such as attitude towards advertisement, brand attitude, purchase intention and characteristic of the product, and the average of all values was higher from women. Thereby, it can be said that women show more positive advertisement effects in terms of attitude and purchase than men. The main effects on the value suggestion were meaningfully indicated in advertisement attitude, brand attitude, and characteristic of the product except the purchase intention. Also, the functional and self-expressing value made better advertisement effect, while the sentimental value showed a comparatively lower advertisement effect. In terms of the sentimental value, a comparatively low advertisement effect was shown statistically compared to the functional and self-expressing value in all dependent values, but there was no big difference depending on the gender. That is, in terms of the sentimental value, a separate value suggesting advertisement can be more influential when it is combined with the functional value for men, and for women if it is combined with self-expressing value.

  • As foreign tourists visiting Korea increase and Koreans traveling overseas become more frequent, a study on the level of domestic consumers' acceptance of different cultures and the perception towards products from different cultures is needed. In this study, a perceptual curiosity, which is an individual personality, was divided into Diverse perceptual curiosity and Specific perceptual curiosity, and effects of perceptual curiosity on an attitude towards different cultures and an intention to recommend products from different cultures were examined. To prove validity of measurement items and reliability of data, SPSS and LISREL were used and to prove a hypothesis, a structural equation model was used. The study results showed that the Diverse perceptual curiosity, which is Hypothesis 1, had a positive effect on the attitude towards different cultures while the Specific perceptual curiosity, which is Hypothesis 2, did not have a significant effect on the attitude towards different cultures. In addition, it was shown that the attitude towards different cultures, which is Hypothesis 3, had a significant positive effect on the intention to recommend the products from different cultures.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships among attitude towards mathematics, mathematics activity, and mathematics achievement, and compare the relationship between the United States and Korea using the Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) database. Since Korea is one of the countries where performance was among the highest and the United States is one of countries where performance was among the middle in mathematics, and many previous researchers reported that attitude towards mathematics and class activities are factors that affect mathematics achievement. the comparison study between two countries would be very important to analyze how factors are affected by country difference. The major research questions are as follows: (1) What constitutes attitude towards mathematics and mathematics activities in the TIMSS database\ulcorner (2) How do these two variables, attitude towards mathematics and mathematics activities, affect mathematics achievement differently between the United States and Korea\ulcorner The result indicates that the relationship between the attitude towards mathematics and the mathematics achievement is stronger for Korea than for the United States; however no country difference is found between the mathematics activities and mathematics achievement. According to this study high mathematics achievement is expected when students' attitude towards mathematics is positively high.
