There have been increases in the elderly population worldwide, and this has been accompanied by rapid growth in the health-care market, as there is an ongoing need to monitor the health of individuals. Wireless body area networks (WBANs) consist of wireless sensors attached on or inside the human body to monitor vital health-related problems, e.g., electrocardiograms (ECGs), electroencephalograms (EEGs), and electronystagmograms (ENGs). With WBANs, patients' vital signs are recorded by each sensor and sent to a coordinator. However, because of obstructions by the human body, sensors cannot always send the data to the coordinator, requiring them to transmit at higher power. Therefore, we need to consider the lifetime of the sensors given their required transmit power. In the IEEE 802.15.6 standard, the transmission topology functions as a one-hop star plus one topology. In order to obtain a high throughput, we reduce the transmit power of the sensors and maintain equity for all sensors. We propose the multiple-hop transmission for WBANs based on the IEEE 802.15.6 carrier-sense multiple-access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) protocol. We calculate the throughput and variance of the transmit power by performing simulations, and we discuss the results obtained using the proposed theorems.

The two major problems related to the blood flow in replaced prosthetic heart valve are thrombus formation and hemolysis. Reliability of prosthetic valve is very important because its failure means the death of patient. There are many factors affecting the valvular failures and their representatives are mechanical failure and thrombosis, so early noninvasive detection is essentially required. The purpose of this study is to detect the various thromboses formation by using acoustic signal acquisition and its spectral analysis on the frequency domain. We made the thrombosis models using Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and they are thrombosis model on the disc, around the sewing ring and fibrous tissue growth across the orifice of valve. Using microphone and amplifier, we measured the acoustic signal from the prosthetic valve, which is attached to the pulsatile mock circulation system. A/D converter sampled the acoustic signal and the spectral analysis is the main algorithm for obtaining spectrum. Then the spectrum of normal and 5 different kinds of abnormal valve were obtained. Each spectrum waveform shows a primary and secondary peak. The secondary peak changes according to the thrombus model. To quantitatively distinguish the frequency peak of the normal valve from that of the thrombosed valves, analysis using a neural network was employed. Acoustic measurement has been used as a noninvasive diagnostic tool and is thought to be a good method for detecting possible mechanical failure or thrombus.
The combined SHARON (Single reactor system for High ammonium Removal Over Nitrite)-ANAMMOX (Anaerobic ammonium oxidation) reactor were operated in mesophilic condition ($35^{\circ}C$). In this study, microbial granulation and characteristics of SHARON and ANAMMOX sludges were investigated using settling test, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH). In SHARON reactor, Aerobic granulation with diameter of 1.5~2.5 mm was accomplished but aerobic granulation was weaker than anaerobic granular sludge. Initial seed sludge of ANAMMOX reactor was used as attached media for biofilm growth. ANAMMOX sludge was more compact and rounder rather than seed sludge. Though ANAMMOX sludge has high activity, it has lower settling ability than the seed granule. The color of ANAMMOX sludge was changed from dark to redish brown granular with diameter of 1~2 mm. In FISH of ANAMMOX sludge, high fraction of Candidatus B. stuttgartiensis which paid great role of nitrogen conversion was detected. Also, FISH results reveals that ANAMMOX bacteria inhabit at inner parts near surface, having advantages in utilization of substrates and protection from oxygen inhibition.
The cloging phenomenon in the fixed film reactor Is shown when biomass growth Is excessive for long operating time. In addition, effluent water Quality gets worse because of detachment of biomass. In this study, we conducted air-backwashing to sustain biomass In reactor to complement these defects. The results of experimental are showed In the following conclusion. The detachment rate was 19.5 - 38.0% when the organic loading rate was 0.40 - 1.32 kg COD/$m^3$/day, the k - backwashing Intensity was 2 L/min(6.7 $m^3$/$m^2$/hrl and the backwashing time was 15 - 19 seconds. And the detachment rate was 32.2 - 58.6 % when the organic loading rate was 1.37 - 2.27 kg COD/$m^2$/day, the backwashing time was 1 - 12 minutes. As orgnic loading rate and backwashing time ale Increased, detachment of fixed biomass Is Increased. The detachment equation with detachment rate(DR, %), backwashing time(BWT, min), fixed biomass concentration(FB. mg/L), and organic leading rate(OLR, kg COD/ms/day) through multiple linear regession was given by the following equation: DR : 17.964 $BWT^{0.1407} FB^{0.0597} OLR^{0.1946}$
ZnO:Cu thin films are deposited by using an RF magnetron co-sputtering system with Cu chips attached on ZnO target. Structural and electrical properties are analyzed as a function of deposition conditions, such as Cu chip areas, $O_2/(Ar+O_2)$ ratios, and working pressures, The results show that a higher electrical resistivity above $10^{10}$${\Omega}cm$ along with an excellent c-axial growth can be easily achieved by Cu-doping. SAW filters based on the ZnO:Cu films are also fabricated to estimate the electric-mechanical coupling coefficient($K^{2}_{eff}$). Higher $K^{2}_{eff}$ and lower insertion losses are observed for ZnO:Cu films, compared with those for ZnO films.
Aim of this study was to investigate biofilms attached in pipeline of water reuse from the MBR system treating sewage without chlorination in correlation to the outflow water quality. Two general pipe materials: polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polyethylene (PE) were employed in the experiment. The peak growths were found at week 4 in both pipes. The maximum biofilms in PE pipe was $33mgVSS/cm^2$ with the growth rate of $4.75mgVSS/cm^2-d$ which was significant higher than that of PVC pipe. Biofilms examined by PCR-DGGE technique revealed five bacterial species in PE biofilms namely Sinorhizobium medicae WSM419, Sinorhizobium fredii NGR234, Geobacter sp. M18, Parachlamydia acanthamoebae UV-7, and Mycobacterium chubuense NBB4. The VSS concentrations in outflow had directly correlated to the biofilm attachment and detachment. High COD concentrations of outflow appeared during biofilm detaching phase. In summary, water quality of reuse water corresponded to the biofilms attachment and detachment in the pipeline.
Nowadays, traffic congestion is emerging as a major problem due to the rapid population growth and the increase in automobiles. The train is a convenient means of transportation that can efficiently solve these problems. Trains have been developed in line with human aspirations for a long time, but research on safety is still insufficient. This study aims to check safety by conducting static tests and fatigue tests on bogie frames, and to help develop bogie frames in the future. For the static test, a strain gauge was attached to the point where the local stress concentration was expected beforehand, and the result value was derived, compared with existing theories, and expressed as a Goodman diagram. In the fatigue test, a total of 10 million loads were applied over three stages, and no cracks appeared in the non-destructive test conducted after each stage. Both tests were conducted according to the strict test method of the bogie frame presented by the UIC Code. It satisfied both fatigue life and strength evaluation criteria and was judged to be a bogie frame usable for safe train production.

The effect of two-fluid fogging system on the control of Bemisia tabaci in tomato cultivation was evaluated in a greenhouse. The number of Bemisia tabaci was decreased by 87% from the fog treatment for 7 days. During the fog treatment, the mean daily temperature was decreased by $2^{\circ}C$ and the mean daily relative humidity was increased by 3~4% as compared to the non-treatment. The reduction of Bemisia tabaci in the treatment might not be resulted from the differences in temperature and humidity in the greenhouse. The sound coming from the two-fluid fogging system did not affect when it was operated without water inside. Therefore it was concluded that water droplets coming out the nozzle reduced the growth and the movement of whiteflies because the suspension of tiny water droplets were attached on the skin of whiteflies.

Recently, three-dimensional (3D) cell culture systems, which are superior to conventional two-dimensional (2D) vascular systems that mimic the in vivo environment, are being actively studied to reproduce drug responses and cell differentiation in organisms. Conventional two-dimensional cell culture methods (scaffold-based and non-scaffold-based) have a limited cell growth rate because the culture cannot supply the culture medium as consistently as microvessels. To solve this problem, we would like to propose a 3D culture system with an environment similar to living cells by continuously supplying the culture medium to the bottom of the 3D cell support. The 3D culture system is a structure in which microvascular structures are combined under a scaffold (agar, collagen, etc.) where cells can settle and grow. First, we have manufactured molds for the formation of four types of microvessel-mimicking chips: width / height ①100 ㎛ / 100 ㎛, ②100 ㎛ / 50 ㎛, ③ 150 ㎛ / 100 ㎛, and ④ 200 ㎛ / 100 ㎛. By injection molding, four types of microfluidic chips were made with GPPS (general purpose polystyrene), and a 100㎛-thick PDMS (polydimethylsiloxane) film was attached to the top of each microfluidic chip. As a result of observing the flow of the culture medium in the microchannel, it was confirmed that when the aspect ratio (height/width) of the microchannel is 1.5 or more, the fluid flows from the inlet to the outlet without a backflow phenomenon. In addition, the culture efficiency experiments of colorectal cancer cells (SW490) were performed in a 3D culture system in which PDMS films with different pore diameters (1/25/45 ㎛) were combined on a microfluidic chip. As a result, it was found that the cell growth rate increased up to 1.3 times and the cell death rate decreased by 71% as a result of the 3D culture system having a hole membrane with a diameter of 10 ㎛ or more compared to the conventional commercial. Based on the results of this study, it is possible to expand and build various 3D cell culture systems that can maximize cell culture efficiency by cell type by adjusting the shape of the microchannel, the size of the film hole, and the flow rate of the inlet.

Chlorinated ethylenes such as perchloroethylene (PCE) and trichloroethylene (TCE) are widely used as industrial solvents and degreasing agents. Because of improper handling, these highly toxic chlorinated ethylenes have been often detected from contaminated soils and groundwater. Biological PCE dechlorination activities were tested in bacterial cultures inoculated with 10 different environmental samples from sediments, sludges, soils, and groundwater. Of these, the sediment using culture (SE 2) was selected and used for establishing an efficient PCE dechlorinating enrichment culture since it showed the highest activity of dechlorination. The cathode chamber of bioelectrochemical system (BES) was inoculated with the enrichment culture and the system with a cathode polarized at -500 mV (Vs Ag/AgCl) was operated under fed-batch mode. PCE was dechlorinated to ethylene via TCE, cis-dichloroethylene, and vinyl chloride. Microbial community analysis with polymerase chain reaction-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE) showed that the microbial community in the enrichment culture was significantly changed during the bio-electrochemical PCE dechlorination in the BES. The communities of suspended-growth bacteria and attached-growth bacteria on the cathode surface are also quite different from each other, indicating that there were some differences in their mechanisms receiving electrons from electrode for PCE dechlorination. Further detailed research to investigate electron transfer mechanism would make the bioelctrochemical dechlorination technique greatly useful for bioremediation of soil and groundwater contaminated with chlorinated ethylenes.
