Cor triatriatum is a rare entity of congenital heart disease characterized by the presence of a fibrousmuscular diaphragm that subdivides the left atrium into a proximal or "accessory" chamber and a distal or "true" left atrial chamber. In the other hand, cor triatriatum is a variant of abnormal connection between the pulmonary vein and true left atrium which is separated from accessory left atrium receiving pulmonary venous blood flow by fibromuscular diaphragm. We experienced two cases of cor triatriatum. One of them was classical, and the other case was combined with atrial septal defect and all pulmonary veins were drained into the " common pulmonary venous chamber " which connected with right atrium and there was no direct communication between the accessory chamber and true left atrium. The abnormal diaphragms were excised and the atrial septal defect was repaired with pericardial patch in case II. The postoperative courses were not eventful and the patients were discharged with good result, and have been in good condition upto now.n good condition upto now.

A direct communication between the left ventricle and right atrium is a relatively uncommon defect. Familiarity with this anomaly has become increasingly important, however, since the preoperative findings may be identical with those of an atrial septal defect. The left ventricle is directly related to the right atrium over. an area of the membranous ventricular septum which extends superior to the septal attachment of the right atrioventricular valve in the LV-RA communication. The clinical triad of a ventricular septal defect murmur, cardiac enlargement, and an arteriovenous shunt at atrial level is characteristic of the malformation. A 2-year-old boy with left ventriculo-right atrial communication has operated at the Maryknoll Hospital. Under the cardiopulmonary bypass, the atrium was opened, there was a jet-blood stream just above the atria-ventricular portion adjacent to the septal leaflet of the tricuspid valve.

A 45-year old woman with congestive heart failure due to left atrial tumor was operated on. Three tumor masses arising from posterior wall, atrial septum, anterior portion of mitral valve were resected. Pathological diagnosis was malignant fibrous histiocytoma [MFH]. Above one case and sixteen previous reports are reviewed. Eleven cases out of 17 were females. The tumors all originated primarily in the left atrium and 8 had distant metastases. The metastatic sites are lung [4 cases], brain [2 cases], liver, jejunum, cervix and pleura etc. Careful pathologic study is necessary to differentiate the uniformly fatal MFH of the heart from the more common benign atrial myxoma. The treatment modalities are surgical resection, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy & the prognosis of intracardiac MFH is poor. We underwent partial resection of left atrial MFH and obtained symptom relief and patient still alive 7 months post-operatively in state of NYHA class II.

혈전성 뇌경색에 의한 실어증으로 70세 남자 환자가 입원하여 혈전에 대한 원인을 조사하던 중 경식도 초음파검사와 흉부 자기공명영상에서 혈류가 없는 우심방의 낭성종양으로 진단되었다. 종양은 균질성으로 혈전보다는 종양(점액종)으로 의심되었다. 종양은 심방중격의 일부와 함께 정상 체온 체외순환 상태에서 제거되었고 조직학적으로 피가 고여 있는 폐쇄성 심방중격류로 판명되었다. 이에 문헌 고찰과 함께 한 드문 증례를 보고하는 바이다.

Partial anomalous pulmonary venous connection is frequently found in any ASD(atrial septal defect) patients. These patients are usually symptomatic, therefore, easily diagnosed as just simple ASD. We experienced a case of a 37-year-old female patient with ASD in which the left upper pulmonary vein was connected to SVC by the left inominate vein. The patient was diagnosed as simple ASD previously. During cardiac catheterization, we found a meaningful oxygen saturation step up between the SVC and its upper portion. Angiogram confirmed PAPVC. The surgical correction of anastomosis of PAPVC with left atrial appendage and direct closure of ASD were done. The patient was discharged 15 days later.

The aim of the present experiments was to investigate the effect of Yukmijihwangtang water extracts on the plasma renin activity and plasma levels of atrial natriuretic peptide and aldosterone in rats. The results of this study were as follows: 1. Plasma renin activity decreased significantly after the administration of Yukmijihwangtang water extracts 1.5 ml/kg. 2. Plasma levels of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) decreased significantly after the administration of Yukmijihwangtang water extracts. 3. Plasma levels of aldosterone increased significantly after the administration of Yukmijihwangtang water extract.

Atrial natriuretic peptide(ANP)의 유리기전에 대한 특성을 알아보고자, 흰쥐의 적출심장 관류모형을 사용하여 연구한 바 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 심방을 확장시켰을 때 ANP의 유리는 촉진되었다. 그러나 과용량을 부하하면 확장기간보다 회복기간에 ANP의 유리가 현저하게 증가하였다. 2. Epinephrine과 phenylephrine을 주입하면 ANP의 유리 량이 증가했으나, isoproterenol을 주입하면 심박수와 우심방 내압이 현저하게 증가했는데도 ANP의 유리량은 오히려 감소하였다 3. 미주신경을 자극하면 심박수의 현저한 감소에도 불구하고 ANP의 유리량은 증가하였다. 이상과 같은 결과에서 볼 때 결론적으로, 심방의 용량부하에 의해 심방근의 신장수용체가 자극을 받아 ANP의 유리가 촉진되는 것은 분명하고, 심방근이 확장할 때 보다는 확장 후 다시 원래의 길이로 환원될 때 ANP가 유리될 것으로 사료된다. 그리고 ANP의 유리에 대한 adrenergic조절은 o-receptor가 관련되어 있으며 심박수와 심방내압이 ANP의 유리를 변화시키는 데는 반드시 필수적인 인자가 아닌 것으로 여겨진다. 또한 특히 미주신경의 자극으로도 ANP의 유리가 조절될 수 있다는 것이 본 연구를 통해 새로이 발견되었다.

A 6-month-old mature intact female Siamese cat presented with exertional dyspnea. Diagnostic studies revealed pleural effusion, grade 4/6 left basal systolic murmur, deep S-wave in electrocardiograph leads I, II, and III, cardiomegaly with pleural effusion on radiography, pulmonic systolic (~5.8 m/sec) and tricuspid (3.6 m/sec) regurgitant jets, atrial septal defect, and a hypoplastic right outflow tract. Based on these results, the case was diagnosed as pulmonic stenosis with atrial septal defect. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report describing pulmonic stenosis with atrial septal defect in a cat in Korea.

The aim of this experiments was to investigate the effect of Lycii Fructus water extracts on the blood pressure, plasma renin activity and plasma levels of atrial natriuretic peptide in two-kidney one clip Goldblatt hypertensive rats. Systolic blood pressure was decreased significantly after administration of Lycii Fructus water extracts. Plasma levels of atrial natriuretic peptide was increased significantly after adminstration of Lycii Fructus water extracts. Plasma renin activity was not changed after adminstration of Lycii Fructus water extracts. Thease results suggested that the depressor response after adminstration of Lycii Fructus water extracts were related with the changes of the plasma levels of atrial natriuretic peptide.

This paper proposes a new method for the automatic detection of atrial fibrillation (AF), using Markov regime switching GARCH (1, 1) model. The proposed method is based on the observation that variability patterns of heart rate intervals during AF significantly differ from regular patterns. The proposed method captures the different patterns of heart rate intervals between two regimes : normal and AF states. We test the proposed method using Massachusetts Institute of Technology-Beth Israel Hospital (MIT-BIH) atrial fibrillation database, and demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
