Transition metal ions($Ni^{2+}$, $Cr^{3+}$ and $V^{5+}$) doped $TiO_2$ nanostructured powders were synthesized by mechanical alloying(MA) to shift the adsorption threshold into the visible light region. The synthesized powders were characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM and BET for structural analysis, UV-Vis and photoluminescence spectrum for the optical study. Also, photocatalytic abilities were evaluated by decomposition of 4-chlorophenol(4CP) under ultraviolet and visible light irradiations. Optical studies showed that the absorption wavelength of transition metal ions doped $TiO_2$ powders moved to visible light range, which was believed to be induced by the energy level change due to the doping. Among the prepared $TiO_2$ powders, $NiO^{2+}$ doped $TiO_2$ powders, showed excellent photooxidative ability in 4CP decomposition.
Convenient analytical tools for evaluation of the aperiodic and the fluctuating instabilities of the passive residual heat removal system (PRHRS) of an integral reactor are developed and results are discussed from the viewpoint of the system design. First, a static model for the aperiodic instability using the system hydraulic loss relation and the downcomer feedwater heating equations is developed. The calculated hydraulic relation between the pressure drop and the feedwater flow rate shows that several static states can exist with various numbers of water-mode feedwater module pipes. It is shown that the most probable state can exist by basic physical reasoning, that there is no flow rate through the steam-mode feedwater module pipes. Second, a dynamic model for the fluctuating instability due to steam generation retardation in the steam generator and the dynamic interaction of two compressible volumes, that is, the steam volume of the main steam pipe lines and the gas volume of the compensating tank is formulated and the D-decomposition method is applied after linearization of the governing equations. The results show that the PRHRS becomes stabilized with a smaller volume compensating tank, a larger volume steam space and higher hydraulic resistance of the path $a_{ct}$. Increasing the operating steam pressure has a stabilizing effect. The analytical model and the results obtained from this study will be utilized for PRHRS performance improvement.
Vitrification of radioactive liquid waste (RLW) provides a feasible solution for isolating radionuclides from the biosphere for an extended period. In vitrification, base glass and radioactive waste are added simultaneously into the melter. Determination of heat and mass transfer rates is necessary for rational design and sizing of melter. For obtaining an assured product quality, knowledge of reaction kinetics associated with the thermal decomposition of waste constituents is essential. In this study Thermogravimetry (TG) - Differential Thermogravimetry (DTG) of eight kinds of nitrates and two oxides, which are major components of RLW, is investigated in the temperature range of 298-1273 K in the presence of base glasses of five component (5C) and seven component (7C). Studies on thermal behavior of constituents in RLW were carried out at heating rates ranging from 10 to $40\;K\;min^{-1}$ using TG - DTG. Thermal behavior and related kinetic parameters of waste constituents, in the presence of 5C and 7C base glass compositions were also investigated. The activation energy, pre-exponential factor and order of the reaction for the thermal decomposition of 24% waste oxide loaded glasses were estimated using Kissinger method.

For the immobilization of high-radioactive nuclides such as Cs and Sr by high-temperature thermal decomposition, this study was carried out to investigate the phase transformation with calcined temperature by using TGA (thermogravimetric analysis) and XRD (X-ray diffraction) in the Cs-adsorbed CHA (chabazite zeolite of K type)-Cs and CHA-PCFC (potassium cobalt ferrocyanide)-Cs zeolite system, and Sr-adsorbed 4A-Sr and BaA-Sr zeolite system, respectively. In the case of CHA-Cs zeolite system, the structure of CHA-Cs remained at up to $900^{\circ}C$ and recrystallized to pollucite ($CsAlSi_2O_6$) at $1,100^{\circ}C$ after undergoing amorphous phase at $1,000^{\circ}C$. However, the CHA-CFC-Cs zeolite system retained the CHA-PCFC-Cs structure up to $700^{\circ}C$, but its structure collapsed in $900{\sim}1,000^{\circ}C$, and then transformed to amorphous phase, and recrystallized to pollucite at $1,100^{\circ}C$. In the case of 4A-Sr zeolite system, on the other hand, the structure of 4A-Sr maintained up to $700^{\circ}C$ and its phase transformed to amorphous at $800^{\circ}C$, and recrystallized to Sr-feldspar ($SrAl_2Si_2O_8$, hexagonal) at $900^{\circ}C$ and to $SrAl_2Si_2O_8$ (triclinic) at $1,100^{\circ}C$. However, the BaA-Sr zeolite system structure began to break down at below $500^{\circ}C$, and then transformed to amorphous phase in $500{\sim}900^{\circ}C$ and recrystallized to Ba/Sr-feldspar (coexistence of $Ba_{0.9}Sr_{0.1}Al_2Si_2O_8$ and $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}Al_2Si_2O_8$) at $1,100^{\circ}C$. All of the above zeolite systems recrystallized to mineral phase through the dehydration/(decomposition) ${\rightarrow}$ amorphous ${\rightarrow}$ recrystallization with increasing temperature. Although further study of the volatility and leachability of Cs and Sr in the high-temperature thermal decomposition process is required, Cs and Sr adsorbed in each zeolite system are mineralized as pollucite, Sr-feldspar and Ba/Sr-feldspar. Therefore, Cs and Sr seen to be able to completely immobilize in the calcining wasteform/(solidified wasteform).
An accurate and simple analytical technique for low levels of fallout Pu in the environment was developed using an anion exchange resin. To develop the reliable determination of Pu isotopes in soil samples, decomposition of soil matrix, plutonium oxidation state adjustment on the anion exchange column and source preparation of Pu isotopes have been carried out. The optimum method of Pu isotopes with an anion exchange has been validated by application to IAEA-Reference soils.
Experiments were carried out to investigate for the interaction between FAD solution and synthetic resin containers made of polyvinylchloride(PVC), polyethylene(PE), and polycarbonate(PC), and for the effect of glycyrrhizine or malic acid on stabilization of FAD in aqueous solution by accelerated stability analysis. Analysis of FAD was determined by means of spectrometer and by separating by paper chromatography and metal ions were detected by atomic absorption spectrophotometer, which were extracted from containers by means of Food and Additive Regulation Standard. The thermal decomposition of FAD in aqueous solution was pseudo first order reaction and it was inhibited by adding glycyrrhizine or malic into the solution. PVC, PE and PC containers accelerated the decomposition of FAD in solution. It is assumed that bivalent heavy metals in resin containers may catalize the hydrolysis of FAD. The metals detected from the containers were Ca, Zn, Cu, Fe, Pb and Cd. And the total amounts of detected metals from PVC were 6.2mcg/cm$^{2}$, PE, 5.5mcg/cm$^{2}$, and PC, 2.7mcg/cm$^{2}$ which were proportional to the rate constant of FAD decomposition in aqueous solution.
Silver(I) [bis(alkylthio)methylene]malonates were synthesized from the reaction of silver nitrate and potassium [bis(alkylthio)methylene]malonates. The structures of the Ag complexes were characterized with nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) and elemental analysis. Ag nanoparticles (NPs) were obtained from the decomposition of the Ag complexes in 1,2-dichlorobenzene at $110^{\circ}C$ without an additional surfactant. The average sizes of the Ag NPs are in the range of 5.1-6.3 nm and could be controlled by varying the length of the alkyl chain. The optical properties, crystalline structure and surface composition of Ag NPs were characterized with ultraviolet-visible (UV-visible) spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA).

Site or multi-unit (MU) risk assessment has been a major issue in the field of nuclear safety study since the Fukushima accident in 2011. There have been few methods or experiences for MU risk assessment because the Fukushima accident was the first real MU accident and before the accident, there was little expectation of the possibility that an MU accident will occur. In addition to the lack of experience of MU risk assessment, since an MU nuclear power plant site is usually very complex to analyze as a whole, it was considered that a systematic method such as probabilistic safety assessment (PSA) is difficult to apply to MU risk assessment. This paper proposes a new MU risk assessment methodology by using the conventional PSA methodology which is widely used in nuclear power plant risk assessment. The logical failure structure of a site with multiple units is suggested from the definition of site risk, and a decomposition method is applied to identify specific MU failure scenarios.

The head-end processes of spent TRISO fuel have been reviewed to understand the current status and the limitations of the reported processes. The main concerns in the TRISO treatment are to effectively breach and separate the carbon and SiC layers composing the TRISO particles. The crush-bum scheme which was considered in the early stages of the development has been replaced by the crush-leach or $CO_2$ burning and the succeeding CO decomposition process because of a sequestration problem of $CO_2$ containing $^{14}C$. However there are still many obstacles to overcome in the reported processes. Hence, innovative thermomechanical and pyrochemical concepts to breach the coating layers of the TRISO particle with a minimized amount of second waste are proposed in this paper and their principles are described in detail.

Various kinds of RI wastes are discharged from licensed organizations of radioisotopes les such as hospitals and clinic organizations, educational organizations, research institutions, and public organizations. Radioiodines such as $^{125}I\;and\;^{131}I$ are radioisotopes mainly used in nuclear medicine and industry. A method for the determination of radioiodines in RI wastes has been applied to measure low level activity using acid decomposition method and HPGe gamma ray spectrometer. Prior to analysis of real samples, $^{131}I$ reference solution and 10 g of yellow tissue paper was added to flask in mantle and was heated in 100 mL of 0.4 N $K_2Cr_2O_7$ and 100 mL of 9 M $H_2SO_4$, and then distilled after adding 10 mL of 30% $H_2PO_3$ and 1 mL of 30% $H_2O_2$. The condensed iodine by circulator was extracted into $CCl_4$, then back-extracted into the aqueous phase with 10 mL of 5% $K_2SO_2$ solution. Finally, $^{131}I$ was measured at 364.48 keV using HPGe gamma ray spectrometer after precipitation and filtration. Chemical yield of three steps such as acid decomposition process, chemical separation process, and precipitation and filtration process was more han 94% respectively, MDA(Minimum Detectable Activity) of $^{131}I$ at this analytical condition was 0.6 Bq/g.
