Treatment of Numbness in Hyungsang Medicine (마목의 형상의학적 치료)

  • This thesis makes a review of symptoms and cause of the numbness in the literature. clinical case are studied and classified according to the Hyungsang of the patients. The followings are the conclusions: In case of Dam type persons, numbness is mainly caused by Fire with blood deficiency and so cured by tonifying the Jung and blood. In case of Bang Kwang type persons. it is generally caused by the deficiency of Ki and damp-phlegm and treated by reinforcing Ki and removing dampness. Persons of Jung and Hyal types are apt to be afflicted with numbness of deficiency symptoms which can be cured by tonifying the Jung and blood. Those of Ki and Shin types are inclined to get numb from the congestion and stagnancy and so treated by promotion the flow of Ki, dispelling stagnancy, resolving phlegm and promoting digestion. Numbness is common to the old people and women. The deficiency of blood and primordial energy is a cause of old people's numbness. Women get numb due to the pent-up feelings and emotional disturbance. The function disharmony of five Jang and six Bu makes the body lose the control of heat and cold or deficiency and excessiveness, which can be a cause of numbness. Especially the deficiency of the spleen results in numbness. When the special parts of the body become numb treatment must be decided after due consideration on which of the Jang and Bu or meridians is related to that affected area. In case of person with six meridian types. unbalance of Ki and blood leads the six atmospheric influences(wind, cold, heat, dampness, dryness and fire) get into the body through the most developed meridian and brings in numbness.

A Study on the Image Based Auto-focus Method Considering Jittering of Airborne EO/IR (항공탑재 EO/IR의 영상떨림을 고려한 영상기반 자동 초점조절 기법 연구)

  • In this paper, we propose methods to improve image-based auto-focus that can compensate for drawbacks of traditional auto-focus control. When adjusting the focus, there is a problem that the focus window cannot be set to the same position if the camera's LOS is not directed at the same location and flow or shake. To address this issue, we applied image tracking techniques to improve optimal focus localization accuracy. And also, although the same focus value should be calculated at the same focus step, but different values can be calculated by camera's fine shaking or image disturbance due to atmospheric scattering. To tackle this problem a SAFS (Stable Adjacency Frame Selection) has been proposed. As a result of this study, our proposed methodology shows more accurate than traditional methods in terms of finding best focus position.

Characteristics of soil respiration in Pinus densiflora stand undergoing secondary succession by fire-induced forest disturbance

  • The purpose of this study is to compare soil $CO_2$ efflux between burned and unburned sites dominated by Pinus densiflora forest in the Samcheok area where a big forest fire broke out along the east coast in 2000 and to measure soil $CO_2$ efflux and environmental factors between March 2011 and February 2012. Soil $CO_2$ efflux was measured with LI-6400 once a month; the soil temperature at 10 cm depth, air temperature, and soil moisture contents were measured in continuum. Soil $CO_2$ efflux showed the maximum value in August 2011 as 417.8 mg $CO_2m^{-2}h^{-1}$ (at burned site) and 1175.1 mg $CO_2m^{-2}h^{-1}$ (at unburned site), while it showed the minimum value as 41.4 mg $CO_2m^{-2}h^{-1}$ (at burned site) in December 2011 and 42.7 mg $CO_2m^{-2}h^{-1}$ (at unburned site) in February 2012. The result showed the high correlation between soil $CO_2$ efflux and the seasonal changes in temperature. More specifically, soil temperature showed higher correlation with soil $CO_2$ efflux in the burned site ($R^2$ = 0.932, P < 0.001) and the unburned site ($R^2$ = 0.942, P < 0.001) than the air temperature in the burned site ($R^2$ = 0.668, P < 0.01) and the unburned site ($R^2$ = 0.729, P < 0.001). $Q_{10}$ values showed higher sensitivity in the unburned site (4.572) than in the burned site (2.408). The total soil $CO_2$ efflux was obtained with the exponential function between soil $CO_2$ efflux and soil temperature during the research period, and it showed 2.5 times higher in the unburned site (35.59 t $CO_2ha^{-2}yr^{-1}$, 1 t = $10^3$ kg) than in the burned site (14.69 t $CO_2ha^{-2}yr^{-1}$).

  • For long time, the takeoff and landing control of airship was worked by human handling. With the development of the autonomous control system, the exact controls during the takeoff and landing were required and lots of methods and algorithms were suggested. This paper presents the result of airship take-off and landing by buoyancy control using air ballonet volume change and performance control of pitch angle for stable flight within the desired altitude. For the complexity of airship's dynamics, firstly, simple PID controller was applied. Due to the various atmospheric conditions, this controller didn't give satisfactory results. Therefore, new control method was designed to reduce rapidly the error between designed trajectory and actual trajectory by learning algorithm using an artificial neural network. Generally, ANN has various weaknesses such as large training time, selection of neuron and hidden layer numbers required to deal with complex problem. To overcome these drawbacks, in this paper, the RBFN (radial basis function network) controller developed. The weight value of RBFN is acquired by learning which to reduce the error between desired input output through and airship dynamics to impress the disturbance. As a result of simulation, the controller using the RBFN is superior to PID controller which maximum error is 15M.

Prediction of Damages and Evacuation Strategies for Gas Leaks from Chlorine Transport Vehicles (염소 운송차량 가스누출시 피해예측 및 대피방안)

  • The objective of this study is to predict and reduce potential damage caused by chlorine gas leaks, a hazardous material, when vehicles transporting it overturn due to accidents or other incidents. The goal is to forecast the anticipated damages caused by chlorine toxicity levels (ppm) and to design effective response strategies for mitigating them. To predict potential damages, we conducted quantitative assessments using the ALOHA program to calculate the toxic effects (ppm) and damage distances resulting from chlorine leaks, taking into account potential negligence of drivers during transportation. The extent of damage from toxic gas leaks is influenced by various factors, including the amount of the leaked hazardous material and the meteorological conditions at the time of the leak. Therefore, a comprehensive analysis of damage distances was conducted by examining various scenarios that involved variations in the amount of leakage and weather conditions. Under intermediate conditions (leakage quantity: 5 tons, wind speed: 3 m/s, atmospheric stability: D), the estimated distance for exceeding the AEGL-2 level of 2 ppm was calculated to be 9 km. This concentration poses a high risk of respiratory disturbance and potential human casualties, comparable to the toxicity of hydrogen chloride. In particular, leaks in urban areas can lead to significant loss of life. In the event of a leakage incident, we proposed a plan to minimize damage by implementing appropriate response strategies based on the location and amount of the leak when an accident occurs.

Spatio-temporal Variations in the Dynamics and Export of Large Wood in Korean Mountain Streams (우리나라 산지계류에 있어서 유목 동태의 시.공간적 다양성과 그에 따른 유출 특성)

  • In-stream large wood (LW) has a critical impact on the geomorphic characteristics relevant to ecosystem management and disaster prevention, yet relatively little is known about variations in its dynamics and subsequent export on the watershed-scale perspective in Korea. Here we review variations in the dynamics and subsequent export of LW as a function of stream size, which is appropriate for Korean mountain streams. In upstream channels with narrow bankfull widths and low stream discharges, a massive amount of LW, resulting from forest dynamics and hillslope processes, may persist for several decades on valley floor. These pieces, however, are eventually transported during infrequent debris flows from small tributaries, as well as peak hydrology in main-stem channels. During the transport, these pieces suffer fragmentation caused by frictions with boulders, and stream bank and bed. Although infrequent, these events can be dominant processes in the export of significant amounts of LW from upstream channel networks. In downstream channels with wide bankfull widths and high stream discharges, LW is dominantly recruited by forest dynamics and bank erosion only at locations where the channel is adjacent to mature riparian forests. With the LW pieces that are supplied from the upstream, these pieces are continuously transported downstream during rainfall events. This leads to further fragmentation of the LW pieces, which increases their transportability. With decreasing stream-bed slope, these floated LW pieces, however, can be stored and form logjams at various depositional sites, which were developed by interaction between channel forms and floodplains. These pieces may decay for decades and be subsequently transported as particulate or dissolved organic materials, resulting in the limitation of LW fluvial export from the systems. However, in Korea, such depositional sites were developed in the extremely limited streams with a large dimension and no flood history for decades, and thus it does not be expected that the reduction of LW export amount, which can be caused by the long-term storage. Our review presents a generalized view of LW processing and is relevant to ecosystem management and disaster prevention for Korean mountain streams.
