The estimation of rice yield affects the income of farmers as well as the fields related to agriculture. Moreover, it has an important effect on the government's policy making including the control of supply demand and the price estimation. Thus, it is necessary to build the crop yield estimation model and from the past, many studies utilizing empirical statistical models or artificial neural network algorithms have been conducted through climatic and satellite data. Presently, scientists have achieved successful results with deep learning algorithms in the field of pattern recognition, computer vision, speech recognition, etc. Among deep learning algorithms, the SSAE (Stacked Sparse AutoEncoder) algorithm has been confirmed to be applicable in the field of forecasting through time series data and in this study, SSAE was utilized to estimate the rice yield in South Korea. The climatic and satellite data were used as the input variables and different types of input data were constructed according to the period of rice growth in South Korea. As a result, the combination of the satellite data from May to September and the climatic data using the 16 day average value showed the best performance with showing average annual %RMSE (percent Root Mean Square Error) and region %RMSE of 7.43% and 7.16% that the applicability of the SSAE algorithm could be proved in the field of rice yield estimation.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the performance of 3 calibration methods, modified partial least squares (MPLS), local PLS (LOCAL) and artificial neural network (ANN) on the prediction of chemical composition of forages, using a large NIR database. The study used forage samples (n=25,977) from Australia, Europe (Belgium, Germany, Italy and Sweden) and North America (Canada and U.S.A) with information relative to moisture, crude protein and neutral detergent fibre content. The spectra of the samples were collected with 10 different Foss NIR Systems instruments, which were either standardized or not standardized to one master instrument. The spectra were trimmed to a wavelength range between 1100 and 2498 nm. Two data sets, one standardized (IVAL) and the other not standardized (SVAL) were used as independent validation sets, but 10% of both sets were omitted and kept for later expansion of the calibration database. The remaining samples were combined into one database (n=21,696), which was split into 75% calibration (CALBASE) and 25% validation (VALBASE). The chemical components in the 3 validation data sets were predicted with each model derived from CALBASE using the calibration database before and after it was expanded with 10% of the samples from IVAL and SVAL data sets. Calibration performance was evaluated using standard error of prediction corrected for bias (SEP(C)), bias, slope and R2. None of the models appeared to be consistently better across all validation sets. VALBASE was predicted well by all models, with smaller SEP(C) and bias values than for IVAL and SVAL. This was not surprising as VALBASE was selected from the calibration database and it had a sample population similar to CALBASE, whereas IVAL and SVAL were completely independent validation sets. In most cases, Local and ANN models, but not modified PLS, showed considerable improvement in the prediction of IVAL and SVAL after the calibration database had been expanded with the 10% samples of IVAL and SVAL reserved for calibration expansion. The effects of sample processing, instrument standardization and differences in reference procedure were partially confounded in the validation sets, so it was not possible to determine which factors were most important. Further work on the development of large databases must address the problems of standardization of instruments, harmonization and standardization of laboratory procedures and even more importantly, the definition of the database population.

Recently, there was an increasing demand for an integrated access control system which is capable of user recognition, door control, and facility operations control for smart buildings automation. The market available door lock access control solutions need to be improved from the current level security of door locks operations where security is compromised when a password or digital keys are exposed to the strangers. At present, the access control system solution providers focusing on developing an automatic access control system using (RF) based technologies like bluetooth, WiFi, etc. All the existing automatic door access control technologies required an additional hardware interface and always vulnerable security threads. This paper proposes the user identification and authentication solution for automatic door lock control operations using camera based visible light communication (VLC) technology. This proposed approach use the cameras installed in building facility, user smart devices and IoT open source controller based LED light sensors installed in buildings infrastructure. The building facility installed IoT LED light sensors transmit the authorized user and facility information color grid code and the smart device camera decode the user informations and verify with stored user information then indicate the authentication status to the user and send authentication acknowledgement to facility door lock integrated camera to control the door lock operations. The camera based VLC receiver uses the artificial intelligence (AI) methods to decode VLC data to improve the VLC performance. This paper implements the testbed model using IoT open-source based LED light sensor with CCTV camera and user smartphone devices. The experiment results are verified with custom made convolutional neural network (CNN) based AI techniques for VLC deciding method on smart devices and PC based CCTV monitoring solutions. The archived experiment results confirm that proposed door access control solution is effective and robust for automatic door access control.
Emotion science is one of the rapidly expanding engineering/scientific disciplines which has a major impact on human society. Such growing interests in emotion science and engineering owe the recent trend that various academic fields are being merged. In this paper we review the recent techniques in the measuring the emotion related elements and applications which include animal model system to investigate the neural network and behaviour, artificial nose/neuronal chip for in-depth understanding of sensing the outer stimuli, metabolic controlling using emotional stimulant such as sounds. In particular, microfabrication techniques made it possible to construct nano/micron scale sensing parts/chips to accommodate the olfactory cells and neuron cells and gave us a new opportunities to investigate the emotion precisely. Recent developments in the measurement techniques will be able to help combine the social sciences and natural sciences, and consequently expand the scope of studies.
Community-based Question Answering system is a system which provides answers for each question from the documents uploaded on web communities. In order to enhance the capacity of question analysis, former methods have developed specific rules suitable for a target region or have applied machine learning to partial processes. However, these methods incur an excessive cost for expanding fields or lead to cases in which system is overfitted for a specific field. This paper proposes a multiple machine learning method which automates the overall process by adapting appropriate machine learning in each procedure for efficient processing of community-based Question Answering system. This system can be divided into question analysis part and answer selection part. The question analysis part consists of the question focus extractor, which analyzes the focused phrases in questions and uses conditional random fields, and the question type classifier, which classifies topics of questions and uses support vector machine. In the answer selection part, the we trains weights that are used by the similarity estimation models through an artificial neural network. Also these are a number of cases in which the results of morphological analysis are not reliable for the data uploaded on web communities. Therefore, we suggest a method that minimizes the impact of morphological analysis by using character features in the stage of question analysis. The proposed system outperforms the former system by showing a Mean Average Precision criteria of 0.765 and R-Precision criteria of 0.872.
Numerous enterprises, organizations and individual users are exposed to large DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks. DDoS attacks are performed through a BotNet, which is composed of a number of computers infected with a malware, e.g., zombie PCs and a special computer that controls the zombie PCs within a hierarchical chain of a command system. In order to detect a malware, a malware detection software or a vaccine program must identify the malware signature through an in-depth analysis, and these signatures need to be updated in priori. This is time consuming and costly. In this paper, we propose a botnet detection scheme that does not require a periodic signature update using an artificial neural network model. The proposed scheme exploits Word2Vec and accelerated hierarchical density-based clustering. Botnet detection performance of the proposed method was evaluated using the CTU-13 dataset. The experimental result shows that the detection rate is 99.9%, which outperforms the conventional method.
In order to quickly and accurately diagnose pneumonia on a chest X-ray image, different batch sizes of 4, 8, 16, and 32 were applied to the same Xception deep learning model, and modeling was performed 3 times, respectively. As a result of the performance evaluation of deep learning modeling, in the case of modeling to which batch size 32 was applied, the results of accuracy, loss function value, mean square error, and learning time per epoch showed the best results. And in the accuracy evaluation of the Test Metric, the modeling applied with batch size 8 showed the best results, and the precision evaluation showed excellent results in all batch sizes. In the recall evaluation, modeling applied with batch size 16 showed the best results, and for F1-score, modeling applied with batch size 16 showed the best results. And the AUC score evaluation was the same for all batch sizes. Based on these results, deep learning modeling with batch size 32 showed high accuracy, stable artificial neural network learning, and excellent speed. It is thought that accurate and rapid lesion detection will be possible if a batch size of 32 is applied in an automatic diagnosis study for feature extraction and classification of pneumonia in chest X-ray images using deep learning in the future.
As the need for improvement of transparency and fairness in the selection of national R&D projects has been continuously raised, we analyzed the impact on the evaluation selection results by evaluation indexes for The land transportation technology commercialization support project and searched for ways to improve indexes using the analysis results. As for the research data, it were applied as selection results of new R&D projects and evaluation indexes in two fields(SME innovation and start-up) in 2021. Logistic regression analysis is used for the influence of each evaluation indexes on the evaluation result, and for the regression model, evaluation indexes with low influence are removed in advance through artificial neural network multiple perceptron analysis to improve the reliability of the analysis results. As a result of the analysis, in the field of SME innovation, the influence of the evaluation index on the workforce planning was the lowest and the influence of the appropriateness of commercialization promotion plan was the highest. In the start-up field, the influence of the evaluation indexes for technology development suitability, marketability, and suitability for carrying out the project were estimated to be similar to each other, and the influence of the technology evaluation index was found to be the lowest. The analysis results of this thesis suggest the need for continuous improvement of selection and evaluation indexes, and by using the analysis results to select a fair R&D institution according to the selection of appropriate indexes, it will be possible to contribute to deriving excellent research results and fostering excellent companies in the field of land transportation.
Temperature and relative humidity are important factors in crop cultivation and should be properly controlled for improving crop yield and quality. In order to control the environment accurately, we need to predict how the environment will change in the future. The objective of this study was to predict air temperature and relative humidity at a future time by using a multilayer perceptron (MLP). The data required to train MLP was collected every 10 min from Oct. 1, 2016 to Feb. 28, 2018 in an eight-span greenhouse ($1,032m^2$) cultivating mango (Mangifera indica cv. Irwin). The inputs for the MLP were greenhouse inside and outside environment data, and set-up and operating values of environment control devices. By using these data, the MLP was trained to predict the air temperature and relative humidity at a future time of 10 to 120 min. Considering typical four seasons in Korea, three-day data of the each season were compared as test data. The MLP was optimized with four hidden layers and 128 nodes for air temperature ($R^2=0.988$) and with four hidden layers and 64 nodes for relative humidity ($R^2=0.990$). Due to the characteristics of MLP, the accuracy decreased as the prediction time became longer. However, air temperature and relative humidity were properly predicted regardless of the environmental changes varied from season to season. For specific data such as spray irrigation, however, the numbers of trained data were too small, resulting in poor predictive accuracy. In this study, air temperature and relative humidity were appropriately predicted through optimization of MLP, but were limited to the experimental greenhouse. Therefore, it is necessary to collect more data from greenhouses at various places and modify the structure of neural network for generalization.
We call a data set in which the number of records belonging to a certain class far outnumbers the number of records belonging to the other class, 'imbalanced data set'. Most of the classification techniques perform poorly on imbalanced data sets. When we evaluate the performance of a certain classification technique, we need to measure not only 'accuracy' but also 'sensitivity' and 'specificity'. In a customer churn prediction problem, 'retention' records account for the majority class, and 'churn' records account for the minority class. Sensitivity measures the proportion of actual retentions which are correctly identified as such. Specificity measures the proportion of churns which are correctly identified as such. The poor performance of the classification techniques on imbalanced data sets is due to the low value of specificity. Many previous researches on imbalanced data sets employed 'oversampling' technique where members of the minority class are sampled more than those of the majority class in order to make a relatively balanced data set. When a classification model is constructed using this oversampled balanced data set, specificity can be improved but sensitivity will be decreased. In this research, we developed a hybrid model of support vector machine (SVM), artificial neural network (ANN) and decision tree, that improves specificity while maintaining sensitivity. We named this hybrid model 'hybrid SVM model.' The process of construction and prediction of our hybrid SVM model is as follows. By oversampling from the original imbalanced data set, a balanced data set is prepared. SVM_I model and ANN_I model are constructed using the imbalanced data set, and SVM_B model is constructed using the balanced data set. SVM_I model is superior in sensitivity and SVM_B model is superior in specificity. For a record on which both SVM_I model and SVM_B model make the same prediction, that prediction becomes the final solution. If they make different prediction, the final solution is determined by the discrimination rules obtained by ANN and decision tree. For a record on which SVM_I model and SVM_B model make different predictions, a decision tree model is constructed using ANN_I output value as input and actual retention or churn as target. We obtained the following two discrimination rules: 'IF ANN_I output value <0.285, THEN Final Solution = Retention' and 'IF ANN_I output value ${\geq}0.285$, THEN Final Solution = Churn.' The threshold 0.285 is the value optimized for the data used in this research. The result we present in this research is the structure or framework of our hybrid SVM model, not a specific threshold value such as 0.285. Therefore, the threshold value in the above discrimination rules can be changed to any value depending on the data. In order to evaluate the performance of our hybrid SVM model, we used the 'churn data set' in UCI Machine Learning Repository, that consists of 85% retention customers and 15% churn customers. Accuracy of the hybrid SVM model is 91.08% that is better than that of SVM_I model or SVM_B model. The points worth noticing here are its sensitivity, 95.02%, and specificity, 69.24%. The sensitivity of SVM_I model is 94.65%, and the specificity of SVM_B model is 67.00%. Therefore the hybrid SVM model developed in this research improves the specificity of SVM_B model while maintaining the sensitivity of SVM_I model.
