  • The purpose of this study is to explore and categorize the rhetorical strategies of text construction in research articles and to provide data for academic writing education for foreign graduate students. This study analyzes 30 research articles by Korean writers from Korean language and Korean language education fields, and categorizes the rhetorical strategies according to the roles of the writer as a RA form composer, a manager of research content, and a communicator. On the basis of the strategies, this study analyzes 18 term papers of foreign graduate students and inspects their weaknesses in using the rhetorical strategies. Based on the results of analysis, this study suggests rhetorical strategy education for KAP learners that emphasizes validity and clarifies argument along with attracting readers.

  • The purpose of this article is to consider the usage of 'mosu' and 'haberi' in "Shasekishu" written in middle Japanese. In old Japanese, 'mosu' and 'haberi' was used as a modest usage. In middle Japanese, however, the term came to be used in the way to pay respect to the hearer with the shift of its usage, further, in 'jinobun', the writer is using it in the stylistic usage which plays a significant role in providing aesthetic effect for many unspecified readers. As a device to express the honorific forms in middle Japanese, the stylistic usage is claimed to be found with other literary works as well as "Shasekishu".

  • This article presents the RSOA-based re-modulation schemes for practical application to the WDM-PON link. Emphasis is put on the three methods for reducing the residual downstream signal in the upstream transmission; the simplest one is to use the RSOA gain-saturation property, the second uses selective filtering of the adiabatic-chirped DFB-LD output spectrum, and the last uses a dynamic RSOA gain control by varying its driving current according to the incident binary signal. The reflection sensitivity in the proposed re-modulation link is also qualitatively presented in the cases of using two different types of seed light: coherent light from DFB-LD array and spectrum-sliced incoherent ASE light. We show experimental results of an error-free bidirectional gigabit transmission over 20 km at -30 dB reflection with the spectrum-sliced ASE seed light.

  • The article is devoted to the problems and prospects of integration of informational technologies in the administration of justice as a necessary component of the development of the informational society in Ukraine. In general, informational technologies make it possible to create new forms of organization and interaction of bodies of public authorities with society, to introduce innovative solutions for legal regulation and organization of public relations. More and more services for citizens are moving to electronic format. Judicial reform is aimed at ensuring more comfortable and convenient interaction with the courts. The need for the usage of informational technology in the proceedings is preconditioned by the global informatization of modern society, the development of new forms of interaction in the civil sphere with the usage of electronic means of communication: the global Internet, mobile, and satellite communication systems and more. "Electronic justice" involves the use of information and communication technologies in the implementation of procedural law.

  • Osteoid osteoma is a benign bone tumor composed of osteoid and atypical bone. The most commonly known sites of following tumor are long tubular bones, especially femur and tibia. Yet, development of osteoid osteoma in the foot is unusual, and there aren't much reported literatures of metatarsal osteoid osteoma. In this article, we report a case of the osteoid osteoma in the 3rd metatarsal bone of a 14-year-old male patient.

  • The aim of this review article is to summarize the role of titanium oxide ($TiO_2$) nanomaterials in the remediation of the aquatic environment contaminated with various emerging pollutants. The advanced oxidation process led by the semiconductor $TiO_2$ is an impetus in the remediation technology. Therefore, a vast number of literature works are available in this area. Further, the role of modified $TiO_2$ or thin film materials were discussed in the review. Also, the Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance (LSPR) effect of using noble metaldoped $TiO_2$ played an interesting role in the remediation process.

  • Endometriosis is a chronic disease associated with pelvic pain and infertility. Several classification systems for the severity of endometriosis have been proposed. Of these, the revised American Society for Reproductive Medicine classification is the most well-known. The ENZIAN classification was developed to classify deep infiltrating endometriosis and focused on the retroperitoneal structures. The endometriosis fertility index was developed to predict the fertility outcomes in patients who underwent surgery for endometriosis. Finally, the American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopists classification is currently being developed, for which 30 endometriosis experts are analyzing and researching data by assigning scores to categories considered important; however, it has not yet been fully validated and published. Currently, none of the classification systems are considered the gold standard. In this article, we review the classification systems, identify their pros and cons, and discuss what improvements need to be made to each system in the future.

  • By the increasing amount of waste materials, it eventually dumped into the environment and covering a larger area of the landfill which cause several environmental pollution problems. The utilization of Palm Kernal Shell Ash (PKSA) in concrete might bring a great benefit in addressing both environmental and economic issues. This article investigates the effect of PKSA as a partial cement replacement of High Strength Concrete (HSC). Several concrete mixtures were prepared with different PKSA of 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30% replaced by the cement mass. This procedure was replicated twice for the two different target mean strengths of 40 MPa and 50 MPa. The mixtures were prepared to test different fresh and hardened properties of HSC including slump test, the compressive strength of 3, 7, 14, 28, and 90 days, flexural strength of 28-days, drying shrinkage, density measurement, and sorptivity. It was observed 10% PKSA replacement as optimum percentage which reduced the drying shrinkage, sorptivity, and density and improved the late-age compressive strength of concrete.

  • Despite the enormous success in Japan of Korean popular culture, including TV dramas and K-pop, over the past few decades, anti-Korean sentiment in the country has become increasingly visible and intense. In this article, we examine how young Japanese female fans of Korean popular culture engage with the Korean Wave discourse while also engaging with―or, rather, disengaging from―anti-Korean movements and hate speech. Whereas previous scholarship on the Korean Wave has emphasized the power of active fans' agency, this paper investigates how the fans who passionately and self-reflexively consume Korean popular culture understand and react to the growing anti-Korean sentiment in Japan. Through in-depth interviews with 15 of these fans in their 20s and 30s, we show how they have navigated the discursive space between appreciation for Korean culture and anti-Koreanism in Japan.

  • In Vol. 31, No. 1, our journal prepared four review articles and two original papers. First, in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of our journal, the first review article described the history, development, and recent efforts for the qualitative improvement of the journal. For aviation workers, dizziness is an important disease that can interfere with their work. So, in the second review, we introduced guidelines that aviation medical examiners should be aware of in evaluating aviation workers who complain of dizziness. In the era of coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic, it is very important for aviation workers to get the vaccination safely and return to their work. So, Kwon introduced the latest updated guidelines for vaccination for aviation workers. In addition, Kim described the relationship between COVID-19 infection and respiratory allergic disease, and appropriate treatment guidelines. Lim investigated the recent trend of human papillomavirus vaccination for foreigners during the COVID-19 period, and investigated its implications. Finally, Ra developed various programs to strengthen students' global competencies and analyzed their satisfaction.
