Even if a small amount of arsenic (As) is entering to small agricultural reservoir from upper streams, small agricultural reservoir becomes sensitive to changes in arsenic concentration depending on the water level in case of accumulation continuously because of its scale. If we want to manage arsenic concentration in small agricultural reservoir, it is very important to understand arsenic changes in agricultural reservoir. In spite of the fact that modeling is the most accurate method for analyzing arsenic concentration changes in small agricultural reservoirs, but, it is difficult to monitor arsenic change everyday. So, if data is prepared for modeling arsenic changes, water quality modeling is more effective than monitoring. Therefore, in this study, arsenic concentration changes was simulated and arsenic concentration change mechanism in small reservoir was analyzed using hydrological and water quality monitoring data and by conducting EFDC (Environment Fluid Dynamics Code)-WASP (Water Quality Analysis Simulation Program) linkage. EFDC-WASP coupling technique was very useful for modeling arsenic changes because EFDC can consider hydrodynamic and WASP can perform arsenic concentration simulation, separately. As a results of this study, during dry season, As concentration was maintained relatively high arsenic concentrations. Therefore, water level control will be needed for managing As concentration of reservoir.

This study was performed to investigate the effect of humic acid on the adsorption of arsenic onto hematite and its binding mechanism through the chemical speciation modeling in the binary system and the adsorption modeling in the ternary system. The complexation modeling of arsenic and humic acid was suitable for the binding model with the basis of the electrostatic repulsion and the effect of bridging metal. In comparison with the experimental adsorption data in the ternary system, the competitive adsorption model from the binary intrinsic equilibrium constants was consistent with the amount of arsenic adsorption. However, the additive rule showed the deviation of model in the opposite way of cationic heavy metals, because the reduced organic complexation of arsenic and the enhanced oxyanionic competition diminished the adsorption of arsenic. In terms of the reaction mechanism, the organic complex of arsenic, neutral As(III) and oxyanionic As(V) species were transported and adsorbed competitively to the hematite surface forming the inner-sphere complex in the presence of humic acid.

Tile development of a porous iron-oxide coated sand filter system can be modelled with the analytical solution of tile transport equation in order to obtain the operating parameters and investigate the mechanism of arsenic removal. The adsorbed amount from the model simulation showed the limitation of adsorption removal during arsenic transport. A loss reaction term in the transport equation plays a role in the mass loss in column conditions, and then resulted into the better model fitting, particularly, for arsenate. Further, the competitive oxyanions delayed the breakthrough near MCL (10 $\mu$g/L) due to the competitive adsorption. This is the reason why arsenate can be strongly attracted in tile interface of an iron-oxide coated sand, and competing oxyanions can occupy the adsorption sites. Therefore, arsenic retention was regulated by non-equilibrium of arsenic adsorption in a porous iron-oxide coated sand media. The transport-limited process seemed to be affect the arsenic adsorption by coated sand.

The mineral medicines mean a sort of mineral or rock for medical treatment and natural material using their chemical components and physical properties. In this study, it was apprehended the mineralogical characteristics of As-bearing group mineral medicines. The extraction test is an vitro test system for predicting the bioavailability of the major and minor elements from mineral medicines and incorporates gastrointestinal tract parameters representative of a human(including stomach and small intestinal pH, stomach mixing time and velocity). The results of the extraction test are used for reaction path modeling in human body. Reaction path modeling in human body can predict digestion with gastric juice as well as bioavailability, speciation. Also, it can predict accumulation of arsenic as pH condition. As the results of the extraction test for digestion, the amounts of Fe extraction was the highest, followed by As, Ca, Ni. In addition, as the results of the reaction path modeling between arsenic compounds and gastric juice using thermodynamic data, when absorbed, major species are followed by H₃As₃S/sub 6/(aq), As₃S/sub 6/ (aq), AsO/sup +/, H₂As₃S/sup 6-/, H₂AsO/sup 3-/, HAs₃S6/sup 2-/, HAsO/sub 3//sup 2-/ and AsO/sub 3//sup 3-/. Specifically the concentration of H₃As₃S/sub 6/(aq) is the highest. As pH increases, the concentration of H₂AsO/sup 3-/, HAsO/sub 3//sup 2-/, HAsO/sub 3//sup 3-/, HAs₃S/sub 6//sup 2-/, H₂As₃S/sup 6-/, and H₃As₃S/sub 6/ increases, whereas the concentration of H₃As₃S/sub 6/ and AsO/sup +/ decreases. On the results of this study, it is able to find out effective and toxic components of poisonous arsenic group of mineral medicines and expected to be widely used for the development of new medicines.

The fate and transport of many trace metals, metalloids, and radionuclides in porous media is closely linked to the biogeochemical reactions that occur as a result of organic carbon being sequentially degraded by different microorganisms using a series of terminal electron acceptors. The spatial distribution of these biogeochemical reactions is affected by processes that are often unique and/or characteristic to a specific environment. Generic model formulations have been developed and applied to simulate the fate and transport of arsenic in two hydrologic settings, permanently flooded freshwater sediments, namely non-vegetated wetland sediments and vegetated wetland sediments. The key physical processes that have been considered are sedimentation, effects of roots on biogeochemistry, advective transport, and differences in mixing processes. Steady-state formulations were applied to the sedimentary environments. Results of numerical simulations show that these physical processes significantly affect the chemical profiles of different electron acceptors, their reduced species, and arsenate as well as arsenite that will result from the degradation of an organic carbon source in the sediments. Even though specific biological transformations are allowed to proceed only in zones where they are thermodynamically favorable, the results show that mixing as well as abiotic reactions can make the profiles of individual electron acceptors overlap and/or appear to reverse their expected order.

Soil contaminants measured and managed in Korea include those of geologic origin such as arsenic, cadmium, copper, lead, zinc, nickel, mercury, and fluoride. This study identifies the distribution of these contaminants using GIS modeling to analyze the spatial probability of soil contamination originating from geology. The modeling found that cadmium, copper, lead, nickel, and mercury often exceed the regulated standard by <1%. Concentrations of arsenic and zinc greatly exceeded the standard in the vicinity of mines and industrial complexes: mining and industry seemed to have substantial effects on the concentrations of these metals. Although fluoride was sampled at the lowest number of points, its frequency of exceeding the standard was the highest. No obvious source of artificial contamination has been identified, and fluoride's distribution characteristics showed continuity over a wide area, suggesting a strong correlation between geological characteristics and fluoride concentration. The highest frequencies of fluoride exceeding the standard were in Jurassic granite (40.00%) and Precambrian banded gneiss (34.12%). As these rocks contributed to the formation of soil through their weathering, high fluoride concentrations can be expected in soil in areas where these rocks are distributed.

In this paper, we report the first three-dimensional simulation result of the transient enhanced diffusion(TED) of dopants in the ion-implanted silicon by employing our 3D semiconductor process simulator, INPROS system. In order to simulate three-dimensional TED redistribution of dopants in silicon, the dopant distributions after the ion implantation was calculated by Monte Carlo(MC) method, followed by finite element(FE) numerical solver for thermal annealing. Excellent agreement between the simulated 3D profile and the SIMS data has been obtained for ion-implanted arsenic and phosphorus after annealing the boron marker layer at 75$0^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours. Our three-dimensional TED simulation could successfully explain the reverse short channel effect(RSCE) by taking the 3D point defect distribution into account. A coupled TED simulation and device simulation allows reverse short channel effect on threshold to be accurately predicted.
