An experiment was conducted to determine the effects of two levels of rumen undegradable protein (RUP) without or with whole or extruded flaxseed on milk yield, milk component, milk fatty acids (FAs) profile and plasma metabolites in transition ewes. Three weeks before and after lambing, seventy-two Baluchi ewes were used in a completely randomized design with a 3 × 2 factorial arrangement of treatments. The treatments contained 1) no flaxseed + 20% RUP (no flaxseed, low RUP [NFLR]); 2) no flaxseed + 40% RUP (no flaxseed, high RUP [NFHR]); 3) 10% whole flaxseed + 20% RUP (whole flaxseed, low RUP [WFLR]); 4) 10% whole flaxseed + 40% RUP (whole flaxseed, high RUP [WFHR]); 5) 10% extruded flaxseed + 20% RUP (extruded flaxseed, low RUP [EFLR]), and 6) 10% extruded flaxseed + 40% RUP (extruded flaxseed, high RUP [EFHR]). Ewes fed 10% extruded flaxseed exhibited higher (p < 0.001) dry matter intake (DMI) and colostrum yield (p < 0.1) compared to other treatments. Two types of flaxseed and RUP levels had no significant effect on milk yield, but milk fat and protein contents decreased and increased in diets containing 40% RUP, respectively. Ewes fed extruded flaxseed produced milk with lower concentrations of saturated fatty acids (SFA) and higher α-linolenic and linoleic acids and also polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) compared to other groups (p < 0.05). During post-lambing, the ewes fed diets containing flaxseed exhibited higher concentration of serum non-esterified FAs (NEFA) compared to diets without flaxseed (p < 0.01). The concentration of serum β-hydroxybutyric acid (BHBA) decreased in the diets containing flaxseed types at pre-lambing, but increased in diets containing extruded flaxseed at post-lambing (p < 0.01). The serum glucose concentration of ewes (pre and post-lambing) which consumed diets containing extruded flaxseed or 40% RUP increased, but blood urea concentration was elevated following supplementation of diet with whole flaxseed or 40% RUP (p < 0.001). In conclusion, utilization of 10% extruded flaxseed in the diets of transition ewes had positive effects on animal performance with favorable changes in milk FAs profile. However, there is no considerable advantage to supply more than 20% RUP level in the diet of transition dairy sheep.
The experiment was designed as a 3 × 3 × 2 factorial arrangement of treatments, including (i) pomegranate peel (zero, 4%, and 8 percent), (ii) oxidized soybean oil (zero, 2%, and 4 percent), and (iii) alpha-tocopherol (zero and 200 mg/kg). Supplementation of 8% pomegranate peel in diets significantly decreased the growth performance of broiler chickens. The supplementation of 4% oxidized oil in diets significantly reduced body weight gain and Feed intake whole experimental period (p < 0.05). The results showed that supplementation of 4% pomegranate peel in the diet was associated with low aspartate transaminase (AST), alanine transaminase, and malondialdehyde (MDA). However, 4% pomegranate peel increased the total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activities. The supplemental 4% oxidized oil increased the serum AST, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and MDA concentrations. TAC, SOD, and Catalase (CAT) activities were affected by 4% oxidized oil and alpha-tocopherol. The use of oxidized oil and vitamin E decreased MDA concentration. The serum glucose and globulin concentrations were significantly lower in the 8% pomegranate peel. The results showed that supplementation with 4% pomegranate peel in diets reduced serum low-density lipoprotein (LDL). The inclusion of 4% oxidized oil in diets reduced serum glucose and increased the blood lipid concentration such as triglyceride, cholesterol and LDL. Vitamin E supplementation reduced the serum cholesterol and LDL concentrations. The use of 8% pomegranate peel reduced red blood cell (RBC), hemoglobin, and packed cell value (PCV). The results indicated that supplementation with 8% pomegranate peel and 4% oxidized oil in diets decreased the immunoglobulin concentration in broilers. In addition, it was found that the inclusion of 4% pomegranate peel in diets resulted in higher IgG, IgM and total immunoglobulin. Pomegranate peel supplementation significantly decreased meat MDA concentration. Supplementation of 4% oxidized oil increased MDA of meat (p < 0.05). Vitamin E supplementation (200 mg/kg) significantly decreased MDA of meat (p < 0.05). Consequently, the results of this experiment showed that supplementation with 4% pomegranate peel had beneficial effects on broiler chickens. It was also found that feeding 2% oxidized oil in diets had no adverse effect on broilers.
Oryzalin is a herbicide that disrupts the arrangement of microtubules by binding to tubulin, thereby blocking the anisotropic growth of plant cells. Microtubules and microfilaments are cytoskeleton components that have been implicated in plant growth through their influence on the formation of cell walls. Microtubules also play roles in the sedimentation of amyloplasts in the root tip columella cells; this sedimentation is related to gravity sensing and results in downward root growth in the soil for absorption of water and minerals. However, the orientation of microtubules changes depending on the level of ethylene in plant cells. A recent study reported that oryzalin stimulated ethylene production via 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) synthase and ACC oxidase and caused a concentration-dependent inhibition of root growth and gravitropic responses. The aim of the present study was to investigate the possibility that oryzalin-induced inhibition might be recovered by the application of inhibitors of ethylene production, such as 10-4 M cobalt ions and 10-8 M aminoethoxyvinylglycine (AVG). The inhibition of root growth and gravitropic response was overcome by 10-20% by an 8 hr treatment with cobalt ions or AVG. These results suggest that ethylene levels could regulate root growth and gravitropic responses in Arabidopsis.
Objective: The objectives of this study were to compare the effects of normal and low protein content (PC) of starter diet supplemented or not with blends of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) on growth performance of broilers under summer conditions and to investigate whether these effects altered some quality traits and the characteristics of gastrointestinal tract. Methods: A total of 768 mixed-sex broiler chicks (Ross 308, one-d-old) with an average initial body weight (BW) of 47.6±1.03 g were allocated into six treatments with four replications in 2×3 factorial arrangement. Factors were: PC, normal (N, 22% to d 15); and low (L, 20% to d 15); and added BCAA blends, L-leucine, L-isoleucine, and L-valine at zero (0L:0I:0V); 1.0, 0.25, and 0.25 (4L:1I:1V); or 1.0, 0.25, 0.75 (4L:1I:3V) g/kg of diet. Hence, six dietary treatments were named as N0L:0I:0V, N4L:1I:1V, N4L:1I:3V, L0L:0I:0V, L4L:1I:1V, and L4L:1I:3V. Average indoor temperature and humidity were 32.8℃±1.7℃ and 61.1%±4.12%, respectively. Results: BW, feed conversion ratio (FCR) and carcass weight were not affected by PC, BCCA and their interaction (p>0.05). The L diets decreased the water holding capacity of the breast (p = 0.002) and thigh (p = 0.050) meats and dressing percentage (p = 0.005) compared to the N diets. The 4L:1I:1V diet decreased breast yield compared to the 0L:0I:0V diets (p = 0.041). The effect of PC on feed intake, mortality and gastrointestinal trait weight were depended on the L:I:V ratios under summer conditions due to interactions between factors (p<0.05). The FI and mortality of L4L:1I:1V broilers were lower than those of N4L:1I:1V birds (p<0.05). Conclusion: It was concluded that the blends of BCAAs used failed to improve performance and to promote breast yields, because diets with normal or with reduced protein supplemented or not with BCAAs up to d 15 produced a similar BW and FCR in broilers raised in hot-climate conditions.
In urban areas, structures are installed deep underground in the lower part of the structure to utilize space. Therefore, a retaining wall is used to prevent earth pressure from the ground when constructing a structure. Due to the development of construction technology, retaining wall applied to excavation work are used to prevent danger such as falling rocks and landslides in temporary facilities when construction or retaining walls are installed. In general, the application of a retaining wall to a temporary facility during the embankment construction is the case of expanding an existing roads or railways. Therefore, it is necessary to study the retaining wall applied to the embankment construction such as the double-track site of the high-speed railway. In this study, two types of common one row H-pile retaining wall and two types of IER retaining wall were analyzed, and the stability of the retaining wall applied to the construction of double-track of the high-speed railway was analyzed. The earth retaining wall is a construction method that combines forced pile applied to the stabilization of the slope with the wall of the earth retaining wall. As a result of the analysis, the IER retaining wall had maximum lateral displacement of 19.0% compared to the type with H-plie installed only in the front while dynamic load was applied. In addition, the slower the speed of high-speed railway, the more displacement occurred, and the results show that more caution is needed when designing the ground in low-speed sections.

AtoN is an acronym for aids to navigation that indicate the position or direction of navigable areas and obstructions. AtoN should be arranged in consideration of unfamiliar navigator's convenience when it is indicated as the limits of navigable areas. Several narrow channels exist on the SW coast of Korea owing to the geographical effect, and the lateral or cardinal marks by the IALA maritime buoyage system are arranged along the narrow channels. This is an actual case study that analyzed the AtoN's role for safety navigation after changes in the maritime traffic environment owing to aquarfarm's development on narrow channels in the Korean SW coast. The analysis results of 5 narrow channels indicated that certain marks did not function properly as lateral or cardinal marks owing to the aquarfarm's location on navigable areas. Therefore, the following were suggested to improve AtoN on narrow channels: changing the position of marks, installing aquafarm's marks, and expressing the aquafarm's position on the nautical chart.

Objective: This experiment investigated the effects of supplementing vitamin D3-fortified sow and progeny diets with 25(OH)D3 on growth performance, carcass characteristics, immunity, and pork meat quality. Methods: The present study involved the assessment of supplementing the diet of sows and their progeny with or without 25 (OH)D3 in a 2×2 factorial arrangement on the performance and production characteristics of wean-finish pigs. Forty-eight multiparous sows were assigned to a basal diet containing 2000 IU/kg vitamin D3 and supplemented without (CON) or with (TRT) 50 ㎍/kg 25 (OH)D3. At weaning, a total of 80 pigs each from CON and TRT sows were allocated to weaning and growing-finishing basal diets fortified with 2,500 and 1,750 IU/kg vitamin D3 respectively and supplemented without or with 50 ㎍/kg 25(OH)D3. Results: Sows fed 25(OH)D3-supplemented diets improved pre-weaning growth rate of nursing piglets. A significant sow and pig weaning diet effect was observed for growth rate and feed efficiency (p<0.05) during days 1 to 42 post-weaning. Pigs consuming 25(OH)D3-supplemented diets gained weight faster (p = 0.016), ate more (p = 0.044) and tended to convert feed to gain more efficiently (p = 0.088) than those fed CON diet between days 98 and 140 post-weaning. Supplemental 25(OH)D3 improved water holding capacity and reduced drip loss of pork meat, increased serum 25(OH)D3 level, produced higher interleukin-1 and lower interleukin-6 concentrations in blood circulation, downregulated myostatin (MSTN) and upregulated myogenic differentiation (MYOD) and myogenic factor 5 (MYF5) gene expressions (p<0.05). Conclusion: Supplementing vitamin D3-fortified sow and wean-finish pig diets with 50 ㎍/kg 25(OH)D3 significantly improved production performance suggesting their current dietary vitamin D3 levels are insufficient. In fulfilling the total need for vitamin D, it is strongly recommended to add 50 ㎍/kg 25(OH)D3 "on top" to practical vitamin D3-fortified sow and wean-finish pig diets deployed under commercial conditions.

Ship-floating object accidents can lead not only to a delay in ship's operations, but also to large scale casualties. Hence, preventive measures are required to avoid them. This study analyzed the spatiotemporal aspects of such collisions based on the data on ship-floating object accidents in sea areas in the last five years, including the collisions in South Korea's territorial seas and exclusive economic zones. We also provide basic data for related research fields. To understand the distribution of the relative density of accidents involving floating objects, the sea area under analysis was visualized as a grid and a two-dimensional histogram was generated. A multinomial logistic regression model was used to analyze the effect of variables such as time of day and season on the collisions. The spatial analysis revealed that the collision density was highest for the areas extending from Geoje Island to Tongyeong, including Jinhae Bay, and that it was high near Jeongok Port in the West Sea and the northern part of Jeju Island. The temporal analysis revealed that the collisions occurred most frequently during the day (71.4%) and in autumn. Furthermore, the likelihood of collision with floating objects was much higher for professional fishing vessels, leisure vessels, and recreational fishing vessels than for cargo vessels during the day and in autumn. The results of this analysis can be used as primary data for the arrangement of Coast Guard vessels, rigid enforcement of regulations, removal of floating objects, and preparation of countermeasures involving preliminary removal of floating objects to prevent accidents by time and season.
This study aimed to investigate the effect of subjective factors (figure recognition and stress) and objective factors (blood biochemical parameters) on body mass index by gender difference in Korean adults. This study analyzed 3,343 subjects older than 20 years according to gender using the Sixth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey database. Specifically, male subjects had higher body mass index than female subjects (p < .001) and were more frequent in the obese group. Female subjects had higher stress and platelet score than male subjects (p < .001). Male subjects had significantly higher white blood cell counts (p < .001). The factors affecting the occurrence of obesity by gender difference was highly associated with subjective figure recognition (95% CI = 0.026~0.045, p < .001), stress (95% CI = 0.487~0.925, p = .015) and white blood count (95% CI = 1.232~1.392, p < .001) in females. These findings demonstrate a gender-specific difference in recognizing subjective factors and especially the objective factors of white blood cells and platelets affecting obesity. These results can be used for obesity education or fundamental data for establishing a nursing arrangement program for Korean adults.

In order to use the LED video wall in the broadcasting studio, there are a few things to be aware of. First, since the pixels are closely arranged, a moire phenomenon may occur due to a short arrangement period, and second, the distance between pixels (pixel pitch) may be recorded on the image sensor of the broadcasting camera. When moire occurs or pixel pitch is observed, viewers feel uncomfortable. Moire effect can be reduced by adjusting the shooting distance or angle of the camera, but in order to prevent the pixel pitch from being recorded on the image sensor, secure a sufficient distance between the LED video wall and camera. even when the distance secured, the zoom lens used in the broadcasting studio must be operated by appropriately changing the magnification. If the focal length is changed by changing the magnification to obtain a desired angle of view, the pixel pitch may be unintentionally recorded. In this study we propose the range that the pixel pitch is not observed while changing the magnification ratio of the zoom lens when the distance from the video wall is sufficiently secured.
